Some advice from my experiences with WvW: 1) If it's your first time, don't use zerk gear unless you are outnumbering opponents in blob, or you are pretty confident in pvp skills and just roaming by yourself. WvW will throw a lot of focused damage out there. if you don't have defensive stats, you will probably melt, often times not even getting a downed state. 2) If you are following a tag, don't try to be helpful and throw down siege. Commanders are paying close attention to how much supply is with them, so they can plan on what objectives to take and when. Instead, mail it to the commander. They will appreciate it as they can upgrade it to guild siege. 3) place a target on commander and do everything in your power to stay as close to the tag as possible. Unlike in pve content, if commander is standing in all the enemy AoE's, you also want to be, as that is where all the boons, healing and support will be. You will die quicker "off tag" in no red circles, than you will inside 10 red circles "on tag" (usually). Bonus: join the commander discord if possible. You never need to speak, but being able to listen helps SOOOOO much and will actually keep you alive longer since you can react easier.

Just tried WvW for the first time today after being a strictly PvE player for years. It was more fun than I expected. A little confusing but not too difficult to figure out.
Apropos of unwritten rules: Just like with duels, if people are waiting at the (daily) Veteran Creature spawn point, chances are they are there for that and do not want to interfere with whatever is going on on the map. Leave them be. Better yet, stand in a safe distance, exchange /wave's and jump-jumps and make friends from the enemy server. Tag the beast, let them kill it, win-win! Most of the time, same goes for the random loner on top of a Monument. It mostly doesn't matter if they take it.
Commander tags: on EU servers at least, it seems that yellow tags are often "closed raids" and people will usually get a bit upset if you try to follow them while they're trying to do whatever WvW guilds do in a guild-exclusive way. Best find another tag.
Ralesk, thanks for this. Unfortunately we did exactly this running around once last week. Aware of the “rule” now it won’t happen again ... unless they take the first shot :) Cheers

After you are finished with the initial WvW masteries you talked about. Finish the one that makes you carry extra supplies. That is super helpful. In smaller groups. Or if you find yourself dying alot, get guard defence and the one that makes you take less damage from siege. The first siege masteries you should max is: flameram and catapult, then arrow cart and shield generator. They are the most common siege used. Guard killer is also good to get if you want to focus on roaming and flipping objectives. If you want to play a class that's sturdy and you can do ridiculous stuff with, reaper is currently the tankest class that also deals good damage. Some important advices: 1) check your builds: wvw has its own balance that is different to pve (it has some traits on 5 minutes cd ) 2) check your builds: you should tailor your build depending on what you want to achieve and always keep in mind that the enemies are most of the time real players who try to outplay you 3) have fun, make some friends
Thank you for this guide! I'm not really into the "player vs. player" scene, but I want a Warclaw mount for my mount collection. I'll have to check out your other guides as well. Thank you again!
This is exactly what I needed, thank you for making this. I've been avoiding WvW for a very long time due to feeling overwhelmed, this helped break it down in a way that will help with that.
Nice video. You should have pointed out Righteous Indignation. I see so many new players dying to RI. I often feel sorry for them because they worked really hard to kill everything in the camp only to get crushed by the invulnerable supervisor. xD
If you stationnary protect a specific location, do it only if you have joined a squad. One problem I had was that I would act as a sentry : staying on top of the walls and looking for possible ennemies to notify my team. But I was not in a party with anyone. So the game would give me shit pips, thinking that i'm half afk or something. If you are in a party, it seems that you get rewards for what they do too.
Very helpful video! I did not know about the auto-loot ability hidden in the Provisions Mastery and I might never have found it without this video :) Also nice to mention the unwritten rule of duels. That's the kind of thing you can't find anywhere lol

Havent played WvW since HoT and was Afraid that not having the lastest expansion was going to make it inpoisble to play for me, but now I want to go back and play, thank you
I just got level 50 and I can count on one hand the number of times I've managed to win a 1v1 encounter. I play the mode mostly for the reward tracks, but it's pretty discouraging at times. I can never seem to deal damage fast enough to outpace their healing, even using ostensibly strong builds. I think I'm just terrible. Still have fun, though: for the most part I just dance and wave and make myself an obvious target, a tactic which works shockingly well for setting up sneak attacks.
That's a pretty complete guide. There are other things to know. Like, oh, where to place siege so it's effective. How to use siege (effectively). Might take a bit more than a few minutes, though.
hey, im a old wvw player and commander. dont go first for the claw, go for supply capacity because you can take more supply with you and that means - for the blob. next is supply master, you use more supplys by building rams or catas...
Getting the warclaw takes 1 Rank point. Increasing your supply capacity from 10 to 11 requires 5 rank points. I 100% think getting the warclaw first is still more important for mobility on the map. UNLESS what you meant by this is that you think that maxing out supply capacity should be done before maxing out warclaw?
I'm hooked on WvW now and using it to get my armors, etc. I'm horrible 1v1 but's it's good practice to figure out how to use my key mapping selections under pressure against actual players. totally different vibe from PvE and the use of the Warclaw.
The +5 supply capacity is a must after getting your warclaw and the glider. The warclaw path reward is not a big deal, you can have all rewards after a night with a squad.
mmm... this might be the one type of pvp that I actually like, next to the "your units autobattle the whales and you die, but losing has the same rewards, just half as many" type azurlane has. Just running around zerging stuff was fun in Tera, so I'll definitely try it here (:

Great video, will definitely share with people looking to get into the game mode. If there is one nitpick I have though, it is your advice that a keep's supply should not be used to repair walls. People are often told to stop wasting supplies on walls because the walls are being actively hit by siege. If you just repelled an attack and destroyed enemy siege, then walls and gates should definitely be fully repaired. Like I said though, just a small nitpick of mine in an otherwise great newbie-friendly video. Thanks!
I tried to do some WvW but it was quite difficult to find where the fighting was. Maybe I was just showing up at a bad time, but do you have any advice for when it seems quiet/dead? Where do I go? Can I still meaningfully get rewards out of WvW if I'm truly alone? I looked for commander tags, tried talking in team and zone chat, and without a warclaw by the time I got anywhere where something had just changed hands, everyone was already gone. I want to play but I don't know where to go!!
Yes, if there are no commanders running about you can go and try to capture points. Be it resource camps or just guard posts, all those give you steady progress on your reward track. You also want to see if you have some movement weapon skills to catch up to groups, like Thief bow 5 or even just Ranger Greatsword 3 to get a short boost to join up.
I've just started playing wvw and I like it so far. I started it because I wanted to unlock the warclaw mount and I also thought it would be a good way to unlock legendary armor. Just feel like I don't do much becuase I don't have wvw focused gear or builds. I've spent 90% of my time making pve builds and ive even been struggling to get ascended gear for them lol. So idk if I should continue or just unlock the warclaw and dip out.
thanks for this, just got back into the game and I love ranger/druid/soulbeast; how to you play your minstrel druid in wvw; trying to figure out what I should be playing in a zerk
Love your vids! Only one question, to all, who master english better than me: What does "menstrual" mean? Here, it's mentioned at 14:28, i only find blood-related translations to it, but that can't be meant here.. What does it mean? Oo
LOL oh my goodness ok. You accidentally looked up "menstrual" which is the blood thing you found. The thing I said in the video is "Minstrel" gear referring to this: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Minstrel%27s The definition of "Minstrel" is a medieval bard or singer, maybe someone who plays an instrument.
Didn't see or hear it mentioned but when you 1st go to WvW from pve or pvp you won't get pips/points in 1st 5 minute tick unless you bounce from one borderland to another. Ex: I log in to green bl w/ 3 min left for the tick. I won't get pips/reward points until the 2nd tick, 8 min on green bl, unless I switch to EBG, or red or blue bl within that initial 3 minutes.
I really don't care for pvp or wvw modes in most games, but I do really want a legendary weapon and the reward tracks have mystic clovers >.< So thank you for this helpful start!
Two newbie observations after playing long enough to get the gift of battle I needed and complete most of the warclaw-all the other maps except the Eternal Battleground always seemed deserted. Is this the usual case? And, I waited a long time and kept coming back to see if any groups were trying to take a keep. Most always seemed focused on the castle. Never saw a keep being sieged.
From my oberservation, The Eternal Battlegrounds, and the borderlands on the left-side of the field (the one with the snowy mountains and half of the field being nothing but snow and hills, can't remember it's name, sorry.) tends to be the most active battle-zones. It's understandable why the Eternal Battlegrounds is the most popular and sought after due to SMC being there. Also, in case you are still trying by chance to get a Keep capture, I recommend finding a small group to do it covert-style. Just got my Warclaw today after being stuck on the "take an enemy Keep" Achievement, and we did with only about four or five players as we attacked one that was more or less abandoned save for the enemy NPC's. We also got lucky that the mob was on the other side of the map and didn't realize what was happening until it was too late. But you can certainly get a keep capture with a small number of players.
Coming across this problem where everytime I enter WvW there's no tags and no lfgs. I wander the map aimlessly until im picked off or i find an ally and follow them for a little bit. Is WvW mode just dying or can I really not find any groups??? Been having trouble with this for the past few days, have yet to see a commander tag on any map.
Again people forget that the most vital roll in WvW is the scout. Nice to have all upgraded towers, but if someone isn't on chat to warn you if it was a "tap" or 30ppl showing up for dailies.
Just started WvW from being a PvE nerd. The way to my first Gift of Battle was a pain, my build was awful and my mindfulness of the situations I was in was even worst.
yes its called find a commander you like if you like playing with this person or feel this person gets things done Add that person to your Friendlist to be updated when this commander logs on
I'm finding the amount of info and learning a bit overwhelming. I went to try WvW but server was dead. No tags to follow or anything like that. After some googling it became so complex just trying to find out if a change of server would help, joining the correct guild how to do that, etc I've lost hope tbh.
Awesome! World Vs World seems awesome. It's MMO-RPG Planet Side 2! I'm sure this video will be really good for noobs like me to figure out how to get going :D I think personally though I'm gonna finish the story before sinking big time into WvW. I think I also may wanna wait until Alliances. There's plenty of other things to do in GW2 in the meantime.
Is it possible for new players to level up completely from PvP or WvWvW? as opposed to doing the PvE grind? I been looking for a fix away from FFXIV and Warhammer Online. This game looks so amazing from a PvP immersion perspective. Awesome video by the way. Thumbs up.
Yep. You periodically earn "tomes of knowledge" which is an item that resembles a book and can be used for a free level up while doing pvp and wvw. You can use those on any character you want (even the on you are on) to level your "normal" level.
Just to be where the action is happening. Any time you are with a group of people doing a lot of fighting you will gather a lot more than if you were running around alone in MOST cases.
Remember, the true end game in WvW is about getting your opponent to post on forums to get your class/build nerfed XD
Lol

"I do as much damage as a pool noodle" hey that's me 😆
I've been waiting the entire video to see your second weapon set
So idk if I should continue or just unlock the warclaw and dip out.
wonderful video!
Great info thanx!
Good guide. Appreciated.
+10 for mentioning Havoc Squad
thanks for this, just got back into the game and I love ranger/druid/soulbeast; how to you play your minstrel druid in wvw; trying to figure out what I should be playing in a zerk
Why are you so amazing if it weren't for you i would've abandoned the game from looong time ago Thank you!!!
Hahaha, very flattering thank you!
Here i was waiting for HP trains and I could just get my HPs in WvW
Love your vids! Only one question, to all, who master english better than me: What does "menstrual" mean? Here, it's mentioned at 14:28, i only find blood-related translations to it, but that can't be meant here.. What does it mean? Oo
LOL oh my goodness ok.
You accidentally looked up "menstrual" which is the blood thing you found.
The thing I said in the video is "Minstrel" gear referring to this: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Minstrel%27s
The definition of "Minstrel" is a medieval bard or singer, maybe someone who plays an instrument.
@@MuklukRUclips Thank you! ^^
have fun stormin the castle :D
I can never find any groups on ANY map nor lfg. What do you suggest?
Didn't see or hear it mentioned but when you 1st go to WvW from pve or pvp you won't get pips/points in 1st 5 minute tick unless you bounce from one borderland to another. Ex: I log in to green bl w/ 3 min left for the tick. I won't get pips/reward points until the 2nd tick, 8 min on green bl, unless I switch to EBG, or red or blue bl within that initial 3 minutes.
I didn't know this!
Things about commanders. Which class can be. How play like. Etc..
nice vid!
I really don't care for pvp or wvw modes in most games, but I do really want a legendary weapon and the reward tracks have mystic clovers >.< So thank you for this helpful start!
You can get clovers in drizzlewood which is PvE if you prefer!
my fav role is ambushing out those roamers when their healths are still low after overtaking camps
Yup, got most of the warclaw stuff by accident. It is pretty easy to get the Warclaw.
I got unsubscribed for some reason yet I enjoy this channel most of all GW2 channels. How dare you, YT.
Just started WvW from being a PvE nerd. The way to my first Gift of Battle was a pain, my build was awful and my mindfulness of the situations I was in was even worst.
Would be usefull If you explain about those levers as well.
yes its called find a commander you like if you like playing with this person or feel this person gets things done Add that person to your Friendlist to be updated when this commander logs on
Is full exotic good enough for WvW?
Yep. You can work toward ascended slowly as you are able, but exotic is nearly as good.
Fantastic, thanks,
I now started playing WvW and I LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH! But for some reason, I get a ping spike up to 1k when the fight starts :(
Try going to settings and lowering the character limit so your game renders less players, can make a huge difference in the massive fights.
@@MuklukRUclips I did it saw a nice increase in FPS but the ping still high in fights lol I'll make a ticket. Thanks for the tip :)
I'm finding the amount of info and learning a bit overwhelming. I went to try WvW but server was dead. No tags to follow or anything like that. After some googling it became so complex just trying to find out if a change of server would help, joining the correct guild how to do that, etc I've lost hope tbh.
Just played this game yesterday. I can't wait to do WvW
Awesome!
World Vs World seems awesome.
It's MMO-RPG Planet Side 2!
I'm sure this video will be really good for noobs like me to figure out how to get going :D
I think personally though I'm gonna finish the story before sinking big time into WvW.
I think I also may wanna wait until Alliances.
There's plenty of other things to do in GW2 in the meantime.
thanks my man. gonna do WvW today cuz i need armor skins. sigh.
Another important tip: Don't randomly pull levers.
Best game type for me
Some more advice:
If you join a squad try to go with a meta class (fb, necro, etc) and join the discord or other voice comms
I liked , subed and commented.
Do u think that flamethrower scraper is good for roaming ?
Haven't run into one recently. It might be good for 1v1 fights, but you wouldn't want to pick a long range battle due to your attack range.
You can use those on any character you want (even the on you are on) to level your "normal" level.
hey Mukluk, do you have any tipps on how to gatter much rank experience?
Just to be where the action is happening. Any time you are with a group of people doing a lot of fighting you will gather a lot more than if you were running around alone in MOST cases.
mmmmmm a new arrival?
Do you need the dlc to get warclaw?
You would need Path of Fire (which was when they released mounts) to get the warclaw, but none of the living world seasons are required to obtain it.
