    Hi Maria, I bought a tenuifolia at the orchid show here in Merritt Island this past May and it was a little compact but the seller told me not to repot..( don't know why)but it started looking distressed, so I took it out of the pot and I found 2 of the pseudobulbs had started to blacken from the bottom so I took it all apart cut out the bad ones, dipped the rest in the physan solution and repotted in a bigger clay pot.Thanx to your wonderful, informative vid. I might have just saved my new Tenui...Thanx for all you do.

    Bought one at a orchid nursery you sugested in Kissimmee a year and a half ago and it was growing beautiful. Early last year it froze with our 1 freak day of 26 of 28 in sheltered area. Lost a couple of others and some exotic palms with that one. Have to look for another one and hope yours recovers great. Will

      Willo Perez I am sorry to hear that and yes I have lost countless of orchids over the years due to our extreme rainy season or our frosty short winters, but still frosty none the less. I've learned that it is a great investment to either build or purchase some form of structure that can protect them....it will save a whole lot of frustration and money in the long run. Thank you for your well wishing and I am keeping my fingers crossed. :)

    Thanks for posting this. I have one Maxilariella tenuifolia that I have had for about a year. It's my only one so I didn't know that the brown stems were not normal. It turns out mine has whatever yours has also. Mine was smallish so I have only a few PBs left :( I hope they will make it.

      @PictureMaria1  5 лет назад

      reptilegrrl Thank you for watching and II am so sorry to hear about your sick maxillaria...I am hoping that you were able to catch the infection in time. Be patient with it as it can take a while for it to bounce back and start creating more psuedo bulbs. I am hoping for a full recovery with it. Keep me posted and I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

    • @reptilegrrl
      @reptilegrrl 5 лет назад +1

      @@PictureMaria1 thank you! I have only 4 tiny PBs left without infection, so I am not totally optimistic. But you know, I've had my eye on the 4N M. tenuifolias at Norman's :) So this might be a good excuse to use my AOS membership gift card :) There's always a bright side!

  • @michaelmccarthy4077
    @michaelmccarthy4077 5 лет назад +2

    the brown rot is nasty stuff. I think you got lucky with the Maxillaria in that it was already somewhat naturally divided so the infection didn't spread through the whole plant. Spring is here, it should recover well.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  5 лет назад

      Michael McCarthy Yes indeed.. you can say that again!!! I am hoping that I got to it in rough time and that the warmer weather and the added supplement will really work wonders with it. I would be heartbroken if I lost it...I mean after all that we've been through...I need her to survive!

      @PictureMaria1  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you...I am super thrilled at how they turned out...they almost seemed as though they were made for orchids. I am also hoping that this causes her to really excel and throw off an unusual amount of new growths! That would be awesome! ...and yes it is amazing how the little blooms pack so much fragrant power in their blooms! That is what makes them so spectacular! I know that I had a little bit of an issue with this orchid blooming at first...but when I started giving her vanda type lighting she began to bloom like crazy...so you may want to up the light to see if you can get them to bloom better. It's worth the try, if you aren't already doing it...also I have started using my homemade seaweed and aloe vera water for my garden and orchids and I am getting incredible results...that may be something you can look into as well. I am wishing you a very happy and abundant blooming season! HAPPY GROWING!

    That display in the bird cage is precious! I watched the next in the series on this and saw how beautiful it turned out!!! I have a max that's in a 12" basket that I need to repot and I'd love to trim some off and do this but those pretty little cages would rust away here in Atlantic Beach northeast of you. But, gosh! So pretty! I guess I'll just keep mine all one HUGE plant.
    I should send you a picture of my yellow bird that I'm getting ready to break up. It's in a 5 gallon pot and put out (?) 30 blooms. I know that's not many, but the roots and plants are going crazy. I put it in that huge pot last repot hoping never to have to up-pot it again. She told me she had other intentions!!! Thank you and the birdcages do make wonderful and unique display containers. I’ve seen the heavy duty wrought iron bird cages that may help with the rusting away if you need something more durable. And yes brassavola types can get quite massive! I am glad to hear that it is doing so well for you!!! Perhaps you can take a picture and post it to my Instagram @MyOrchidAdventures

      Crut Crut I am currently using all organic homemade fertilizers/supplements but you can use any well balanced fertilizers made for orchids and either fertilize weakly weekly or fertilize about once a month. Whatever method works for you.

      @@PictureMaria1 Oh ok thank you for this info. I just bought this MT orchid, only 1 bulb is quite fat. The rest are thin ones showing no black fungus presence though. The seller mounted them on a pot of soil. The earth soil is mixed of anything with porous passage under it. On middays, sunlight passes by for 3 hours or so. Weak fertilizer is also what I have in mind.
