When I was about 5 my mom would read my brother (who was about 6 or 7) and I the novel Full Metal Alchemist Land of the Sand before bed. My brother is blond and I always loved robots and characters in suits of armor like Darth Vader so we’d pretend to be Ed and Al. I’ve also always had type 1 diabetes so I related to Al’s desire for a cure to his condition. To this day I still see my brother in Ed and my mother in Trisha. I recently rewatched brotherhood with my older brother and, I can’t help but feel so blessed that my first exposer to anime was the greatest series of all time.
