    42:00 CORRECTION, that rune crafter's kit does not salvage out the rune for you. What it does is salvage out the rune/sigil then salvages it so you 100% get salvage components from the rune or sigil. I found that out after a support ticket. You need to just Blacklion salvage kits or the upgrade extraction tools.

    • @Colathan
      @Colathan 2 года назад +14

      Also the Silver-Fed Kit is equivalent to the Master's Salvage Kit rather than the Journeyman's. It's just a nitpick.

    WP, for destroying items that require you to type the name.... shift-click the item, then in chat bot ctrl+a, ctrl+x, then ctrl+v in the destroy prompt, delete the surrounding brackets and you can avoid typing in some really complicated names.

    Put unidentified gear in shared inventory temporarily, then there's no need for the stop-start salvaging. Shared inventory doesn't salvage.

    A note about encumbered - you may find youre full up but the items in the encumbered window are consumable. You can actually drag items from your inventory and the encumbered window to swap them around. There might be some niche situations where your bags are full, you can temporarily swap the consumable item, consume it, then collect your old item back.
    Rather than have to get rid of one of your items, in order to collect the consumable...in order to consume it anyway. Hope that made sense.

    • @_Banjo_
      @_Banjo_ 2 года назад +3

      My examples bad actually as some cases you can just consume from the encumbered window. But there has been some cases where swapping items between the panel avoids running over to the vendor or deleting things

    A top-tier salvaging tip: Keep your unidentified gear either in your shared inventory slot or somewhere else where the salvage kit can't get to it, then go through this process: 1. Identify a couple pieces of the lowest gear rarity. 2. Salvage all of that rarity. 3. LEAVE the materials. 4. Identify all of that rarity. 5. Now if you become encumbered from that, just deposit all and the encumberance will go away. 6. Repeat from step 2. This makes the whole process for me go much faster and eliminates the need to even watch and see if you're close to dipping into the unidentified gear.
    Second tip: There are very few things for everyday players that are actually worthless. Depending on the kind of player you are, the economy and figuring tricks out can open up a whole new world of possibility in the game. For an example, you had lots of luck and you're at the magic find cap. While not something a new player will achieve for a while, your case opens up an interesting new trick. You save your exotic luck for the festival and, presumably know you could refine the lower-tier luck into more exotic luck rather than throwing it out. But something few players realize is that blue luck can be used to promote Lunar New Year backpieces. Depending on how the economy is at various times of the year, this can give some decent gold. This is probably something very few people other than myself can identify with, but there's an aspect to this game of that whole idea of "not wasting any part of the buffalo" where everything has a use that intrigues me and got me much more interested in playing the game after achieving many of my goals.
    Third tip: Kind of a corallary to the previous one. Try and consider the time of year it is when you're playing. Why were the pumpkin oils, etc. so cheap? Well, it's halloween. Everyone and their dog has inventories flooded with the halloween utilities which give a good magic find buff. The prices were maybe 2-4 times that much in the weeks and months before October.
    Last tip: This is really more of a compulsion of mine to make sure everyone is as efficient as possible, but for new players (as of this writing) I would generally recommend the following: For blues, use a basic salvage kit or the copper-fed if you have it. For greens, vendor it if you want easy gold or use the runecrafter's kit if you have it (this one might be controversial/wrong so I defer to others if this ends up being my outdated/ignorant view). For yellows use the Master's salvage kit or the mystic salvage kit if you have the stones to make it. If you're a weird/unlucky player with no stones and tons of yellows and have the silver-fed, then it can be used.

    • @SheenaMalfoy
      @SheenaMalfoy 2 года назад

      This. Copperfed for blues, Runecrafters for greens, Silverfed/mystic for rares and exotics with shit upgrades, black lion for an upgrade worth actually selling (there aren't many).

    This helped a ton. Ive been playing on and off for years and recently came back in a more dedicated manner. My main issue playing any form of MMo is that Im a hoarder, Id rather jump off a cliff then to delete an item I *might* be using ten years down the line. Gw2 is great since it doesnt have the usual, and tedious, equipment treadmill, but its bad when it comes to all the different consumables and currencies that are only half explained. So seeing someone who has gone through all of it before, who can say "I dont care about this and that" helps greatly, since I can look at my own account and go "Oh, I completed this, so I can delete it, it doesnt have any more worth for me."
    So yes, its a very long video, but also helpful. So many people just skip so many parts and just say "Do this, I done this off screen" or whatever, but you never really get an insight in what exactly the thought process is. Thank you very much for posting this, it gave me great many tricks to use in organising my (Also very) cluttered inventories :)

  • @OniZai
    @OniZai 2 года назад +3

    Doing those HoT meta train all those year ago really forced me to learn inventory wars pretty early on and there were several type of loot bags before its mostly consolidated to unidentified bags nowadays. One thing that help was not clicking on the jumping chests on top of your map or the loot bags till the end of a map meta (or the train itself). Or a downtime while waiting to start, like the meta for Dragon's Stand. As for whether to sell rares or salvage them, I usually compare their price with the ectoplasm in the market.
    I use one those bags which hide its content from the sale menu on TP or vendor, as well as exempt any of it from being deposit, compress or salvaged. Usually put in those loot bags and mats that my bank is already full of, and sell/salvage them when the price is right.

    tip on backpack straps that come with a skin to use. Youve unlocked the skin. Deleting the skin has you type it in (usually a really wordy gemstore name). Equip the backpack, use the skin, can destroy it that way. Saves you typing

    @necropola 2 года назад +1

    All my characters have one invisible bag/box (at the bottom just above the shared slots) for gear, consumables and other stuff I do not want to sell/salvage/deposit/... by accident. And it was amazing to see such a messy inventory. I'm usually cleaning up before logging off or switching characters and sometimes even in between, e. g. at the end of a map meta.
    The GW2 UI has indeed some powerful tools for inventory management, but the question still is why the game messes up your inventory in the first place and then gives you the tools to clean it up. Getting loot should feel rewarding and not like a burden.

    Advice/info for new players: WP's 32 slot bags are the largest in the game and are hugely expensive to craft (120g+ each). They are one of the many LONG TERM goals in GW2 and when starting out 15/18 slot bags are perfectly fine.
    (I'm a veteran of the game and am still rocking 18/20 slot bags on most of my characters)

    I have one extra tip: if you put stacks of unidentified gear (blue/green/yellow) into shared inventory slots they will NOT be salvaged when you use Salvage All option. Unidentified gear will also accumulate there no matter which character you play - saving 3 inventory slots on each character.
    Thanks to this video I learned about option to sort inventory items by their value on Trading Post which is extremely handy for quickly determining whether something is worth selling instead of salvaging. Now I will be able to easily sell more valuable items instead of salvaging everything.

    Hey WP! Hope you are keeping well and thank you for all of your videos. I expect this comment is going to be a slight tangent to the general discussion. I wrote a comment a number videos ago on the new leadership that came in and your passion for the game being so contagious it reinvigorated me to get back into GW2. You very kindly highlighted my comment at the end of that video and I said I would work towards making my first legendary after the legendary armour dropped. Well today I finally completed Exordium and I am feeling great I managed to get it all done! I am just getting in touch to let you know. If I was someone thinking of buying gw2 and I saw a 1 hour tutorial on how to manage the inventory, I'd leave and never come back. It's really not that complicated and you'll learn as you play

    I tend to clean mine as I go along. Like when waiting for world bosses to spawn or crafting things. I also sell and buy regularly and how could I do that with an inventory that looks like WPs?

    Ik keep unsalvageable exotics as you can toss them in the Mystic forge and get a sellable/salvageable exotic or better. They do need to be the same type (weapon/armor/trinket) and you need 4 or 3 with mystic forge stone.
    If you get super lucky it might throw out a precursor though it'a

    I'm a hoarder and what clogs up my bags is items I don't want to get rid of cuz I don't know if they will ever be used for something or brought back to be picked up again. And story books completed/incompleted ones, other achievements ones. Not in game atm so can't give more specific examples lol

    Something that might also make for a good video is going through important options in the game. Things can be kind of overwhelming as they are to newer players I'd wager.

    Regarding the time...a new player would be fighting with a smaller inventory filled with less diverse items. The principle is the same, but in this case the video provides a lot of benefit to more experienced players as well.
    One question (open to anyone)...rather than sell items like the food, wouldn't you be better breaking that down with the cooking kit? I found cooking ascended food required a lot of resources at several tiers. I realize festival foods don't work, but mango pies and the like do. Even to pile into a guild bank for your chefs.

    I think the next stage that usually happens (or happened) for me follows everything in this video, and really starts to become an issue after repeating this process 10-25+ times. You start building up a bunch of exotic or even ascended equipment that you may want to use on alts, especially if they’re stat-selectable. It’s not quite as simple as selling them, and your bank may be too full to hold them. That has always been a massive source of clutter for me, and it happens a lot around festivals or certain patches when new skin sets are available. Recently, because of the legendary armory, a lot of that stuff has been becoming obsolete for me, which has been fantastic. But that’s absolutely not really relevant to the new player experience, unfortunately.
    In general, I’d really just recommend not holding onto more than about 2 of each type of exotic weapon/armor for future builds, and I tend to either keep those in my bank or even on a character specifically designed to hold this items (that is a luxury, I realize). But I’ve basically realized its not worth it for me to bother holding onto more than about 2 of any given type of item - I just don’t play enough characters or do build craft enough to warrant keeping more.
    As for handling exotics, which the video kind of didn’t cover super extensively: I will typically see if I need the skin and will unlock it, otherwise I’ll see if they sell for a good amount (50s+ for armor, 1g+ for weapons) to sell directly on the tp. If they don’t sell for that much or they’re account bound, I’ll mystic forge exotic weapons. Any other exotic weapons or armor, I’ll salvage with a master kit.
    Since I have a Mystic Forge Node, I also often mystic forge rare weapons, but I think I’d suggest new players not bother doing that.

    Just gotta say: don't throw away your Ornate Rusted Keys, you can get Swim-Speed Infusions (which you can sell for some gold) and you also can get a cool breather.
    Also, the Silver-Fed Salvage Kit is equivalent to a Master's Salvage Kit.
    Besides that, I had a nice time watching you clean your inventory.

    Efficiency is always on the top of my mind, my wife has inventory like yours just chuck full, disorganized and utterly abhorrent to my OCD.
    One thing I do, that I would suggest to others, is don't just have a Trash holding character, instead have a specific character for each type of overflow. I have one toon who has all my stacks of Elderwood Planks, another that holds all my Mithril Ingot stacks, another with all my Watchwork Sprocket stacks and so on. I can remember who has what, but if I couldn't I Could jot it down on a sticky tab and try not to lose it. I keep one of my Bank Tabs relatively clean and just shove in there all the stuff I know goes on another toon and then once a week while farming I take those alts to the Guild Hall and they pick up their stacks at the Scribing station, and drop off all their farming loot stacks for other toons.

    I wish Anet offered more bank space without gems that would help my inventory, I think you only get one tab. or give us extra bank tabs when we purchase expansions, it feels like a waste to spend money on features that should be part of the game.

    • @battousai480
      @battousai480 2 года назад

      @@lienzablev6814 that requires a ton of gold for just one small tab. Gold that could've been used to play the game, like getting a legendary or getting the griffon mount. its not worth the time investment to convert gold to gems just for an extra bank slot.
      Also this is a basic feature in every decent MMO, even guild wars 1 didn't limit your bank storage like this.

    • @IxaxaarCZ
      @IxaxaarCZ 2 года назад

      @@battousai480 It is true that 1 tab is far from enough (I have two and I still find it very tight) but don't forget we have a whole giant material storage, no other MMO has that to my knowledge.
      I think it's worth it to invest some gold to make your gameplay more enjoyable ever after.
