- Collectors Among Us is an ongoing series featuring some of our favorite watch collectors - and friends. In addition to finding out what makes their watch collection tick, we better understand their collecting philosophy as a whole, as well as uncover their other interests and how they intersect the world of horology. We all have a story that encapsulates our collecting journey - this one belongs to Brian Fisher.
A teacher with a Daytona??? Dude is living right.
only one life to live, enjoy it!
That is the not whole picture, obviously. Academia hardly make 6 figures, even at an advanced level
🏆💯
Or just a nepo baby. No teacher can afford a Daytona much less that collection. Years of trading music gear maybe helped but I just don’t buy that this guy was into Submariners as a kid without the surrounding wealth to make that dream seem reasonable.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd much prefer these videos without the background muzak. There's no need for it, and I'm here for the conversation, not muzak.
It’s heavily distracting! Can’t do it!
Agreed
Made it through. Good content. Please lose the music in the future.
Omg the background track has got to go. Take that out and re-upload
It’s actually hilarious if you just lean into it. I laughed out loud several times.
These collector/collection videos are great, please do more.
Thanks for the feedback! The next video in our Collector's Among Us series is coming soon. Stay tuned ;)
Having nothing in mind and having something show up. Love it. Great chat
More coming soon!
My first time watching and what a way to start. Amazing video and great insight from Brian!
So glad this came up on my feed! Great content. Keep em coming!
I wanted to see the other watches !
We are cut from the same cloth...guitars, vinyl, watches (also hot rods...all moneypits). I'm not wealthy, and ironically most of my collection came while in or just after college. Irresponsible decisions, for sure. But I would do it all over again. Thanks for this!
Great interview.
This guy reminds me of myself.
I used to collect Premier drum kits and cymbals. When my girlfriend moved in with me I had to start selling the kits that were stacked all around the house. I bought my first watch, a navitimer over twenty years ago. So from drums to watches seemed a natural progression. I still have my Premier red sparkle bop kit which is set up in our bedroom in the bay window. My girlfriend has given up on asking me to sell it. I sold a 50s Zildjain Istanbul K crash/ ride that helped out with my last call from the AD. I have a few vintage snares and k,s left in the bank and then my watch collecting will grind to a halt.
X
Great video, fantastic collection and perfect collecting philosophy! Cheers!
Nice Mcintosh integrated system & JMM specs
Plus 2 on the JMM spec, are those the molino in noir 9? Perhaps the molino 55?
This is one of the best watch/timepiece videos I’ve ever seen! Great job!
My wife is a teacher. I can’t imaging what percentage of your income is spent on watches. You are nuts my man. 👍
Teachers can still have multiple sources of income and investments.
That's one of the great collections I've seen.
Wow, a watch collector and jazz fan blue note, have you any prestige LPs. Top man.
Awesome video!!! I’m a teacher and watch collector as well. This completely resonates with me. Especially the part with the aluminum bottles, 😂
What watch does the host have?? Love that gold/back combo.
Dude looks good for 50 years old. He looks like he's in his late 30s early 40s
Teachers must get paid a lot these days. LOL...All kidding aside... a nice collection.
Yep. There is a major teacher shortage right now. We want good people teaching and to be paid well. It’s a hard job.
@@ALLinHerMovements, it's all relative. Depends on where you live and what you consider "paid well." It is a hard job, and obviously, you want the best, but what is reasonable and pays well to someone is different to another? Also, you can hire someone who is the best, but that doesn't always mean you will get the best result, either. I have seen school districts, throw thousands, even millions of dollars, hire well and buy better equipment and resources, and yet they still underperform. So, that's not always the answer.
@@MichaelChapman-i8v Surely there are complex reasons why school districts “fail” or underperform but the answers solving those problems have nothing to do with what teachers can afford. I was reacting to the general issue that teacher salaries are low relative to what they actually contribute to society. I know your comment was in jest but there are definitely people who think that teachers shouldn’t be able to afford luxury items.
@@ALLinHerMovements , Yes, agreed. My original comment was obviously made in jest. However, to clarify, you are absolutely correct. Teachers should be able to afford luxury items. However, that may also lead to another debate amongst people as to whether "luxury" should be attainable by all, otherwise, does that still make it "luxury." That's a conversation/debate for another day and another forum perhaps.
Love this series!!!!
Amazing GMT with an amazing story 😮😊❤ Wonderfull.
Cool collection. The interviewer looked uninterested the entire time tho.
Either he comes from a wealthy family or properly invested in something. Because to be a NYC school teacher and have this type of watch collection on a teachers salary. Let's not even mention the McIntosh receivers and etc he has in that nice BK apt.
Nice diversified collection of blue chips 👍
this is the most inspiring video for me...easily
I love it! But for God's sake, turn down the music in the background!
wow sick. must be good karma. that 5513 shot looked really good at first I thought it was a Sea Dweller 16600
After a 2 bachelor's, a masters in education, and years of teaching everything from high school to university, I never once made over 40k. I had to switch careers altogether to just survive nevermind the watches. What district is this guy teaching in?
He says in the end that he bought the watches by selling off his guitar collection.
@@shaheerrahman87 right but still had to have the money to buy the guitars in the first place.
He’s in Brooklyn. But he could be working in a private school where salaries might be better.
@@robertkerner4833 perhaps.
No wife . No kids. 60-80k can do wonders.
He's the private teacher of Rhianna's kids for this to even be real
Guy apparently had two watches for twenty years and then recently got into six figures of collectible Rolexes. Maybe in addition to selling a few guitars he inherited a lot of money or married well.🤔 Fun guy to have a beer with I bet.
"I'm an English teacher for 26 years"???
No Rolex’s I’m guessing
Is that Datejust crystal original, without a cyclops? That's my dream...
As a man who's wife looks like a 5'6" Peter Dinklage with Raymon Milnarik's hairline, I really like Brian's honesty and his insight into the fascinating world of 'collecting'
😆
And I just want one Rolex.
I like his ethos. Interesting interview. BTW what are you wearing? Is it a bronze Glycine?
What’s this man do? Brian
Shouldnt a 1970 1675 have a mk1 long e dial? Or did he mean a 70’s 1675. Nevertheless, great video and an even better collection! Cheers guys
Dude either made a lot of money flipping guitars or musical equipment, wife or family has money/inheritance, or has some type of tenure and makes $$ bc the math aint mathing
Pocket watching is crazy
@@jamescolin7085 dont know what that is
They went over the more boring watches he had on the table, not the interesting ones.....
Would be so much better without the annoying music.
Nice to see an every day watch collector rather than the Hodinkee celebrity nonsense- here’s mud in your eye Ed Sheeran and John Mayor
More of these coming soon!
How is this guy a teacher and can afford luxury watches? Something's not right.
Wonder what his daddy does for work lmao no teacher can afford any of this in a lifetime living in Brooklyn.
The intro music is mixed way too high. It's obnoxious.
So annoying that Rolex allocate so much watches to the US, the only country where u can still pull that Daytona allocation stunt. South east Asia u have to bundle like hell, Australia and NZ u have to have >100k $ purchase history.
his case is a unicorn I believe
Brilliant conversation...please turn off the backing track !
Would love to see his guitars, stereo, and record collection
Complete the rolex catalog…Good investment
Decent but we need to see all those dials!
i feel so seen :) lol
