It's like an open D or open A tuning. That's how Johnny and goo goo dolls play all of their songs. I warn you though, the tuning puts alot of stress on your strings, so if you wish to play the way they play, have a new pair of string ready by your side!
Like already said....Extremely underrated. My opinion best singer/songwriter. Very very few! Even comparable or even have the test of time and song ability and if I'm not mistaken 30ish years in the making. Mic drop...
I love playing this song. All the tunings for there songs are such a beautiful sound alone. Sometimes I play slide in E 440. One of the best band's ever.

Always liked their music in the 90's and early 2000's but never really considered them a favorite band by any means. Still transitioning from the Nirvana era and idolizing Cobain. Fast forward to my 40's and seeing the GGD's live in 2023 and I have a new found admiration for their lyrics and raw talent. Probably my favorite band now after 20 years of them just being average to me. I could be wrong but I got a sense from John's stage presence that he's a pretty down to earth guy. Robby is quite the machine himself from the original line up. Listen almost daily now vs only when they get radio play. It's kinda a blessing at a time I miss the 90's to rediscover something I didn't fully discover in the 90's.

Awesome job. For those asking, both official guitar books list the original song's tuning as (from low to high) D#,A# D# G# D# D#. He may have dropped it down a half step as some have mentioned for this one. Try the above. Sounds great.
