    Hey, did the camera tells you the battery level or its stays on 100% and switches off immediately when the batteries die?

      @SMBYopinion  9 месяцев назад +1

      You mean is the grip affecting the display for battery level? Nope it shows the battery level perfectly fine for me. Although I am using oem batteries though so maybe that’s affecting it?

      @@SMBYopinion thanks for the reply. I'm also using OEM batteries and think of getting third party grip rather than spending so much money on oem canon grip.

    Did you try to use the grip with a LP-NH, the older model batteries?
    What was the brand of that grip?

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  6 месяцев назад

      Sure did! Works perfectly fine. This one was from DSTE but I’m sure all of these are just generic knock offs rebranded. The should all be the same if not similar

    My first battery grip was purchased in 2012 for my 6D. I finally got a mint used Canon brand grip in 2021 on eBay for like $50. Had no issues.

    Glad you found one that works.. I prefer to get the OEM grip if they have one.. you can usually find a great conditioned USED grip for about 1/3 - 1/2 off OEM full price and you get the real deal.. for cameras with NO OEM grep support, I say go for it.. I have one for my Sony A6400 cameras that works great.. I did find a like NEW OEM R5/R6 grip (BG-R10) for $225 used in like new condition!

    Is this the same as the Neewer branded unit? I had the Canon OEM grip for my R6 but couldn't justify keeping it given it's obscene price - I sold it for what I bought it for as the demand was so high. At this price point I'd consider getting the aftermarket unit. I haven noticed the OEM grips have come down to around $250 since there's competition now.

      Hey Jeff, the one I have is from DTSE, but tbh I’m sure they were all manufactured in the same Chinese factory and rebranded. I looked at photos of the Neewer and it looks identical.
      Yeah the OEM is getting lower which is nice.
      One thing I also noticed with the 3rd party is the joystick directions aren’t as distinct as the oem. Up sometimes goes to the right, left sometimes click in Center for example. Not faulty, just not as polished.

    Hi there! Buying an R6 soon and looking into accessories. Do you know if a SmallRig camera cage made for the Canon BG-R10 would also fit into this third party one? Thanks for the help and input on the 3rd party grip

    • @SMBYopinion

      Hey Mike! Unfortunately I don’t have the cage to try so I can’t say for sure but the grip is molded very similarly to the official canon one so there is a chance it’ll work

    I like my camera to have some "heft" to work against for reducing shake. So, I shoot with a grip. When I purchased my 5D3 over 12 years ago I purchased a favorably reviewed 3rd party grip for it. That lasted maybe 18 months. I'm a slow learner, so I read about the 3rd party grip that was at that time everyone's favorite. A couple of years went by and it too had failed. Still, I wanted another grip. Finally, coming to my senses, I bought the Canon grip. It felt better, but not impressively so. The battery holder was certainly nothing that would inspire confidence. Over the lifespan of the grip it never glitched, failed to fire, failed to generate focus or anything else. Last month, after using the camera for 12 years and the Canon grip for over 8, I replaced both with a new R5 and BG-R10. I did not, even for a moment consider a 3rd party grip. That said, my story is old news and the newer 3rd party grips have probably improved. They just aren't for me.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. No doubt the originals are going to be better and most likely more durable! If you can, oems are a better option

    My first camera 7D had an aftermarket grip. Liked it. My 6dmk2 I spent on the real one. OMG, what a difference. Now that I picked up an R5C I’m thinking let me go aftermarket but I’m starting to lean towards “let’s just get the real thing”. I mean I spent $5k on a camera, maybe I shouldn’t cheap out on the grip. The reasoning? I had an aftermarket battery blow up my 7D, maybe it was the grip but I doubt it. Ever since, just using the real stuff. But $360 is a hard pill to swallow on such an item.

      Yikes! That’s horrible it blew up. Might be the battery’s issue and not the grip though. I’ve heard a few horror stories of that happening before too, usually during charging. For sure, if you can get the real deal, might as well. Or alternatively, Amazon sells the 3rd party ones now so maybe get one and give it a try first?

    Would be nice to do a re-review after a year of usage?

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  16 дней назад

      Thanks for the suggestion! It’s been working great as per usual, so not much to update as of right now. I’ve started using it on an r6 mark ii as well and it works perfectly fine. So far so good!

      @@SMBYopinion I've bought mine a week ago, so this is good to hear. Your review is spot on. It feels a bit different, the buttons are not as 'premium', but for the price it's actually amazing (I payed EUR 60,-)

    Does this work with r6mk2?

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  9 месяцев назад

      I don’t have a mk2 to try but I believe it can since the mk2 uses the same battery grip model. Not 100% though
