AUTHENTIC 80S HAIR TUTORIAL

- Hey guys! I'm back with another tutorial! Not sure if this is accurate, but it's how I get my "80s hair". Any tips on how I can improve? Drop a comment down below :)
• AUTHENTIC 80S MAKEUP T... part 2!
We used hot rollers and lots of mousse and hairspray. If your hair wasn't a crispy, immobile mass, you weren't using enough product.
avenginggoddess good to know! I’m definitely missing a lot of products, it’s annoying a lot of the brands used back then aren’t being produced anymore :/
Yes, "I'm just going to put a thin layer of hairspray" made me giggle! We literally destroyed the ozone layer with the excessive amount of Aquanet use! I remember carrying a purse size bottle in middle school in my purse, and at recess/between classes, all the girls were in the bathroom reapplying hairspray to keep our bangs up!
Thank you for putting out this video, I appreciate the hard work and research, but I'd say next time it's a lot easier to use rollers and crimping irons to achieve the look. Also, the "cobra" wings on the sides of your face was achieved by taking a round brush, pulling the out from your head, spraying with a ton of hairspray, and then blowing drying the hairspray dry with the brush still holding it in place.
@@msuzannem you should make some hair tutorials!
Mousse, Dippity Do, Aussie hair spray or Aqua Net!
Yeah usually do that and my hair STAYS like I mean it STAYS
FINALLY a result that looks AUTHENTIC. Love it 💖
Hxlden Caulfield thank you!!!
omg i love your user
Yes, I know! I don't know why no one else can seen to do it correctly
The fact that it's so hard for people today goes to show that it's a lost art.
Good tutorial! We used to "palm" our bangs to get them to stand up in the 80's. Using the palm of the hand, rub your bangs on small circles in one direction. This teases the underside of the bang. Now, using a hair pick, lift the bangs and spray it in place. Hit it with heat to dry the spray.
Ilana Thomas thanks!!! I’ll try that 🙌🏻
YESSSSS
Wait is that the technique i never thought about that cause hairspray can be set on fire by heat so i thought you wouldn’t do it with a hairdryer hmm
Randy Rhoads Nope! Your hair won’t catch on fire, that is/was the technique. Low heat for a few seconds to bake in the hairspray. Your hair will be crispy AF, but it helps the feathered wings have volume.
In the 80s, I used hair mousse, dried my hair upside down for volume, curling iron on bangs, teased with a comb, then hairspray. : D
I'm 46. I've watched numerous "authentic 80s hairstyles" tutorials. You all are so cute. I enjoy watching all the young ladies attempt the decade. Lol. Keep making videos.
Not even gonna lie, I had the straight up Warrant, Guns N Roses, Skid Row mullet hair back in high school and I kinda wanna do it again once my hair grows back out. Lol you rock!
Waylon Morley LOL do it! Why not 👍🏻
@@glitterwave80s77 I just might haha
I always used a curling iron, sectioned my bangs like you did, curled the top half back and bottom half down. Teased the top so it made a huge solid wall standing up and the bottom bangs were a perfectly curled row, then sprayed the crap outta of it with hairspray!! 😂 We also did the teased out dog ears, ahhhhh the days, good times!
Marla The 80's girl thanks for the tip! I’ll try it🙌🏻
THIS
Wait what? I thought your hair was styled already and that was the look. It looked very 80s!
劉木 thanks! Yes I cut it in a way so it would look 80s even if it wasn’t curled 🙌🏻
@@glitterwave80s77 how exactly did you cut your hair? especially your bangs?? i really need some bangs like that because my hair is literally so heavy and it’s weighing down on the rest of my hair. :( it’s hard to do anything with it. i like my length, but some bangs exactly like that, would be a game changer for me.
Your 80s hairdo is more reminiscent from the years 1985-87 and it's truly voluminous! I love it!
1:47 your hair reminds me of lars ulrich in the early 80s. love it!!
It's amazing how you managed to get a legit hairstyle without using the curling irons we used to. Definitely need one for the stray straight pieces though. And you want a hairstyle to stay? We used Aqua Net on dry hair...and a ton of it. You know you got it right when you go outside and your hair doesn't move. Your base style was important and also legit. Can't have proper 80s big hair without layers and curls. Use your brush and hair spray to wing out the sides.
Stef Chanel thank you!! Still in the process of getting a curling iron and more styling products, I’ve practiced a bit more since this video and have gone through about 4 cans of aqua net LOL
The accordion technique is a really good one! Reminds me of how we were taught to crimp hair in beauty school, just on a larger scale. We would wrap hair around an open hair pin or bobby pin, in a figure 8, and hold the flat iron over it for a few seconds, and voila! crimped hair! This is so much better because you don't have the heat damage! xo
THE DANDELION GIRL good idea! Yeah my hair doesn’t hold heat that well, so I’ve been doing a lot of overnights styles 🙌🏻
This video is just amazing I’m obsessed with everything 80s and this is probably one of the greatest channels dedicated to the 80s! Rock on girl!🤘 💄
BOO’TIFUL MAKEUP! Thank you so much!!
Yes it is amazing brings back so many memories for me I miss my mom I grew up in the 80s that is when my mom was still alive
Out of all the ways I've tried to curl my hair without heat or a styling tool, I NEVER would have thought of the accordion thing. Imma try that thank you dog bless :D xxx
Georgia West you’re welcome!!! Post pictures 🙌🏻
This is so much more time consuming than how we did it BUT it came out fantastick!
Tara Brenner yeah I’m trying to find ways to make it more efficient 😂 but thank you!!!
this is perfect!! thank you for posting this, it’s like the only one that actually looks like the 80’s. i am going to a decades party today and needed this 😩
I follow you on Instagram and I just want to say that you give me so much 80's vibes girl! I love 80's so so much and all I need now is this tutorial, thanks so much!!
Eli Hristova thanks!! Glad you liked it🙌🏻
Your style is so on point! Many tutorial videos I’ve seen on RUclips don’t get the 80s style right. Yours is legit
I have been trying to find a tutorial like this on RUclips since I was 11 years old in 2010. Thank you so much. Thank GOD!!!
You really commit to the style and treat it with attention, detail and respect. 😊
Koko Lounge it’s everything to me! I want to get it as authentic as possible🙌🏻
You look straight out of a time machine XD I remember a few women looking like that still in the 90s… I'm sad I missed the whole decade, having been born on the last year of the 80s :/ I used to hate the fashion of this era, the colors were too flashy and clashed with each other, but now I'm mid-30s I LOVE IT. Too bad I'm too lazy to try and emulate a look like this lol
Put your curl gel on towel dried hair & some aussie sprunch spray and after you scrunch it real good blow dry it upside down. Lol that's what I used to do. I had a crimper thing back in the 80s like yours too lol we did our whole head with it. Oh & to get those high bangs we you get a brush or a pick and hold it up & spray it with hair spray & run the blow dryer on it until it was stuck that way.
i totally dig this. you have the best tutorial ive seen so far! your commentary is super funny too
V. Eian thanks!
I FOUND YOU!! GIRL YOU ROCK! I LOVE HOW COMMITTED YOU ARE TO THIS😋
Oooh you should get some of those flexible rod curlers we used to use, the bendy ones. They’re pretty fun!
finally !!! I've had a hair tutorial like this, I've been looking for it for a long time, and finally I can also get this tutorial 😭💛please don't delete this video 💛. There are all kinds of places I'm looking for to do hair like this, they told me it's an old style, so they don't know how to do it ... Thnks you so muchh 😭💛
This worked so well! I received so many compliments. Thank you!
Finally an authentic look!😍
Laney McNamara yes! I couldn’t find any so I figured I’d make one 🙌🏻
Dude omg I can’t believe I found you on RUclips 😂
YESSS FINALLY SOMETHING AUTHENTIC!!! Subscribed!
You actually look like you're from that time period..and I have no idea what I even mean by that..pretty wild. Awesome video.
'80s hair was suppose to be " messy and frizzy" lol. I loved that. Keep the '80s alive.
Best and most accurate 80s hair tutorial I’ve ever seen!
I 💜 all about the 80's! 😍
Totally love this!! Looks like the real deal!! Going to try this sometime thank you!
Nancy Dason thank you!!
Very Pretty that looks so good I miss the 80s best days ever for me ❤️A hair dryer would also work that’s what alot of us used in the 80s I grew up in the 80s ❤️🙂
Congrats for your work, always very authentic, it's so rare, perfect! Hi from France.
wow! I really liked this video, it's super simple to do it, I hope I can do it with my short hair
it's ridiculous that I'm using my dad's account
Ivan Ruggieri yes! It works for pretty much any hair type 🙌🏻
I got a perm and my step mom who’s a hair dresser said I can use a wet brush and they work really well especially for teasing
Oh my god I saw your intro and immediately fell in love your hair 😍😍😍😫😫
Would love a tutorial on how to get that haircut!! Do you cut it yourself? I show pictures to my hairdresser but it never turns out how I ask, so if u want to show us how you cut it, we'd all love it! ♥ 80's are the best!!! Great channel ♥
Thank you. Always wanted my hair like John Taylor ( Duran Duran) :)
Looking quite authentic! You should curl the bangs under with a barrel iron, then hairspray out by the temples using heat from blow dryer. Also, try the putty in the temple area & use heat on that too.
Kate Muccino Gandhi thanks for the tips! I’ve started using putty for a few months and it helps so much! Have to make an updated tutorial soon🙌🏻
GlitterWave80s Also, I used to braid my hair all over & sleep on it to get that base texture. Great job! Can’t wait to see more.
Kate Muccino Gandhi yes! I’ve done that too🙌🏻 when hair salons open again I’m just getting a real perm😂
GlitterWave80s A spiral one! Everything curly except for top.
She got a perm now and she looks amazing 😊
Finally have a mullet, so I'm totally gonna try thus method for my bangs!!
I was curious, when your a bit older and have a job and your own apartment or house, how would you decorate it? Do you like the 80s home decor styles?
merfwriter Hiley I would probably try and make it as authentic 80s as possible, with the exception of some household appliances. I’d install some neon and glass blocks🙌🏻
merfwriter Hiley true! Idk for me it has to be authentic 😂 some modern stuff is ok if it can pass as an 80s item though
I love it. The 80s were fun for me
I loved this! The time it took for this really brings me back. I would put hot rollers in at night and wake at dawn to achieve the look before school. I knew I needed a good hour to complete. Half the time I would cry cuz it wouldn’t go right lol. Used lots of rave spray and I used that studio L’Oréal but the curl spray!
I loooove this! Im so gonna try it myself 😍😍
Vany Insane yay thanks!!! Post pictures🙌🏻
I love this so much and that shirt is everything
Ace Ambrose thank you!!!
I love this so much!!! Omg you seem like you would be the best friend ever. Your vibe is everything!!🥺🤍
You’re so cool! Love your stuff
You nailed it!
I LOVE THIS!!! You are too cute!!
Crafty Paris thank you!!!
I love your haircut at the beginning. How did you ask for it? Is there a way I can specify a hairstylist to cut my hair that way? I just want them to understand or else my haircut will come out completely different. I could also show them a picture. 😭😂 Love your vid btw!!
Vintage Princess Jellyfish I looked in the mirror with a pair of safety scissors and did it myself 😂 I would either print out a picture for the hairdresser, or ask for a long shag, or just short layers at the top and longer as they go down. Hope this helps 🙌🏻
@@glitterwave80s77 omg that's so cool that you cut it yourself. Yes, I'll bring in a picture!! Thanks 🤗🤗
I cut my hair to essentially what you have so now I’m pretending I was going for a vintage look.
This is better than those phony tutorials
I like your 80s related tutorials
This was very helpful, and awesome!
Emily Zapien Artwork thanks!!!
ur the absolute coolest ❣️keep being you
Have you guys seen
Gilbert Arciniega Channel on RUclips. He has some great stuff. He posts all of his old VHS family home movies of him and his family back in the 80s. His videos give an awesome look into real day to day life back in 80s. I love watching his videos because it takes me back to my early childhood years back in the mid-late 80s.
merfwriter Hiley no I haven’t, I’ll be sure to check him out!
I think this is the first video I watched of Gilber's collection of home movies that I found on RUclips. I came came across his video/channel while casually looking up movies 80's home movies between 1985 to 1989. I felt those were the years when most people probably had a VCR player to record or watch movies from VHS tapes.
Here is a link to one of Gilbert's home movies: ruclips.net/video/cPsUaHOb8Zg/видео.html
merfwriter Hiley thanks! I’ll watch it🙌🏻
omg i love your haircut!! what would i ask for at the hairdressers? :)
Perfection!! You nailed it!!!
This is GOLDEN I love it
From what I saw as a kid in the 80s my mom used hot rollers then she backcombed her hair and fluffed it up with her fingers and used a light hairspray
You look like princess Diana
Weird Cow thanks!!
YES! You are so cool. Do you 🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️
kathzygy thanks!!!
My hair by far took the longest… but it wasn’t too hard. Brush and spray out the sides holding it in place with the brush while waving the other hand to help fry the spray, then curling iron all my bangs curled under, separate a thin layer at the front to stay curled under and covering the forehead and the rest were brushed up and back while spraying to achieve the feathered curled stand up poof. This was later converted into the stand up straight bangs with tease to the side and layer into the side gil look lol. That was easier because no curling iron. Just hold, spray, tease the top into the perfect draped drop to the side. :) Then I went full Mohawk.. :D that was always easier to stand up on day 2 or more. Freshly washed hair required a ton of spray where as day or 3 day old hair just needed to be re soaked with spray until pliable and reformed and held with comb or hands while a hairdryer dried the spray. Repeat until hair achieves rock like status-in more than one way :)
Love this so much! Would you happen to have any tips on how to do it with natural DIY products (homemade salt spray, etc.)?
Sugar water!!!
Thanks for the video and comments! I'm wanting to do a Nancy cosplay from Stranger things but her season 4 hair is REALLY big and curly! Im in love with it. Was going to buy a wig but i wanna do it authentic
Could you do a tutorial on how to get the haircut? I love the bangs and volume on top
To get static out of your hair, try wetting the brush before you brush through it
Charlie Neider ooh thanks!!
Please do more of these!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 70s Stevie Nicks cut lol but its so hard for me trying to style it with thin hair! Do you have any recommendations?
YESSS IM DOING THIS!!!!
grace kuhn post pictures!!!!
I will!!
Your hair looks 80s at the begining of the video.
Uh hi I'm ur biggest fan I love all the 80s thing u do u are so beautiful let me be just like u pls ❤
Lilah Kessler SAKHSKSJSKSJ LOVE U QUEEN
@glitterwave80s NO UUUU
if i put my hair in tight french braids and leave them overnight, would i still achieve type of hairstyle? my hair is shoulder length.
jumichju it will be more wavy/ crimped looking but it still should look 80’S!!
I was born in 1982. I remember back when I was little some teenage girls did the french braid back in the 80s. What looks really 80's with a french braid is if you curl your bangs with curling iron and then teas the bangs. I agree with Glitter Wave I think it will look wavy/crimped when the braid is taken down.
I wanted to clarify that I didn't mean to put hair in French braids to get the curly perm hair effect. I ment like an actual French Braid as a hair style.
merfwriter Hiley thanks so much!!
Hi, Is it possible to make that hair without aquanet? I don't live in US and it's pretty expensive to import them (around 20-40$ for a bottle). Are there any substitutes?
11:54 glam shot 😍
I'm curious, do you plan to perm your hair? I'm tempted to get one tbh
Madeleine Washbrook I do! I was going to get one then corona happened, so hopefully when it’s over I can finally get a real perm 🙌🏻
Hi, it's Lucian 😁 I'm just checking out your videos, finally.
I've never seen the zigzag method before. Have you ever tried the small twisted buns? It's a different look and you probably prefer the zigzag but I was wondering if you tried it before, it's how I curl mine when I do
Lou Bold hey! Yes I have done that🙌🏻 I definitely need to make an updated video 😂
@@glitterwave80s77 Oh nice! Can't wait to see that 😁 If you ever get tired of editing I'm happy to help!
You are so cool. That is all.
Megan Balestrero thank you!!!
Have REALLY tall "mall bangs"!
Hey maybe you could help me with this. How would you do your hair to make it look like Philty Animal Taylor's (drummer from Motörhead). I've always wanted my hair like his and I have no idea on hour to achieve the look. Any help would be appreciated.
Being a guy, well i will try the rubber bans Thing, i really love the 80s but I have really fine nordic hair. So volume buhu not here 😂
Hey I’m looking for a 80s style for my think hair for a glam rock style any tips?
Hey, I have a question or two about this. I have naturally curly hair, and if I let my hair air dry, I will later get sinus pressure (I inherited this from my mom). Is there any way I could get big hair without risking sinus pressure, or ending up with undesired results (ex. my hair not sticking outwards)? Thx.
Miss Mandicorn you could try just teasing it from the foot after you dry it normally and using hairspray! Or, dry it with a hair dryer after using the tutorial! It doesn’t have to be wet overnight, just as long as it’s rubber banded for that long :)
So I got my fake perm done the other day, and it turned out fine. May I show it to you on IG?
@@missmandicorn1 sure! just DM me or tag me :)
So good ily
Cici Rhuel thanks!
“Stu Stu Stu Stu Studio line from L’Oréal new studio gel!”
Please do a make up tutorial 🤍 My make up skills are terrible! 😭
The two tools of choice was a crimping iron and the smallest barreled curling iron (the one I used) you could find. And two products gel and mousse. Then you tease it wherever you want the volume. Spray spray spray.
What kinda haircut do you have
"Love This So Much ! More 80'S Stuff Plz "Keep Up The Good Work!" PS. Just Subscribe! :D
Is there a specific brush or brush you'd reccomend??
SOC Bekkz I just use a fine tooth comb to tease my bangs!
damn i really wanna do this sort of 80s look on my hair but it's too long, probably wouldn't work 😓
zewdae you should still try it! When my hair was longer it just had more volume on the bottom and less at the top, but if you tease the front enough it should still look something like this 🙌🏻
@@glitterwave80s77 Ok thanks, I'll try that 😊
YESSSSS😍
I LOVE YOU
Are you telling me I need to cut my hair into the razored scene kid mullet hairstyle I had back in 2007 to be able to achieve this hair?? ...I'm not against it tbh 😂
Sickapig sort of? LMAO I’ve never styled it that way but if it works for you😂🙌🏻
You must use a curling iron.
Is there any type of Aqua net hairspray that’s non aerosol?
I use Aussie sprunch hairspray now to define my curls! But it’s not really one to have everything stay in place :/
@@glitterwave80s77 do you have any recommendations for non aerosol hairspray (for super super super natural straight hair) that will make your hair look wavy and huge like In the 80s? It has to be non aerosol and teen safe or my dad won’t let me buy it😂😂 thanks!
