    Great content guys. This is what I hope we all want to see. No rolex market predictions, no talk on other RUclipsrs, no shameless self promotion. Also ‘funny’ to see Balasz after hearing him dozens of times on the podcast for Fratello. On the job interview agree with going vintage. Stylish and still humble. Some great suggestions on that earlier in the video.

    Watch for a job interview: Seiko / Citizen / Orient.

  • @croco1968

    You CANNOT wear a Rolex to your first interview for a mid-level job (meaning even if you are getting out of a good business school, your first job will be mid-level at best, even if you enter a big consulting firm or a big bank). It's just too visible a watch. Better to wear a vintage Omega Seamaster or a vintage Calatrava, which will be far more understated. Don't get me wrong, a Rolex Datejust is a fantastic watch but some interviewers will view it as a sign of arrogance, especially when it's still tough to get one at retail.

    Best watch for a job interview has got to be a yellow gold Rolex President Day-Date. Say to the interviewer "this watch costs more than what you make in year!"

    Excellent episode. My underrated Omega would be the Constellation Globemaster. Here in the United States, the Constellation is really never mentioned. I rarely see individuals wearing a Constellation. The Constellation is an excellent timepiece.

    Totally disagree with the Submariner being the worst dive watch. Agree most people buy them for investments or posing. I bought my bi metal 16613 with blue dial in late 1988 and I wore it every day for 25 years. I only stopped wearing daily after people started being mugged for them. I wore it free diving, swimming, surfing, wind surfing, jet skiing, sailing, running, in triathlons, cycling, rock climbing, gliding, karting and on superbikes. It's survived several car and bike crashes. I've had it serviced twice in 35 years, and it still looks pretty much perfect today, and is worth 4 times what I paid for it new! Is the only watch I will never sell. It isn't the best dive watch, that's the sea-dweller 4000 in my opinion.

      You are definitely in the minority. I have spoken to countless Sub owners who confess to their fears of getting their Sub wet. Yes, not even swim with it, in a waddling pool. They were simply unable to reconcile the fact that the Sub (or most sports / dive watches) are more water-resistant than their wearers.

    • @SeniorChaChaCha
      @SeniorChaChaCha 6 месяцев назад +3

      The Submariner took the dive out of dive watch the moment they went with ceramic inserts and became a watch of pretenders and not achievers.

    • @waterfordrs22
      @waterfordrs22 6 месяцев назад +2

      A 35 year old Sub is from a different time and place. The ashes of the quartz crisis were still smoldering, Rolex had only begun to reinvent their identity. It’s simply not comparable to how Rolex positions the watch today.
      The guy was asked what the worst diver is, they could have asked for the least likely to be used as a diver or most reflective of hubris and that would have been a better targeted question.

    • @athit673
      @athit673 6 месяцев назад

      Submariner is a copycat design from US Navy. It's name is copied from Brook & sons watch. It's movement is made by Jean Aegler. Bracelet is made by gay frères. & In 1958, Rolex submariner was tested to it's claim of 100m but actually their model isn't even close to 30m & been officially removed from list. Where the hell is even close to iconic ?? Rolex name is on the dial that's it. It's a most disgusting watch in the entire world. 🤮

    I guess my job interview-watch would be a Seiko Cocktail time (not sure which one though, as I just started deep diving into the world), I’d say it’s attractive, reliable and modest.

  • @thegorn

    Best handset I agree is the Omega broad arrow with the arrow on the hour hand, and not the arrow on the minute hand (like on the Aqua Terra). After that I'd give it to the Grand Seiko dauphine handset.

    I am tired of listening about dive watches and diving. This design might have started with that in mind but it has been appreciated and evolved as the most practical one for an everyday watch for most people with all its merits.

    I've said submariner out loud as soon I've heard the question 😂 And I love Rolex. Design wise I could go with Legend Diver, weak lume and internal bezel that requires crown to be unscrewed underwater to set it or change. Love that watch too.

    • @verynormalman

      Is the Submariner a dive watch? I thought it was now just jewellery? In the UK, it's totally a working class, tradesman's piece now. I don't know any educated people who own one now. And it's a bit anachronistic. Especially when a guy comes into a bar, wearing a jacket with super short sleeves, so he can flash his dangly Sub. It's just ridiculous. Just spend a bit more money, and get a proper watch. The game has moved on.

    As prophesied in the video, loads of triggered Sub owners jumping to the defense of the Sub by sharing their personal anecdotes about using the Sub in water.
    I, however, have heard countless Sub owners spoke about their fears of using their Subs in water (not even in a waddling pool). 😂

  • @thegraciefighter102
    @thegraciefighter102 6 месяцев назад

    I think objectively speaking the seamaster 300 is the worst dive watch simply because the features are unworkable- the scallop bezel was always too hard to work and the HEV is simply poor engineering. It’s a watch where style / design is favoured over function
    However it’s a a super popular watch and like the submariner shows what people are actually seeking in their dive watch

    Before we throw stones at Panerai, Submersible 300m, bezel action is among the best. Not all Panerai’s are created equal, you wouldn’t compare a Rolex Cellini to a Submariner.

    Very wrong on the sub topic. How the watch is used, has nothing to do with how good it is. But more importantly, almost ALL of modern diving is done with dive computers (I use a Shearwater) at this point, so no mechanical watch is really used for diving (maybe as a backup). You can maybe say the Submariner is common or boring, but it is a very reliable and comfortable watch, it excels in it's class.

    If I was interviewing somebody wearing a Rolex, Id think that the person didn’t need a job as he can afford to live without a job if he can afford a Rolex. Impressions matter and some people can over do it as much as looking slovenly at a job interview. Ive been an employer and it has to be horses for courses. Blue collar jobs require appropriate wear as much as white collar jobs! By the way, Submariners have got to be too overpriced for diving and most cash strapped dive enthusiasts/professionals. Something more rugged and far less expensive would be a better option. Most Seiko Prospex models fit the bill quite adequately.

    • @davidr2802
      @davidr2802 6 месяцев назад

      You sound like you are only interested in interviewing people who you think need your job so badly that they need to come across as impoverished. I am guessing you are a manager of a Micky D's. Me, I like to interview and hire already successful people and I am not shallow enough to make judgements simply based on their horological jewelry.

  • @thegorn
    @thegorn 6 месяцев назад

    As for the Submariner - if you want a good dive watch, you don't put a greyish platinum in the bezel - you put bright white, and even lumed white. But it's all for show and desk diving aesthetics - not for diving - we all know that. But there's no question that sub owners on the whole are the biggest douchebags in the watch world.
