am glad that you give this extremely exceptional Nordic group a chance. I tell you a little about its history. The group, which are two boys and one girl, have Norwegian, Danish and German nationality and uses instruments such as horns of different animals, drums, human bones, rattles with human ashes, bells, stones, all to go back to the first musical compositions that They were able to interpret 1,000 years ago, in the iron age in northern Europe. All the letters are taken from carved gadgets from the era of the Nordic iron, such as arrowheads, bows, swords, rune stones and recite poems and psalms of war, peace and protection. Whereupon and for this, heilung, which means healing in German, is in close collaboration with archaeologists specializing in the field. The languages used by heilung are several. Among them are Latin, Old Danish, German and English. They were so successful with their first album that they had to release a new live album, which includes 2 new songs. Also a video of that album live and this year they released their second work, futha, which is a much more feminine work. His first album, Ofnir, is much more aggressive and masculine. During the concerts some representations of how these ancient rituals of the iron age could be made. Also just finished the soundtrack of the video game Hellblade 2. I hope this review helps you to understand a bit the context of this musical group. Some curiosities. When they built the drums for the group, one of which is made from horse skin, a doctor drew blood from the three members of the group and painted the drums and some of their clothes with it. The male singer with the deep voice is a great tattoo artist and very professional. The bones the girl plays with are human bones and sometimes they have had problems in the countries of the tour to introduce them through the border from the country where the concert was held. The song's title can be found in the Mesogothic Anglo-Saxon glossary as "In-Maidjan", which means "deceptively change" or "corrupt". This makes sense since the entire story within the album consists of a peaceful village that is corrupted by having to go to war. Therefore, Proto-Germanic seems to be the language. "Harigasti Teiwa" is a clear Germanic reference to the Negau helmet. This helmet contains several inscriptions including the words "harigasti teiwa which are the first words of the song. This could be translated as • Come, guest Tyr", since this line was trying to invoke a God for war. The next chant are the names of the 24 Norse runes of the Elder Futhark. This is also known as runic song. Come, guest Tyr For this invocation I, the Rune Master, servant of Odin, call upon the one of the Sun to aid our army Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo, Hagal, Naudhiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Perthro, Algiz, Sowelu, Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Dagaz, Othala. In English: Wealth, Aurochs, Thorn, Divine Breath, Travel, Torch, Gift, Joy, Hail, Need, Ice, Harvest, Tree, Luck, Elk, Sun, Creator, Birch tree, Horse, Man, Water, Fertility, Day, Home. Odin, prepare for battle! A hug from the old Europe.
Probably the longest comment I've ever read on RUclips in a long time. And love this dude for giving this a chance, shit e even I gave heilung a chance when I'm not. Even into this really.
I’d not call them “boys and girl” personally. Maria and Christopher are also married to each other and Kai is certainly not a boyish looking individual ;)
This song is in some way like a 'ABC'-song - they are chanting the 24 runes of the elder Futhark ᚠ Fehu ᚢ Uruz ᚦ Thurisaz ᚨ Ansuz ᚱ Raido ᚲ Kenaz ᚷ Gebo ᚹ Wunjo ᚺ Hagalaz ᚾ Naudiz ᛁ Isa ᛃ Jera ᛇ Eihwaz ᛈ Perthro ᛉ Algiz ᛊ Sowilo ᛏ Teiwaz ᛒ Berkano ᛖ Ehwaz ᛗ Mannaz ᛚ Laguz ᛜ Ingwaz ᛞ Dagaz ᛟ Othala
I thought I recognised some a pattern here... Back when I was an edgy angsty teen I was into Tarot which turned me on to the Runes... I forgot I had those.
It isn't really an ABC song. If it was the younger futhark sure. The younger futhark is used for writing. This is the elder futhark. These have magical qualities. This is invoking the power of the runes.
You should check out 'Alfadhirhaiti' live by them. Same show and everything. It's really good and kind of pumps you up. It's a song naming all the names of Odin.
This is not a war chant. This is a prayer to Odin (Woten, Wotan, Votan, Ootan, etc). The repetition of the Elder Futhark runes (each round chanted in a single breath) 9 times is a prayer that represents the 9 days Odin spent in the tree of knowledge.
A little context for y'all. They don't call it a "performance" but instead its a "ritual". Pulled security at the Portland show a bit over a year ago, and let me tell you, it was indeed a sacred thing . Told my boss afterwards that I know where we could snag some helms, mail, and shields for the next time they are stateside. He was willing to at least consider it 😎
The algorithm brought me to this channel. Do yourself a favor and watch the entire Lifa show, not for reactions, but for yourself. Heilung doesn't have concerts. They perform healing rituals. Heilung literally means healing.
It's amazing to see that almost everyone has the same reaction. 1) Wtf is this? 2) Calming down, beeing more perceptive, expecting something 3) RIKKA STI TAIVAN!! and people are like "Wow" but they are allready hooked 4) They feel the urge to move, to express, to sing along, without knowing neither lyrics nor the language 5) That spiritual connection you definitly feel if you really listen to this kind of music I once went on a concert of them. There were seats, we all sat down and it started. The Dude beside me was a lot older then me, almost 60ies i guess. At first i was like "oh dear, does he know what he signed up to?" Then it started... At the end, nobody of us were using our seats any more. Everyone was on their feet, dancing, expressing, shouting, screaming, all in harmony with what they played. From that moment on i understood how some men would go into a berserker-rage, because at the end, with the unision i felt with all those people i've never met, i've never talked to... I was ready to go to war with them. And the Dude beside me, despite his age, he was on his feet, dancing, raising his fist, shouting words he didn't understand, looking at me, noding, because i was dancing too. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do it. do yourself a favor and get an experiance you'll never forgett
Despite from the fact that this is a true artistic masterpiece, the production level here is absolutely top notch. And remember: that was the first live performance of Heilung ever !
They chant the names of the runes so it's basically a very badass norse Alphabet song and this song was so good it got taken as a warchant for the game
MissRon you almost giot it :) ..it is the older Futhark (the old germanic alphabet) with 24 runes. The norse alphabet (the Futhark) has 16 runes.... Heilung also made a song about this it´s Norupo ruclips.net/video/64CACoHNBEI/видео.html ....if you want to go deeper into runes look what is behind.
Reciting the runes of the Elder Futhark 9 times (each round in a single breath) is an ancient prayer to Odin (Wotan, Woten, Votan, Ootan, etc), and represents the 9 days he spent in the tree of knowledge.
I find myself listening to their live album Lifa more often than their studio albums because they just sound so phenomenal live. Just can't get enough.
5:18 begins the chant of the Elder Futhark runic alphabet, a series of symbols used as the alphabet of the ancient Norse. Each rune is thought to have great magical properties and they are used in many different kinds of magic by pagans past and present. Loved this reaction, brother. Heilung has the ability to tap into something deep within every person, regardless of background. Mostly because the style of music is so old, it's from a time before we were as different as we are now. EDIT: Your inital Xbox comment was more accurate than you might think. Heilung performs a significant portion of the soundtrack for the upcoming video game "Hellblade: Senua's Saga" and this exact song is used in the game's trailer. I loved that you went back and acknowledged it at the end.
There’s a lot more from the same LIFA live at Castlefest concert. Krigsgaldir Alfadhirhaiti Hamrer Hippyer Also look at Wardruna Start with Aurora+Wardruna with the song Helvegen. Look for the indoor live version. After that just pick official Wardruna videos. Aurora is also a great solo artist. Beautiful singing. Skald with the song Run
My cousin played this on a portable speaker while he drove a golf cart during a paintball war with a bunch of other cousins it was one of the sickest nights of my life.
You should experience the entirety of LIFA from start to finish, that would make for an excellent reaction, plus it is intended that you experience the ceremony from start to finish as it is a journey of war, conflict, trauma, and healing.
Funny you mention Xbox games, this song was actually used for the second hellblade game. They were also on the soundtrack of the first game. That’s how I discovered them 😄
I provide some more information: Harigasti Teiwa Harigasti Teiwa "is a clear Germanic reference to the Negau helmet. This helmet contains several Etruscan alphabet inscriptions that include the words" Harigasti teiwa which are the first words of the song. This could be translated as Harigast (the priest) although it could also mean, the priest of Teiwaz (Tyr). "Harigast" is often (not always) seen as a personal name and that it could be made up of the words "harjaz" (army, troop, warband, war) and gastiz (stranger, guest). The forms "Hari" and "gast" is particularly found in west-germanic. As such the name could mean "war guest" or "foreign army". Tawol Athodu - I accept the invitation. Ek Erilaz - I am a runemaster. The word has been interpreted to mean magician or runemaster. The word is an ablaut variant of count and it is believed that it could be linguistically related to the name of the tribe of the Heruli or Herulos. The Heruli were a Germanic tribe from Scandinavia that was invaded by the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. So it is probably simply an old military title of Germanic provenance. Owlthuthewaz - owlthu (glorious) thewaz (servant). Means servant of the glorious Niwaremariz - Priest of the god "Ullr" / famous, renowned. From the proto-Germanic term Wulþuz (glory) wolþu- is possibly a reference to a God, surely the God Ullr. Saawilagar Hateka - My name is Sawilagaz. Harja - Army - leader of the army; commander; Warrior Wuotani Ruoperath Wuotani - Oh, Wodan! Ruoperath - famous and brilliant. This could be interpreted as the following: I, Priest Harigast. Aaccept the invitation (to battle) I am the Heruli. I am a renowned priest of Ullr. They call me Warrior. Oh, Wodan the famous and brilliant! A hug.
What I truly love about your vid is you actually listening before your input. Many reaction vids the people talk over half of the music. I trust your options to be honest and fully informed.
I had the privilege to see them live in Germany in 2019 - those guys are something else! The energy in that theatre - the air was vibrating! I get goosebumps when i think back.
Krigsgaldr (live version) has a sick drop that you’d probably really like, then. I’d recommend checking that one out next and doing a reaction on. This one really gives a more technical outlook and evaluation of Maria’s vocal range and ability.
I love seeing new people get into Heilung, no matter what background or ethnicity you're from, you can feel the mystical and intriguing nature of Norse culture brought to life by this band. Phenomenal.
Everyone I have showed this band to has had a similar reaction of just digging the shit out of it, I think it hearkens to something ancient in all humans.
Man, I absolutely love them. It's the sort of music that refines with time. Still, I hope that they have another album in the works! There's almost no end to what you can do with this genre.
It's a recitation of the Futhark (Runic alphabet with esoteric meaning behind each letter) It's meant to be a meditative repetition to aid in inducing a trance state. The Hamrer Hippyer is a Healing charm. For a real bone chiller listen to Schlammschlacht; the German version of the Destruction of Varus and his Legions.
Its just nice to see that the ways of the old peoples are coming back our traditions and gods before the christian invasions everywhere in the name of god of peace... being iberian pagan myself it took alot of research to find the old ways of my people and I will never let them go the tribes of lusitanian candour ways must never be forgotten they are in our blood and in the land our modern cities stand over the last 6 years I've been learning the true language of my people before romanization some people make call it excessive or strange but I dont really give a damn
This is my first time seeing your intro, and I'm not sure how to process it. Your sense of humor is on point, and I can't wait to see how this reaction goes down!
Their music is amplified history. Proto germanic pagan inspired. So the old germanic and norse tribes, pre-viking. All of us have ancestors who worshipped the elements, their own Gods, and nature. We were all beings of earth at one point, no matter where you look. The first humans, and all of our direct ancestors were so similar in lifestyle and religious beliefs. Worship the sun. The ocean. The reproductive organs. The forests. The moon. The animals. The one constant and unifying force in human nature. This was a cool reaction video. I feel everyone who gives an honest listen to music like this, whether they like it or not, feels that tribal rhythm vibing inside them. Its like campfires and the sounds of nature. It grounds us to our roots. It awakens the love of our ancestors within our hearts.
This whole live performance is epic and is extremely primal. You can feel it in your soul. The music and chanting follow the story of a peaceful village slowly becoming corrupted by war.
This is basically the alphabet song. They are chanting the name of the runes. I recommend Alfadhirhaiti from the same concert if you wish to dive deeper into Heilung.
i was drunk as fuck alone in the forest to the full moon walking like a giant to this shit threw all my pain feeling like the largest being on earth feeling ok
Amplified history is what they day and like @GhulehGirl said, Hamrer Hippyer is an amazing song that also incorporates a variant of the tradition Inuit (Alaskan, Finnish & Greenland) throat singing.
In Maidjan is their first song, you should check them all out, they are all next level. Their masterpiece imho, is KrigsGaldr (warchant). Do them all in order, please :)
Saw a comment that described the pronunciation of their name pretty well. In german, 'ei' is a high note, i sound, 'ie' is a low note, ee sound. Just in case you were curious!
Обожаю реакции такого плана, когда слушают и наслаждаются в процессе, а не как обычно - послушают 30 секунд и минут 5 обсуждают один момент, и так на протяжении всего трека
Romans approaching dark forrest somewhere in Germania and start hearing this. No wonder it took them so long to conquer it ! Btw Maria(singer) is what I imagine druids looked like back then, I guess only 500BC kids remember :)
aaah very cool to have known your channel and good to see the side of a music producer reacting to this wonderful band that I love Heilung, so this first part you hear was actually a Ritual to Odin (one of those rituals actually) and this one is about the young futhark (runes) that is not known all their meaning there are interpretations since something from the bronze age they are singing and from the scriptures that still exist. and they tell the shamanic druid stories and rituals with music, and that's really cool for those who manga Nordic or Scandinavian culture. It is the Woman who is wearing shamanic clothes and Maria Franz is characterized as one of the creatures of the forest of Celtic culture, Dea Matrona.
As a Norse Pagan, Heilung, like Danheim, Wardruna, Salstafir etc; is spiritual for those like me. Much like the American Native, and Mongolian, etc round the world; tribal music is a reminder of our ancestors work to get us to this point. We should always honor that. If you havent yet, try some of Maynard. Any of his 3 bands (A Perfect Circle, Tool, and Puscifer). My most favorite is: Thr Arsonist by Puscifer, 46 & 2 by Tool, and Counting Bodies by APC.
Okay, first of all, Hellblade 2 (highly recommending the first game if you're into artsy video games) is neither an Xbox exclusive video game, nor is the song or band specifically for it, but they did license at least some of their songs for their soundtrack. Heilung is a pagan band, and this was their first ever live show. If you are interested in more, check out: LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE, and LIFA - Fylgija Ear / Futhorck LIVE. To quote the wiki: "Heilung is an experimental folk music band made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Their music is usually about Norse deities, jǫtnar, and valkyries. "Heilung" is a German word meaning "healing" in English." ... "According to Faust, the name of the band "Heilung", healing in German, says something about the style of the band: "The listener is supposed to be left at ease and in a relaxed state after a magical musical journey that is at times turbulent". The recordings of the band are not limited to music, but also contain poems. The references to the early ages of European Civilization are also made by using texts from historical artefacts or historical poems. The languages used are varied, with German, English, Gothic, Old High German, Icelandic, Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Viking age Old Norse being used. As instruments, items are used that may have been already available to humans in the Iron Age, such as drums, bones or spears. "
@@boogiewoogie369 "Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was announced during The Game Awards 2019, with plans for release on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S." That's two platforms, which makes it not an exclusive title. And I am fairly certain that we'll see ports to other platforms too, since the previous game was released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch too.
If you had any idea the extent of the door you just opened for your channel. lol Now if you'll excuse me, having just heard Maria's primal singing, I'm off to hunt mammoths with my bare hands.
if you are looking for a "war chant" try "kriegsgaldr" from heilung. it literally translates to "war magic" or "war spell" and while quite soothing in the chorus, it's quite... shall i say, cold and angry.
They're just singing the German ABC's. 😂 It's actually the old magical alphabet and it's an old ritual chant called Galder to bring the magic of the letters alive.
BROTHER IF YOU THOUGHT 💭 THIS WAS GREAT 👍, CHECK OUT THIS OTHER SONG THEY DID . USUALLY ITS THERE LAST SONG HEILUNG - HAMRER HYPPYER LOVE DRUMBS CHECK OUT THAT VIDEO BROTHER 💪💪💪👍👍👍🎶🎶

Owlthuthewaz - owlthu (glorious) thewaz (servant). Means servant of the glorious
Niwaremariz - Priest of the god "Ullr" / famous, renowned. From the proto-Germanic term Wulþuz (glory) wolþu- is possibly a reference to a God, surely the God Ullr.
Saawilagar Hateka - My name is Sawilagaz.
Harja - Army - leader of the army; commander; Warrior
Wuotani Ruoperath Wuotani - Oh, Wodan! Ruoperath - famous and brilliant.
This could be interpreted as the following:
I, Priest Harigast.
Aaccept the invitation (to battle)
I am the Heruli.
I am a renowned priest of Ullr.
They call me Warrior.
Oh, Wodan the famous and brilliant!
A hug.
Over an hour of prayers to Odin and others, my cultures way of honouring our Gods, I am a proud member of the Ute tribe.
Hail!
Was lucky to see this ritual live in NYC last January. An experience I'll never forget.
JUST found this channel and HOLY MOLY WHAT is that INTRO?! THIS IS PHENOMENAL!!!
They are an interesting group to listen to. Thanks for reacting to them.
As Heilung themselves state they don't perform songs as such they are rituals
Great reaction Mike! Love this performance
The way the music gripped you with the first drumbeat was amazing to see!
Man, I absolutely love them. It's the sort of music that refines with time. Still, I hope that they have another album in the works! There's almost no end to what you can do with this genre.
Did you check out Futha? Galgaldr, Norupo and Traust are my favorite tracks.
@@hippychikforever Oh yeah, definitely. And Traust especially is beautiful- great for meditation.
This was around long before the game. Love this group so much.
I've watched a number of reactions to this video. "Hittin' that thang" is by far the best reply to Maria's stutter I've ever heard.
First time here. That intro is a beautiful work of art.
Your sense of humor is on point, and I can't wait to see how this reaction goes down!
the whole concert is amazing. would definitely recommend Krigsgaldir from this gig
I saw them live in 2019, it was impossible not to vibe with. It just speaks to something inside me that I didn't know was there.
@Beautiful Cancer Life so sad it sold out ):
This is basically the alphabet song. They are chanting the name of the runes. I recommend Alfadhirhaiti from the same concert if you wish to dive deeper into Heilung.
Their song hamrer hippyer is impossible not to jump and move to.
i was drunk as fuck alone in the forest to the full moon walking like a giant to this shit threw all my pain feeling like the largest being on earth feeling ok
Amplified history is what they day and like @GhulehGirl said, Hamrer Hippyer is an amazing song that also incorporates a variant of the tradition Inuit (Alaskan, Finnish & Greenland) throat singing.
WTF, you did a whole intro tune with lyrics and everything. Subscribed! (also it's "high-lung" :))
In Maidjan is their first song, you should check them all out, they are all next level. Their masterpiece imho, is KrigsGaldr (warchant). Do them all in order, please :)
It's been a bit since I have run across one of your reactions. I absolutely LOVE your intro!
Saw a comment that described the pronunciation of their name pretty well. In german, 'ei' is a high note, i sound, 'ie' is a low note, ee sound. Just in case you were curious!
I need to use this song for my morning alarm
When they first recorded In Maidjan, Maria improved her 'solo' part in one take.
I saw you trying to follow along. I do the same thing with Heilung! Pretty soon you'll be chanting in your car! 😂
just discovered your chanal and first thing i have to say is i love your intro, i like your flow. ^^
I saw them recently. It was a spiritual experience, not just a concert.
Yeah dude, you really need to do more from them!!
Обожаю реакции такого плана, когда слушают и наслаждаются в процессе, а не как обычно - послушают 30 секунд и минут 5 обсуждают один момент, и так на протяжении всего трека
didn't know i liked this music, until i've heard it
First time seeing this channel. i must said that is a bad ass intro ... by the way, amazing band you choose. Greetings from México.
Ah welcome to a world with Heilung 🖤 be healthy my brother 🙌
Means “healing”. Love the channel!
Alfadhirhaiti (from the same concert) is more of a war chant. You'd be diggin' that shit!
It's impossible to stay still listening to them
Romans approaching dark forrest somewhere in Germania and start hearing this.
Subbed just for the amazing intro! Great reaction to an amazing band (if you can call them that!)
I had to subscribe, your energy during this was great, so was the intro.
I saw them live. It was a great ritual. This song is about an spiritual ride from the older futhark (runes). Awesome
Look at Wardruna too.
Wardruna is beautiful! There ambiance and sound design is phenomenal in every track they make!
If you meditate to this, you will see things your mind could never comprehend.
Hey! You've found Heilung! Nothing like proto-germanic....rock?
This particular song is more of a mix. The ending is native Indian inspired.
@@Eyeyamgod Nothing in the song in Native American inspired, it's literally a song about the proto Germanic alphabet.
@@Eyeyamgod Yeah that's just a lie.
I can tell he was confused when he heard them, 100% not his normal video. lol
To quote the wiki:
"Heilung is an experimental folk music band made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany.
What? Hellblade 2 is most definitely a xbox exclusive. Lmao! Its not going to ps5 buddy.
@@boogiewoogie369 "Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was announced during The Game Awards 2019, with plans for release on Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S."
That's two platforms, which makes it not an exclusive title. And I am fairly certain that we'll see ports to other platforms too, since the previous game was released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch too.
This was their first live show as well 😃
If you had any idea the extent of the door you just opened for your channel. lol
Now if you'll excuse me, having just heard Maria's primal singing, I'm off to hunt mammoths with my bare hands.
Check out Hamrer Hippyer and Alfadhirhaiti live. These guys are something special.
Maria Franz is so talented it takes three bands to express it all.
IF you have not yet, you need to watch Heilung Krigsgaldr Amazing!!!
Norway, Germany and Denmark :)
Yah, my first instinct while listening was putting my guard up.....
The intro alone earned a sub!
Its not from a video game they just got them to do the music
if you are looking for a "war chant" try "kriegsgaldr" from heilung. it literally translates to "war magic" or "war spell" and while quite soothing in the chorus, it's quite... shall i say, cold and angry.
Maria Franz, the Banshee Shaman Goddess of Norway !
Heilung are amazing ⚔️
I'd love to see your reaction to Krigsgaldr.
If you like this you should check out the Iceland group Skald..they sing in the last true language of the vikings
They're just singing the German ABC's. 😂
It's actually the old magical alphabet and it's an old ritual chant called Galder to bring the magic of the letters alive.
Is this kind of coincidence or what coz you currently react alip bata and Heilung which is i love them so much 😂
Keep Pounding!
Man this intro is epic
brother intro song was lit
Everyone is a gangster, till here the song and see men and women with shields , spears and axes coming to attack
Heilung = Healing.
BROTHER IF YOU THOUGHT 💭 THIS WAS GREAT 👍, CHECK OUT THIS OTHER SONG THEY DID . USUALLY ITS THERE LAST SONG
HEILUNG - HAMRER HYPPYER LOVE DRUMBS CHECK OUT THAT VIDEO BROTHER 💪💪💪👍👍👍🎶🎶
