      Hi Shirley 😍💐 I have to say that, I had already given up on my tenuifolia to ever bloom. I was suspect about it all these years, mislabelling being a big possibility etc etc. So, to get it to do this, this year, after last year I got a single bloom and settled for not having a vigorous bloomer... this makes me happy and has elevated the orchid to another level in my collection and opinion 😅 thank YOU so much for watching, Shirley! I hope that your other one comes around and starts to perform as well 👍🏼 have yourself a wonderful Monday, lovely lady 🌸

      Hi Issie 😍💐 finally!!! Finally I do not just have a decorative grassy orchid in a pot as a centre piece for my patio table!! Goodness me, its about time too! 😆 there is a comment from Rian Milit 👇🏼 which is super interesting and gave me a 'click' moment. I have been searching for information on different tenuifolia varieties on the net, seeing them growing in the wild, and I see something similar to mine on tree branches. I never found the answer that I was looking for on the google, but Rian confirmed that there are 4 different varieties. So... there is more than one tenuifolia variety around and so far, they have not been given 'variety' names ... watch this space! 😄 thank you so much for watching, and for joining in, Issie!! @@NinjaOrchids brilliant job by Rian! Thanks for the signposting, what a nugget of gold indeed that there are four types. I was offered two kinds when I purchased mine, and that might have been when I was told the large bulb variety that I didn't buy was a 4n, and the one I had chosen was difficult to flower. When the nursery tells you it is difficult to flower an orchid I should have taken the hint 😅 thank you so much and have a great day Nina!

      HI! 😍💐 I have had to catch up on a lot of filming today, that I could not get done yesterday, so I have not been around to watch videos, but... I will! The latin or greek roots of the names these discoverers came up with have always been a source of great interest to me, and I really wish that there would be some more details of the reasons out there. Especially some hybrids for example... why did someone choose the name xyz, it always fascinates me, so, there you go... you and me both 😃 Thank YOU so much for taking the time to join in! I've actually spoke to a grower in Japan, and he described 4 type for me, that are common in the trade (so not recognized varieties). The wild type, that I have, grows oval, flattened, small pbulb, compact gworing, with lots of foliage. It's not really flowering for me, and my understanding from him was that it is harder to bloom, the flowers are fewer in number and much smaller that the other types.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 года назад +5

      Rian! 🤩💐HI! so good to see you again and boom! you drop a comment that is a nugget of intel that I have been looking high and low for! Every image that I see of the tenuifolia growing in the wild resembles mine, and then there are the larger more longish rhizome varieties, so yes... my confusion and 'apprehension' of having a mislabelled one, for 3 years were for real. Only one bloom last year, well... not exactly tenuifolia style. But, the images in the wild, showing the variety that I have... just kept me 'going' with this one. Now your comment confirms what I could see, but not actually source in an article! I recently received a maxillaria, which could be the tenuifolia you describe, smaller, more oval and flatter pseudobulbs but with the foliage ridiculously long in proportion to the bulbs... I am so glad and thankful that you wrote this comment, for more reasons than one, but this helps me understand that the other one I received is also a tenuifolia (well, nothing is 100% until it blooms, but... 😉) once again, thank you for your comment! Very very helpful 👍🏼 and thank you for watching, Rian 🌸

      FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good morning, meine liebe Freundin! It may happen, but this one grows slower. I got this one way before Cousin Itt, and even though I see the pic of this one on arrival and it has definitely grown really big, Cousin Itt is just insane! He looks a little like Rod Steward at the moment, with his new growths all spiky 😆 I LOVE everything coconut! The smell, the flavor....anything and everything coconut, I am all over it! Just if someone is to heavy handed on the sunlotion while I am trying to eat at the beach, that is where I draw a line! I don't want coconut in my nose while eating something that is NOT coconut 😬 oh... chocolate! I am a chocolate fiend! But... I have learned that if I do not have it in the house, then I don't need it, or want it. I do have chocolate milk always in the fridge for a fix though. I make it with dehydrated milk, coco powder, sweatener, vanilla essence and cinnamon so that is always in stock. I don't buy chocolate milk off the shelf because it just tastes meh, but with my little brew, I am happy! Sometimes I add oats just to have a little sustenance, but chocolate does not last long here at all! 🤪 really appreciate you watching, amiga! I have a SUNday, but the wind is very very strong, so... my filming will be chasing calm pockets around my patio. I cannot go another day without filming what I had planned yesterday, so, we shall see what comes of it! I have to.... 🤞🏼 you have yourself a beautiful sunny day, vecina favorita!! Much love ❤️🌸

      Hi Karin 🤩💐 patience and light, yes. But I had all but given up on this one ever blooming and last year, I almost popped the single bud off because I was moving the pot from one location to the other, and did not see it until just before I grabbed the pot. I had settled to it being a nice winter centre piece for my patio table, and left it at that. As it does not need to be inside, I honestly did not get frustrated about it after 2 years. I was a bit cross when I received it back in 2018 because I had never seen a tenuifolia with such tiny bulbs. It was blooming size back then... yeah right! 🤪 Maxillariella.... what on earth? Someone playing games 🤦🏼‍♀️ I took the variabilis as an example for the tenuifolia, but lesson learned, they don't compare at all when it comes to vigor and blooming happily. This one took 4 years to get to this point, but I am so glad that it is what I bought at the end of the day, and... the fact that it is more compact just turned out to be an unexpected plus! When I bought my first one a couple for weeks ago, the vendor told me they can take 48 months to rebloom. I'd be happy just to see it grow vegetatively until then.
    Some of the blooms are starting to fade and the fragrance isn't as strong recently.
    I'm planning on repotting it in a mix of small/medium bark, coconut coir/husk, and a little sphagnum moss. Not sure if I'll use a clear pot with or without ventilation. I guess it will depend of what is left of the root system.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  5 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Joe 😍💐 as you saw in the video, how small mine was, I was not even sure I had a tenuifolia 🤣 I hope that you have the one that has bigger pseudobulbs, with a longer rhizomes. They grow faster and are quicker out of the gates to bloom again. This more compact variety, with pseudobulbs the size of walnuts, as opposed to plumbs, is a very slow grower. Fate would have it such that I got this one, and I am so thankful for that, because even though it lives outside all year round, if I had a larger one I would struggle for space 😅 I hope to get a nice blooming this year, seeing as last year it was a little scattered and not that abundant. LOVE the fragrance, and I am glad that you at least had the opportunity to experience it. I am going to keep my fingers crossed that you prove the vendor wrong and your's will bloom for you next season 😊 if the root system in the pot is a little tired, then make sure you have high humidity for it until it can grow roots from the upright rhizomes into the media again. This way they will be encouraged to grow faster, even though you may not actually see them 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Joe! I hope you are having a wonderful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      Yes, I am new to your channel and enjoy it very much. Thank you for your answer. Costa del Sol was one of our favorite places for spending some weekends. Yes, Sanlucar was “an other world”! For the first year we were there, we were the only Americans there and our utility bills were addressed to “los Americanos” and the road between Sanlucar and Chipiona was so bad, we used to compare it to the craters on the moon. Wonderful memories. Although my husband was working hard, but since we ended there shortly after our mariage, we always said we had a 4 year honeymoon😍

Still, to this day, there are pockets of areas that can work along those lines and the mail still arrives 😬 fantastic having you here, you can relate 👍🏼👍🏼 I took trips to the Atlantic for the weekend and you did the opposite 😆 thank you so much for your kind comment!

I think there has to be two different forms because you're not the only one with the bulbs laying more on top of each other than having a lengthy rhizome between bulbs. Of course, it is a plant that will never find itself in my collection because coconut.

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! Oh.... that's right, you are not into coconut stuff! Me? Anything coconut goes, just love the stuff! In Dubai you could buy whole coconuts and hand it to the person over the counter and they would shred it in a machine for you. Bingo, freshly shredded coconut 👍🏼 I miss that here! I can buy them, but good luck getting it shredded. I hardly featured my tenuifolia because it was mainly a grassy centre piece for my patio table during the winter. Until now! 4 years later? Well, last year I saw a bloom for the first time and could positively ID it, but, that bloom was nothing to write home about. It did not have the vibrancy of the ones this year. I was a bit disappointed last year, thinking that this variety would be more on the orange side. So glad that it has progressed to proper reds and oranges 👍🏼 Still, Cousin Itt will rule supreme, because the tenuifolia came into my collection before Cousin Itt and well, we know how that is progressing! Got the Rod Steward look now 😆 really appreciate you watching, Michael, thank you! Wishing you a fabulous Sunday 😍❤️💐

      @@NinjaOrchids I will just never understand how anyone can consume coconut (or onions or anything involving cream cheese).
      Well, after getting no rain for ten days, we got a weeks worth of rain yesterday. The new dog is not a fan of thunder, she bolted under the bed at the first rumble. She doesn't seem to mind water though. I took her to the dog park this morning, which was half flooded. She went squirreling, gleefully running through the muddy water. Had a hell of a tie wrangling her to come home.

      Haha... I totally got it wrong from your profile picture. I thought that it would be your favorite orchid. Is it a max tenuifolia? I might just be really bad at recognizing that orchid...hehe! (amateur me) 😂
