    Mechanically it would be wise for Taliesin to choose a celestial pact because they currently have a 7 person party and only one who can do any healing. Though I've never known anyone in the Critical Role cast to do the wise thing.

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  6 лет назад +1

      The celestial would make a good choice. Should make for much higher stakes episodes.

      laura is playing a cleric, trickery domain but can still heal well enough
      pike was a war cleric and did the job

      nazim mezghrani . Sure, but that's only one character, in a party of six (really) you'd want at least 1 more if not 2 more backup healers, just in case the Cleric goes down.

    • @FrumpybutSuperSmart

      killcat1971 There is also a new spell in Xanathar's for Cleric and Wizard called Life Transferance. Though, It's a third level spell and wizard's don't have that much health to exchange.

    My next character I'm thinking of playing is a Protector Aasimar who is being guided by an angel or some form of celestial. However I'm thinking about making him a Blood-Hunter under the Order of the Profane Soul, and to explain it as he is also being guided by a Fiend, demon, or something related. I feel like this would add some interesting developments to see the character be torn apart by these two very different beings
    I'm new to D&D however, so I'm curious for some thoughts, criticisms, and suggestions anyone of you has behind this and how to role-play and develop him

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  6 лет назад +2

      I like it a lot -- don't sweat being new, you'll still be able to manifest the character with some help from your DM. That's the first tip - have your DM play the roles of the Celestial and the Fiend. It'll be easiest for you to RP that conflict if you yourself are faced with conflicting motivations.
      Mechanically, you'll love Order of the Profane Soul. Wonderfully capable character. Follow the advice in my base-class Blood Hunter video for prioritizing some Con in your stats, if you can.

    It is a very tactical, economical sub class. You need to find the fine line between your spells, cantrips, and melee with Rite. While the spells will come in very slowly, the damage and second act (LVL 5-10) will catch up. Oh, and your background and flavor will greatly aid playing this.

    Building a witch hunter profane soul character, and loving the early level feel of the blood maledict to sunder spell alongside human variant feat of mage slayer. I saw a lot of comments about a hexblade comparison and I think for building a character that *feels* like a witch hunter, this is a great and fun way to go, having both RP, social, and in combat advantages specifically geared toward that purpose of hunting down nasties.

      Happy to hear you're liking it -- nice combo with Mage Slayer. Very thematically appropriate.

    The problem will come with multiclassing.....what happens with a warlock, bloodhunter.....unlike other spellcasting classes i think you would just add spells and cantrips, but also your spell slot max too.....

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  6 лет назад +4

      Its definitely a bit sticky, especially since Wisdom vs Charisma casters. There's a snippet at the very end of the publication that says to add only 1/3 of your Blood Hunter levels to your Warlock level when considering spell progression.

    Subscribed! In my current 5E campaign I’m playing a blood hunter with profane soul. Super fun and broken.
    Combining hex, rite of fire, and a bow that already does piercing damage and fire. C-Combo breaker!

    Profane Soul is my favorite BH archetype. The ability to multiclass warlock (hexblade and tome are my choice) turns this caster into a decent gish, and the ability to choose either wis or cha (depending on how many levels of warlock/BH you take) makes this an amazing choice. Take Grasp of hadar and Agonizing blast as your invocations to pull enemies to you as you set up your nova. Take as many as 6 levels in Warlock, as the Warlock shares slots with Profane Soul, but its cantrips are counted separately (and also has better spell advancement). The only downside to MC BH/Warlock is that certain invocations (Cloak of Flies and Maddening Hex) key their extra damage off of your charisma modifier, which won't be particularly high (13 in order to get that warlock mc).

    • @MonStarGuy
      @MonStarGuy 6 лет назад +1

      I also love how profane soul acts like an adapter for either Cha based or Wis based classes (by taking either equal amounts BH and warlock or taking more levels of one than the other).

    I'm running a Hexblade Blood Hunter in a campaign and I'm really enjoying the playstyle. We're still pretty early into the campaign, but the Warlock/Fighter style has led to some great moments so far.

    I am doing this class for an upcoming campaign where I play a scourge aasimar twf pact of the celestial. I think it'd be cool if you did another more in depth video concerning fighting styles and the best spells. You have the only solid take on this class on RUclips.

    regarding your concerns over this sub-class "doing too much" i think you haven't realized that it doesn't get any access to spells above 4th level. Its not just "a slowed down warlock", but rather a drastically reduced (almost gimped) warlock, with a little more physical power than a warlock would normally have. This really goes back to your over-comparison of the blood hunter to the fighter, except this time you're doing it with profane soul vs warlock. It does explain why you would think it does too much since you seem to treat the class as "the same" to each, but it really isn't "the same" as either. I would advise taking a step back and really comparing them properly, instead of superficially. Warlocks go all the way to 9th level spells, whereas profane soul barely reaches 4th level. Fighters get heavy armour, 6 fighting style options, and 4 attacks, whereas blood hunters get medium armour, 4 fighting style options, and 2 attacks (the same as both paladin and ranger who both also get 5th level spells regardless of which sub-class is chosen).
    I do have my own concerns over this sub-class. I think it is the weakest of the 4, and the least unique (among other things). However, your comparisons to other classes are very innacurate and misleading. (everything else is great, i just think if you are going make these comparisons you need to get them right)

      Kyle - I understand you disagree with the analysis, but there was a more polite and less arrogant way to say that. I know "it's the internet" but we can and should be better than that in the gaming community.

    • @asherandai1000
      @asherandai1000 6 лет назад +4

      John Pettus while i appreciate what you are trying to do, i do not believe you are correct. There were many more rude and dismissive ways to say "your wrong", however i instead fully explained why i believe his comparisons to be misleading and innacurate as well as why i think he may have innadvertantly gotten the wrong impression. Details are everything in an analysis. In addition to that i prefaced my explanation with "i think", indicating that i am fully aware i may not have the full picture, or that i may have received the wrong impression from his words. Finally, i finished up by giving praise where i believe he is doing good.
      In comparison you on the other hand chose to simply say "your wrong" with zero explanation or alternatives, even taking it one step further by insulting me. No explanation, no examples, no preface or anything else.
      However, i am fully aware that i can come across as blunt or "arrogant" because i say what i am thinking. It is not my intention to do so, but i do not believe that hiding behind pretty words helps anyone. Honesty is the highest form of respect.

      Kyle Nott how is this the weakest of the four? I would think that would be order of the mutant.
      For me, the amount of the choices it provides blows ghost Slayer out of the water.

  • @RockRidX

    Ok so I'm a str based Order of the Profane Soul BloodHunter. I use a great sword, at level 5 I am doing 2d6+x+1d4 rite damage with an attack and get to do this twice. Why would level 7s power Mystic Frenzy be an upgrade, I would get say 1d10 force damage from an eldritch blast and then one attack of 2d6+x+1d4. This doesn't seem like an upgrade. Am I missing something?

    • @RockRidX
      @RockRidX 6 лет назад +1

      Is there some interaction between attack actions and gaining one weapon attack as a bonus action after casting a cantrip I'm failing to grasp. Does it allow me to do two great sword attack and a cantrip because then I could see the upgrade

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  6 лет назад

      Hey my man -- good question. At 5th level, the Eldritch Blast warlock cantrip scales to produce 2 beams of 1d10 force damage each (and again at 11th level, for 3 beams total). You can target them at the same or different targets, if you wish. So at 7th level, Mystic Frenzy would let you cantrip for 2d10, and then hit a bonus action sword strike. Also rite damage at 7th level is 1d6, so your action trade-offs would be:
      Attack Action: 2 melee attacks, each for 2d6+x+1d6
      Eldritch Blast Action + Bonus action attack: 2 blast rays for 1d10 force each, and a weapon shot for 2d6+x+1d6.
      Thus the tradeoff is a single weapon attack for 2d6+x+1d6 or an eldritch blast for 2 x 1d10 force damage, which could be a significant choice depending on melee vs ranged actions and your strength modifier. Holler with more q's if something seems off.

    • @RockRidX
      @RockRidX 6 лет назад

      Sorry for the late reply and ty for yours!
      Yeah I failed to think of the way eldritch blast scales. Level 11 onward this seems very strong. Does the blood hunter have access Eldritch Invocations from the warlock to further upgrade eldritch blast?
      At level 7 though the choice is 2d6+x+1d6 times two. Or two ranged spell attacks of 2d10 ( they can even be split targets) and one strike of 2d6+x+1d6. The only real reason to do this is to maybe spread your damage around multiple enemies, which is situational. Hmm maybe some of the other cantrips like i.imgur.com/5nUfYUG.png would be good if surrounded. Because I cant see a time when this would be useful. Is this just one of those levels where you got something shitty or am I missing something XD

    • @RockRidX
      @RockRidX 6 лет назад +1

      So I did some more thinking and my best thing to do would maybe cast green-flame blade and bonus action attack. this would do 2d6+x+1d6+1d8 from GFB plus 1d8+x to a creature within 5 feet. Then the bonus action would pop for another 2d6+x+1d6

  • @GoblinLord

    Elder Scrolls fans can think of Blood Hunter Celestial (or Eldritch depending on your opinion) as Meridia's Champion, sure, you're serving a demonic being, but you're killing undead while you're at it, so what's the harm, right?

      Hexblade might be .. slightly stronger from the smites? The invocations are also highly useful when u don't go the bland Eldritch spear and agonizing blast haha.
      But profane soul is super cool. Love it.

    • @EvilShadow7777
      @EvilShadow7777 6 лет назад +3

      Technically you can do both, you just won't get access to Pact of the Blade since your main class isn't Warlock
      That Hexblade's Curse on top of Rite Damage though isn't shabby

  • @braviary7212
    @braviary7212 6 лет назад

    My main question about Profane soul is do the Bloodhunters adopt the features with their Pact for example at 1st lvl Hexblade gives a warlock "Hexblade's Curse" and Hex Warrior then more stuff at lvl 6 and so on.

  • @andromeda6712

    Would the bloodrights be considered a magic?
    In a campaign I'm Gm'ing the magic of the world is very unstable, and there's a DC(d20) that is refigured for each in game week. If they don't make the DC, wild magic happens.

    • @TitanGamingTV
      @TitanGamingTV  6 лет назад +1

      I would probably categorize as magic, though I wonder how you characterize other class/archetypes' magic-esque abilities for this purpose. Would you count Paladin's Lay on Hands as applicable for this effect? Or how bout Bardic Inspiration?

    • @andromeda6712
      @andromeda6712 6 лет назад +1

      Titan Bear Gaming good point. I think those would be innate abilities, so not effected by the instability of magic, because it's their ability to do so rather than actual casting of a spell.

    The Blood Hunter is pretty iffy with me as is. This subclass is pretty stupid. You might as well play a hexblade. Hexblade is better in my opinion without the massive HP drain
