- Some artists struggle to ever get their music noticed by Spotify and their algorithm.
In this video we cover tips on how to expose your music to Spotify and start gaining more streams from music fans.
Find out the true quality of your streams:

How do we find out the % of premium listeners? I can't seem to find that in Spotify For Artists.
you guys have come a long way from the content you used to make, very thought provoking
You both have been so good and consistently honest with the music community that’s for hard work!
This is great ! Gave some really great ideas ! Thank y’all always for great insight . Cheers
So now we have people spending a lot of time DMing their mediocre music to random strangers in order to get streams on Spotify. Then Spotify pays them 12 Cents for all those streams and keeps the lion's share. Wouldn't it be better to spend that time making good music? I am asking for a friend.
It’s more than just make good music.
Music is subjective my friend..you have to work the record in many different ways, promotion, Dms, playlists, all kinds of methods.
Thats why they call it “working a record”. For major labels this can take months, what makes you think its easier work for an indie artist. This industry is not for the meek.. it takes dedication and business acumen.
We’ve been feautured on several playlists without any pitching or marketing. Don’t forget that the song is what matters the most!
Great channel. Liked and subscribed.
I always like the really pragmatic, granular advice that you give.
Guys, can you give advice to someone starting out at zero, i mean absolutely none prior social media presence? I have been making music for quite some years but never bothered sharing. I have an album done now but no idea how to get anyone to recognize that music. Made an Instagram and tiktok account and am trying to be active every day, did upload on Spotify but 0 plays lol. A video on that topic would be so super helpful.
Anyways, appreciate your videos, I'm slowly learning from you. 👍
Hello 😊😊What kind of music u make btw??🎉🎉😊😊😊
OK, so apparently someone (the creator?) deleted my reply for me posting a link I believe. So I just let you know without it, I make electronic music, multi genre kind of.
@@Keith-cc8udKeith, start off with releasing a single, and when that’s out build your Artist followings with Pandora, RUclips and Spotify before releasing more of your music.
@@OfficialStevenCravishe's asking HOW 😂
Watch this video again because it's just about that.
Hey guys! How do you find how many premium listeners I have on Spotify for artists? Really want to get your feedback on my audience. Thanks!
Helpful info - thanks again!
Does Spotify take into account the shows and bands an artist plays with when listed under the events section of an artist’s page?
Amazing information, thank you!
That's interesting about the LinkedIn stuff, have you guys gotten good resukts from it, and how much of a budget do you think is good enough to spend?
Hey, great video. What do you think about messaging the editors themselves? Would this be a bad idea?
what number of Editorial playlists would you suggest is the right amount for your pitch?
2-3 - small, medium, large
Anyone has contacts at Spotify or in general in the Alt/Folk/Indie scene
Where does the screenshot of the percentage come from? A specific distributor? I have never seen that information available anywhere before. Also a topic that I have seen very little information about is the "Like-percentage", you can calculate this yourself by taking likes/listeners from spotify for artists. I think this is a very good metric but havn't seen so many artists share this data to compare. Keep up the good work!
Hard to answer this because every distributor is different. I find that like % can be faked too easily so we haven't focussed on it.
@@Burstimo What distributor does the premium screenshot come from? I have used many distributors but haven't seen it before. Regarding like-percentage, of course likes on songs can be faked, but I don't believe it is a common issue, since it is only available to the artist self in Spotify for artists. And it is the number 1 factor I use to see how popular my different songs are, but depends on how things where the song gets it streams from, algorithmic or playlists etc.
Very informative thanks
thank you guys
but how if the music is from overseas and has a different languages? is it still had chances?
Not unless you're capable of creating a bop as good as this:
open.spotify.com/track/52Zr0sinhWTCRrQhRRY4EP?si=20e23785d26c46b8
How does one check the breakdown of premium subscribers?
your distributor but not all offer it as a feature
When you say 'you might have to pay them'... How much are we talking? And what do we do if we don't have the disposable income to pay these people?
If you send a pitch, do only people from your country that work at Spotify see it? Or does it go everywhere. I heard that my country is so small, there is only one person currently working for Spotify. 1+1= 2 as in, labels are friends and get one step ahead. Not a lot of spots left for independents in our playlists. I actually see almost none. But if I pitch, could they also put it in broader playlists? Does It go to other people? Or are the independents from my country just F*cked?
Ehhh, as someone who just makes beats, I think it’s better for an artist now especially independent to go to Direct to consumer a little cult following of 10-20k people can really support a music career, $5-10 an album with merch, will beat any streaming revenue.
Nice.
Can you pitch a song after it has been released?
Not yourself via S4A na, but a good distributor may be able to give it a bit of a post-release push but you have to have some momentum already for that.
@@Burstimo thank you
You guys do one on one calls at all?
via our membership we do yeah. It depends what you need from us and the question you have in mind. We don't want people paying for consultancy calls if they're not going to get something of significance out of it.
Sent an email but never got a reply unfortunately. Kinda unprofessional.
Guys, thank you very much for this gold mine of knowledge! All these insights are so invaluable and really boost confidence and desire to try even more strategies as an artist❤️🙏!
the LinkedIn tips are GENIUS!! mind = blown
Would you guys recommend editing the SFA editorial pitch once it's been submitted?
Thank you so SO much for everything you do, you guys are AMAZING!
Thanks Anja! Maddy did also drop you an email earlier today about the survey I mention at the end too.
@@Burstimo that was going to be my second question hehe I can't see the email on my end, SO sorry about that!!
🔥🔥🔥
Okay, I'm digging thr Indian Motorcycle shirt. Which model do you ride?
Bah sorry to let you down but I don't ride motorbikes. My Caterham is maintained by a company called Krazy Horse who also sell motorbikes and merch and I really liked the T-shirt that they had for sale lol
@@Burstimo ah, yeah. I know the guys at Krazy Horse. Paul's built a sweet business there, a real adult playground 🤘
Anyone know indie folk playlist
The whole DM'ing every follower of a Spotify Editor is pretty hardcore man lol. That's 857 DM's for the first Editor example. Beyond the logistical pain of actually doing that, isn't there a risk of pissing people off ? Or does that not bother people in the industry? That advice is more shocking to me than telling Spotify which playlists you likely fit best on in your submission.
And are you sending like a link to Soundcloud before the song is out I guess with some generic note about who you are/why you are spamming these people? It's not like you can link the Spotify/released track since the point is to get onto editorial playlists which happen before the song is out.
I really learn alot from your videos thank you
Very insight
Great
200k from Autoplay are you sure
Fuck spotify, phisical media is the way to go! Buy and own your music!

Love you ❤
Shame its not worth using these parasitic streaming platforms. Better to go direct to audience.
Man that's so true but it's also very hard to get an audience 😢
@@SL004 But if only one person buys your album on CD, that is like getting 5000 streams. If two people buy your CD, that's 10k streams. Etc
@@1337murkhow many people have bought your CD?…
@@Justforcoms had a few projects sell 500 copies here and there, small runs, vinyl and cd etc.
BTW, attempting to question me on my personal things doesn't discredit my initial point, that one cd sale is worth 5000 streams.
@@1337murk I’m not trying to discredit you on personal things… my points is that it doesn’t matter how many streams a CD is worth because nobody buys/sells CDs
save yourself the time of the video, we hear the same advice over and over ignoring the fact Spotify pays close to nothing and same are the chances of Spotify choosing YOUR MUSIC over whatever major label artist they have contracts with. lets be realistic here pls :)
not to mention Spotify would need literally thousands of employees just listening to pitches all day if they were to actually listen to all of them. I don't know how they can claim they do
@@mouthwaterofficial this!
Such a long video for saying nothing
You didn’t watch the video
@@rossmusic25 what did I miss? The right way to pitch to Spotify? The credibility?
So many fake artists with alias get in editorial playlists without any presence anywhere
@@eltonwild5648 you can tell who is fake and who isn’t if they actually have a social presence where they have videos of them on their socials interacting with their viewers
You must've had the video muted, at least I hope you did, otherwise there is no hope for you my profile picture-less friend.
