Envy was perhaps the biggest jerk of them all, and yet you still couldn't help but feel sorry for him, living a life of hatred to try and cope with his own immense feelings of personal inadequacy.

Really, I never really liked Envy from the start. I kept thinking "well let's just see the day you die, i really hope you'll die". Then he died for real. And godfuckingdammit, the tears I give for a character that I don't even like...
"You'll never get another chance! This is the perfect time! Hate, and weep! Killed and be killed! Fight each other! GROVEL IN THE DIRT!" and all around him, faces showing no anger, no resentment, no hatred.... only pity, for the small, contemptable, pathetic monster, clutched in Edwards hand.
Regardless of everything he did, I still felt sorry for Envy and cried so much when he died. His death was by far one of the saddest deaths in the series.

Envy's death scene starting with its conversation with Mustang(his anger and sadness....) is my favorite FMA scene of all. This song of course being the devastating cherry on top. Its interesting how music can make you care for scumbags, if nothing was playing when Envy starts to cry pretty sure not many would have felt for Envy and absolutely no one would have cried like so many did. Envy is my favorite character. He really could be quite the badass at times! Not to mention, his voice actress, Wendy Powell, did such a wonderful job. The tears I shed during his final moments were both out of genuine sadness at the death of my favorite character as well as pity.

What really got me in this scene was the fact that Envy actually called Ed by his name. He had never done that before, calling him 'Pipsqueak' all the time. It's so ironic that his last words were Ed's full name, which was probably the most respect he had ever shown anyone. And it was fitting since it was Ed who made him realize he was jealous of humans. It was the cherry on top of what was I think the most pitiable death in the whole series.

All sins are actions that either bring harm to one's own soul or (more importantly) to other people. One who suffers from envy does not sin because he hates others, or even because he truly wants what others have....... he sins because he hates himself. Maybe that's why Envy's death was so sad. We all feel inferior in one way or another...

He was proud to be homunculus and he was despising humanity, but deeper at heart, as Ed said, he envied people that he can't be like them. It's really sad. Moreover he hadn't been understood even by their mates. Ironically, only people - his enemys - understood him.

I laughed when Roy was burning him over and over, I mean the eyeballs that especially was hilarious, after all Envy did, he deserved that punishment. But when he reverted back to his true form, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him, his death was indeed sad.

Let's not mention Hitler, it's a completely different story, that gives birth only to spat regardless of what side do you take. And about Envy. I didn't say I forgave him for killing Hughes, or that I started to like him all of sudden. I also didn't cry. But yet, don't say, that you sat through that scene without any feelings towards him. Even if you still hate him, it's FMA's legendariness, that it can create atmospheres, such as that scene, where you don't know, what to think anymore. Most of the times when I shed tears watching this anime, it wasn't because something was sad, more like because the script and the whole story were so amazingly and artistically written.
Gab98Spyro Well, not that much of a different story I guess since Hitler appears in one of FMA movie... but anyway; Let's take a look at what Envy did : He killed Hugues, yes, but that's still only ONE PERSON, he also killed that kid in Ichval, which leads to the Ichval's war. Basically, Envy created the war, killing thousands and thousands of innocent people. That's why this scene frustrated me : I really really love FMA, The plot is flawless and the character are amazing. But this elusive scene was ridiculous in my opinion. During Envy's entire speech I was like : "Are the creators of the show really trying to make me feel sympathy for him ? I mean, wtf ?" That was a bad scene really I think

He was proud to be homunculus and he was despising humanity, but deeper at heart, as Ed said, he envied people that he can't be like them. It's really sad. Moreover he hadn't been understood even by their mates. Ironically, only people - his enemys - understood him.

When he transforms into Hughes wife to show off how he killed Hughes, you think he's a pathetic slug that Roy needs to just kill, but when they finally corner him you begin to wish that he doesn't have to die. Envy was jealous of humans and therefore took out his anger on them.
For some reason I liked Envy, he/she/it was the executor of many vital parts of the whole story and he seemed so evil and hateful, I really got sad when he died even though he deserved it

Envy did a lot of horrible things, but his biggest crime was to make all cry over him when he killed himself.

An emotional death was much more satisfying than a physical one for Envy even more so after being tortured by Mustang's flames
I laughed when Roy was burning him over and over, I mean the eyeballs that especially was hilarious, after all Envy did, he deserved that punishment. But when he reverted back to his true form, I couldn't help but feel sorry for him, his death was indeed sad.

Gab98Spyro Not at all ! His explanation on why he did all that stuff was interesting, but still it's not because he was crying and that the music playing at this right moment was melancholic and sad that I should feel sympathy for this dude. Don't let it fool you.
It's just like reading Hitler's story : The fact he didn't managed to get his Art college. It's part of History so it's interesting. But, should I feel sorry for Hitler ? Well... not really (Godwin's law strike again)
Let's not mention Hitler, it's a completely different story, that gives birth only to spat regardless of what side do you take.
And about Envy. I didn't say I forgave him for killing Hughes, or that I started to like him all of sudden. I also didn't cry. But yet, don't say, that you sat through that scene without any feelings towards him. Even if you still hate him, it's FMA's legendariness, that it can create atmospheres, such as that scene, where you don't know, what to think anymore. Most of the times when I shed tears watching this anime, it wasn't because something was sad, more like because the script and the whole story were so amazingly and artistically written.
Gab98Spyro Well, not that much of a different story I guess since Hitler appears in one of FMA movie... but anyway; Let's take a look at what Envy did : He killed Hugues, yes, but that's still only ONE PERSON, he also killed that kid in Ichval, which leads to the Ichval's war. Basically, Envy created the war, killing thousands and thousands of innocent people.
That's why this scene frustrated me : I really really love FMA, The plot is flawless and the character are amazing. But this elusive scene was ridiculous in my opinion. During Envy's entire speech I was like : "Are the creators of the show really trying to make me feel sympathy for him ? I mean, wtf ?" That was a bad scene really I think
