@@snowman8135 Indian privately operated buses are mostly sleeper and very nice. I have travelled in international business class flights along with these Volvo sleeper buses in India. The top operator's Volvo Sleeper bus travel was more comfortable than the Emirates and Etihad business seats. Off course you can't compare their service level or food/drink options. But take a nap at night and you are at destination in the morning. It is that nice. The pickup points, road traffic sense, emergency exists are pathetic, no 2 ways. Also Indian buses don't have toilets.
Dude, juragan 99 certainly top tier of java long distance bus travel company.. Fyi, indonesian bus often didnt set quite well for 180cm+ people.. Mtrans (jakarta-surabaya-malang) probably offer the same level of service. Enjoy your trip in Indonesia, have fun!
Great trip. Ah yes, you tried Indonesian bus, the first is Juragan 99, nice. Redbus lounge actually pickup point, meanwhile the Original Bus Station just few hundred meters (and yeah it's the busiest bus station in Southeast Asia), but yeah for safety reasons waiting on Redbus lounge or Bus Operator office or Bus garage along Medaeng and Bungurasih is an excellent choice. The chassis is Scania K410IB, combining with the most popular body builder nationwide from Malang city, Adiputro. Great choice for the lunch. It's great to mentioned the Volcano along the journey.
3:28 Wow weird there are three separated lines of seats. In other countries the standard is one single seat line and another line with to seats togheter, that way you have more space in the aisle. What is the reason for such a weird scheme...
I did Singapore to Hat Yai on a luxury coach with 2+1 seats much like the business class on the bus in the video. Very comfortable, and slept pretty well... the major negative was the air conditioning was set to "Tromso in January", which seems to be a SE Asian thing
Very true I'm from Indonesia and the buses are always freezing, on contrary I always feel boiled whenever I had to take bus in Europe because they set the heater to high, one time I was taking bus from Oslo to Stockholm it feels like I'm in the sauna as I'm fully dressed in a coat because I thought the bus is going to be cold like in southeast Asia
Well as Indonesian with roots from mountainous regions and lived in Europe I have no problem with this, I still figure ice skate regularly in malls all year long.
My place of birth is in Surabaya, that's also where my relatives live. I usually go there by train, I didn't know that if I pay a for a little bit more, i can get an incredible service and trip like this, i mean I'm not actively looking for these different transportation modes but thanks to your videos now i know. Thanks 👍
"Bis Malam" - Noteriety and reputation much deserved. Imagine getting on a national express from Edinburgh Bus Station to Golders Green and putting all your chips on black, because God knows which bridge your bus was going to fall off. Do you fancy a plunge at Berwick or into the Tyne! In the days of old before the toll roads connecting the cities in Java, you had Pantura (north shore road) which was basically a street race between the various different AKAP (transregional buses). My safest way of driving between Jogja and Jakarta was to pop up to Semarang and hypermile tailgate behind an EKA or Rosalia Indah bus in the early hours of the morning, with them acting as a blocker. Once I got past the Cawang toll plaza, I felt like the gamble paid off, but I'd need to be eating my prayers and saying my vitamins, brother, because I'd offically be handed over from the steady surefootedness of the night riders to nutjobs comandeering Jakarta's Metro Mini fleet. And that's how I learnt to drive and think nothing of it when people complain about driving standards back home in the UK. I'm glad you managed to enjoy the luxuries and modern amenities of what Java has to offer dude!
@@NonstopEurotrip Good lad! Actually looking forward to visiting my folks in a couple of weeks time - been 5 years since I last went to Indo and you and SuperAlb's vids have been kinda living the dream for me.
Indonesian intercity bus is actually amazing even compared to trains. Not all cities in indonesia have trains even in Java Island where most km or the railway is located, and they also sometimes offer cheaper alternatives. In my opinion however, what makes indonesian buses aren't popular is because: 1. The 'calo' system at the central bus terminal (i dont know what is the english equivalent of it). Where people buying bus ticket at a large quantities and reselling it at a much higher price. Sometimes even straight up scamming passanger by giving them a different ticket that doesn't even reach their destination. 2. Safety reasons. A lot of stolen goods drom passanger, usually electronics like notebook, phone, or laptop.
@@NonstopEurotrip Bad incidents that occur are more because users/customers don't know many informations about this public transportation service. Loss of luggage is also due to customer negligence in securing their own luggage. But agree that security on buses during stops, take a break for meal on buses that already have CCTV can be distributed to each company to increase security. After all, every bus executive has a WIFI network that is connected to the internet at all times. Likewise, bus staff can help with supervision. About the ticket scalpers activities, their existence has been greatly suppressed with the existence of online tickets that consumers can buy directly from their smart cell phones. Once again, those affected by ticket scalpers are those who have minimum information about this service. However, what needs to be improved is that most online ticket service applications do not include English which makes it easier for foreigners to use them.
These are what we called "the KING of TRANS JAVA HIGHWAYS". It would not matter how expensive and how fast your car can go, if you see one behind you just give them the way. They rule the entire highway system in java.
Jakarta - Surabaya - Malang roundtrip are the most sexiest routes for bus companies in Indonesia. Even for the standard, they are much higher from any routes in Indonesia. Anyway, that gopro scene was so cool!
This entire trip reminds me of my journey from East Java, Ponorogo, to Jakarta two weeks ago: the same toll road, the same stop restaurant in Ngawi, and excitement feeling upon seeing Mount Lawu. However, I was fortunate to enjoy an even better view this time due to the clear afternoon sky.
Thats one heck of a super bus and driver , I must say. Looked incredible.Years ahead of National Express and an absolute bargain at that. Good video effects but I would have rather seen the stormy scene in real time, not speeded up! Interestingly, traffic drives on the left. I didn't know that. I'm wondering why, as was there any past British influence in Indonesia?
It was the dutch influenced,or should i say dutch pre france napoleon colonialisation and the indonesian neighbouring country malaysia was part of british colonial country So yeah the dutch wont change to right side driving
Lovely bus indeed, even if you need to multiply the cost by 3x or more at local salaries. A sit-down meal can be had for 25-30k (£1.25-£1.50) away from tourist areas even in cities like Bandung. British Bencoolen was a thing on Sumatra for a long time but it was Stamford Raffles who decided on driving on the left (as opposed to "anywhere") while the Dutch had their eyes off Java due to that Napoleon guy.
The best buses I've been on are the free shuttle buses in Zion National Park, Utah. Not for the buses themselves (though I have no complaints about them) but for the fabulous places they take you to, on a hop off / hop on basis. Several other US national parks offer similar facilities, for example Yosemite and the Grand Canyon.
The best view when passing the Trans Java Toll Road is in the morning passing through Surakarta, Boyolali, Salatiga towards Semarang. You will see Lawu Volcano , Merapi Volcano, Merbabu Volcano, Mount Ungaran & Mount Telomoyo.
I think you should try to ride the bus again but during Eid celebration, many Indonesian people return to their hometowns and at that time inter-city routes like this will become very crowded and congested, I'm sure this will be a new experience for you and will definitely be an interesting video especially for Indonesian viewers. This year's Eid celebration has just passed, maybe you can try it next year, and try to use another class or another bus operator as a comparison.

My best bus journey was on a Malaysian bus from Johor Bahru up to Kuala Lumpur. Massive super comfy reclining leather seats, three abreast, with loads of legroom. Why can't we get buses like this in the UK? Instead, we're squidged into horribly narrow hard seats four abreast and no legroom.

There used to be lie flatbed buses that operated from Purwokerto to Jakarta, but it was banned several years ago. The official reasoning is "due to safety reasons", but many alleged that the rival companies who couldn't provide similar service complained to Ministry of Transportation through backdoor channel.
You'd never see a bus that nice in the US, I think you'd even struggle to see ones this nice in Europe. Our buses are faster though, quite common to see US long haul buses going 75-80mph (120-130km/h). Luxury bus service could actually be a decent seller in the US, as a bus can usually make better time than an Amtrak sleeper train, provided the price isn't outrageous.
So glad I stumbled upon this video just before my Java tour this week! How did the food on this bus compare to other luxury transport meals you've experienced?
@NonstopEurotrip Very true, but I am certainly grateful to you for including the information. I'm visiting Indonesia next year and need to get from Sumatra to Jakarta. I watched your videos to help me plan my trip. This luxury bus will be the one I go for.
i'm sure Mr Yasin used RedBus to order your ticket (which my preferred way too) which offered a comfy lounge on some departures as you experienced in the video. However, most bus operators (usually non-luxury ones) rarely use redbus as their ticket vendor and most of them depart through terminals which were far from the city and is often correlated to being dirty and unkept.
Thanks so much for this video. Never considered taking a bus trip on a long trip in Indonesia, but this might be a good idea if you're wanting to see more of the countyside. Thanks so much.
I usually travel out of town by train, but sometimes train ticket prices in Indonesia are very expensive and unreasonable, in my opinion transportation accommodations are like buses This is an alternative choice, apart from being comfortable and you can choose tickets according to class such as executive class, sleeper bus to first class like an airplane. Bus services in Indonesia are also very good Amazingly, you will be pampered with comfortable chairs, free meal coupons and quite filling snacks

I took J99 bus on my way back to Jakarta, with the same seat as yours, in the video. Previously, I also took J99 (sleeper class) with only 11 passengers from Jakarta to Surabaya. By the way it’s easier to download the J99 apps to purchase a ticket.

I can't imagine that would make for a pleasant journey for non smokers.
I noticed drivers undertaking (passing on the inside) and so the comment about using the hard shoulder is not a surprise. My favourite busses are in museums, and not on the roads. Perhaps it's age or better knowledge but I am not a fan of bus travel (except local journeys) and much prefer rail travel. With that wet road did anyone check the tyres?
Yes definitely not! I was born and lived in Surabaya before moving to USA and I take Greyhound/Peterpan bus everytime I travel to NYC from Boston. Also the train here in USA is not as nice as in Indonesia.

I'm 185cm and I was fine 😊
Thanks for sharing and yes, I had a great time 😀

The living legend, immortal and unforgettable, the one and only Pantura 😂
I survived 😂
@@NonstopEurotrip Good lad! Actually looking forward to visiting my folks in a couple of weeks time - been 5 years since I last went to Indo and you and SuperAlb's vids have been kinda living the dream for me.
Ah Rosalia Indah and Pantura, i remember sitting behind the driver. That was unforgettable adrinaline rush ive ever been.
Indonesian intercity bus is actually amazing even compared to trains. Not all cities in indonesia have trains even in Java Island where most km or the railway is located, and they also sometimes offer cheaper alternatives.
In my opinion however, what makes indonesian buses aren't popular is because:
Calo means Ticket Scalpers i think

Bad incidents that occur are more because users/customers don't know many informations about this public transportation service.
I can believe that 😂
Jakarta - Surabaya - Malang roundtrip are the most sexiest routes for bus companies in Indonesia. Even for the standard, they are much higher from any routes in Indonesia. Anyway, that gopro scene was so cool!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
This is just crazy cool! And I haven't seen the Japanese one you mentioned yet, so I'll need to go check that out now too for comparison!
Thank you Steve, and sorry I'm a bit behind with the comments Steve, oh and check your Instagram DMs 😂
So cool!
It was the dutch influenced,or should i say dutch pre france napoleon colonialisation and the indonesian neighbouring country malaysia was part of british colonial country
So yeah the dutch wont change to right side driving
Lovely bus indeed, even if you need to multiply the cost by 3x or more at local salaries. A sit-down meal can be had for 25-30k (£1.25-£1.50) away from tourist areas even in cities like Bandung.
British Bencoolen was a thing on Sumatra for a long time but it was Stamford Raffles who decided on driving on the left (as opposed to "anywhere") while the Dutch had their eyes off Java due to that Napoleon guy.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Unfortunately, I'd have to go to America tho 😕
The best view when passing the Trans Java Toll Road is in the morning passing through Surakarta, Boyolali, Salatiga towards Semarang. You will see Lawu Volcano , Merapi Volcano, Merbabu Volcano, Mount Ungaran & Mount Telomoyo.
As I did 😄
There's a smoking room? As a smoker I find this pretty cool. lol

There used to be lie flatbed buses that operated from Purwokerto to Jakarta, but it was banned several years ago. The official reasoning is "due to safety reasons", but many alleged that the rival companies who couldn't provide similar service complained to Ministry of Transportation through backdoor channel.
Purwokerto-Jakarta to Jawa Timur many channel stry!
from Banjarnegara to Jakarta via Purwokerto i reckon...
I think some here are faster but this is limited for safety
So glad I stumbled upon this video just before my Java tour this week! How did the food on this bus compare to other luxury transport meals you've experienced?
Hallo bos...😂
It was actually pretty tasty!
Absolutely amazing to see the smoking room! Not being able to smoke is the major thing that puts me off long distance bus and train travel these days.
Most people wouldn't agree tbh
No, he ordered them direct through the app!
Here in the US, the best bus you can travel on is The Jet which runs between NY & DC and Texas has a luxury bus called Vonlane.

Not really. We still need to pump more resources to build our infrastructure especially outside Java.
