My neighbor in Chicago had one of the first R8 V10's in the Midwest. His house was 30 meters from mine, but every cold start of that car rattled the plates and cups in our kitchen. What a sound! :)
Great content, been subscribed and watching for a few months now. I think you have a great mix of explanation, video detail while still speeding up certain portions, humor, and content length in a nice 12-15 minute zone. It's not going to provide a full DIY, but after watching many of your videos we can start to see what the typical failures look like, and things to watch out for, whether we consider taking on these tasks ourselves, or being prepared if we take it to a shop. Keep up the hard work, we all appreciate the time you put into this!
Man. What a pain. I easily and without hesitation open up and close up human hard and soft tissue everyday, but am scared poopless to get in to a car like this. He’s a true automotive Doc.
This channel definitely deserves more subscribers. Quality content. Could you do a video in which you would tell how you got into working on cars and especially VAG cars? Would be nice to hear some background to all this.
Great video and a really interesting channel to follow. Can’t wait for the rs6 c5 video. I owned one in 2010 and daren’t touch it myself with spanner’s. Luckily it had full extended warranty and engine was out 3 times in 18 months. 2 transmissions and several sensors. Hope you have great success with your channel - you guys deserve it. 👍
surprised the owner did not opt for a carbon clean seeing as 90% of the labor would have overlapped even though it looked pretty clean. keep up the videos, your shop would be my dream job as a vw audi enthusiast. I just did the chains on my b6s4 is my garage and used your videos as reference material. greetings from the midwestern united states!
yes, you are right, I started crying when saw that, I had three day job to tear apart and put back together engine just to clean carbon. And lot of blood on my hands.
I was thinking about buying an Audi, but as I see the access to engine is even worse than in corvette :))) thank you for all the detailed videos, thanks them I have more clear view about construction details of those cars.
I am a new subscriber to the channel as I only recently discovered you. My work is primarily BMW and GM, but while I love your channel, it certainly puts me off doing anything on Audi's for sure. While BMW's have their challenges, Audis are next level frustration. Well done.
Just found your channel and impressed with the complexity of the Audi engines. That rubber grommet that fell out. Use a dab of silicone and push back into intake. That way you guarantee that you don’t drop anything into the internals.
After watching just a handful of your videos, one things is for sure, and that is I’d never ever own an Audi. That said, I appreciate seeing you use fender covers. I used them always during my time as a tech, going back to the mid-80’s. I’ve mentioned on other channels why they don’t and was roundly attacked by the channel fans for even asking. Also a buckle-less belt or buckle turned to the side.
I still want the V8 content, even though you have done them before. I'm in the market for a B7 S4, and I now know a lot more than before because of your channel. Love the manual geared cars with the highest level of engineering possible. It helps me to know what to look for when buying one. You do interesting content, because many other channels does not go deep enough on the technical stuff, or they just don't know what they are talking about. You certainly do! Fresh sub and follow on IG from me! I've binged almost all your vids. You really do a great job!
just love the way you explain stuff; so honest and reliable...awesome content as always...learned so much from you mate, really appreciate your channel. Don't stop the good stuff like this
Awesome video!I have an old 2008 s6 with the v10 with just over 50k miles and when watching you working on this things I always start thinking about selling it😄So much for german engineering 😜
@@ironmantooltime Too late already 😁Now I got 2016 Audi A8 4.0 t sport.Cross my fingers, so far so good.,but could never sound like the V10.Very different cars🙂
Great video...no wonder you have a back back...acess is a nightmare....usual problems with most cars these days...corroded terminals giving spurious voltage to ECU...car sounds the dogs bollocks...👍👍
:) I got S8 V10 and every inch is filled, not ever my cat can't go inside the engine on cold days, it goes to warm up in wifes A4 in winter time. It is a top of the line engine, for first 2 years my closest (older man) neighbor tought I have a broken car, because of shaking his house on my cold start every day and then I told him that is normal and showed him the engine - he started laughing.
Lovely car, very beautiful but it looks like a very cramped place to have to repair things in. I bet your back was sore after leaning over it like that. Well done though!++++
Awful access! Who ever designed that at vw needs to go back to school! If I was the team leader of that team, this design would be in the bin! Nevertheless, great explanation & video capture of what you were doing & why! 👍🏼
My neighbour has a V10 coupe, same colour.. Lovely cars.. complicated though. I am not pro EVs but they seem extremely simple, like a plug and play App, compared to performance ICE cars
Hello thank you for the very informative videos..I have a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg with the 4.2 fsi engine I'm having a misfire in cylinder 7 under load only blinking check engine light I've done the swap coil and plug .compression is good ..do you think I'm looking at a faulty injector ..if so is thier a way to check with a scan tool ..I use a launch x431 ..jus trying to get a good diagnosis before pulling the manifold ..
What a wildly impractical car. I can easily imagine these things being abandoned once they are out of warranty. At the very least, these will be bought second-hand, by guys who will lack the funds to keep them in proper running order. That is where your shop enters the picture.
You guys must have good memories. I'm ok taking things apart, but the complexity of taking some engines apart and then reinstalling them in the same path would be well beyond me. Kudos to you. It's hard to understand the cost saving of making EV's. Just a motor, cabling and control box's. No vacuum pipes, no injectors, no throttle bodies, no plugs, no air/fuel/oxy sensors, no cam chains, no belts, no timing issues... Just a sign of the the times...
Audi engineers: let’s put four bolts on the outside of the intake manifold that are easy to get to and then we can hide the other eight bolts in the middle so they will be very hard for anyone to take out.
Im going to be doing this to do carbon buildup removal. How can i turn the engine to make sure the valve are closed before i spray the walnut blast? Can i crank it by hand? Or can i just hit the ignition for a second to allow the engine to turn?
I live in the states and no mechanic within 150 miles will work on my car. Is it possible to pull the engine from front on Audi B8.5 S5? Which would be better, pull from front or bottom? I'm going to do it myself at home. I don't have a lift. I might be able to raise it up about 4 feet.
My neighbor in Chicago had one of the first R8 V10's in the Midwest. His house was 30 meters from mine, but every cold start of that car rattled the plates and cups in our kitchen. What a sound! :)

If you were in Chicago how many feet was that?
Lol. 110 feet.
Just bought an S5 and fell on this channel by chance. Love it. You sir, are nothing short of a car genius I reckon.

Well,at least the engine runs!
Are there port fuel injectors and high pressure direct injectors? I like the twin fuel system method.
Love it Tom. 😀
what a pigs ear in getting access to the engine...difficult, or what??? but nothing is ever a problem for you, and this really speaks volumes
is that coolant migration from the reservoir, the reason why the knock sensor connectors looked like that?
I can’t stand Audi as a manufacturer as there cars are over engineered and I don’t like them but I do enjoy watching you’re work.
Good grief thats a mean place to have to work .
you could use a small amount of glue to hold that little seal in place whilst you refit the intake.
