I didn’t realize how much I underestimated the significance of KotH in my childhood and life in general until I started tearing up watching this. The characters remind me a lot of my family and the people in my area (southern Kansas) so it hits close to home, and the tone and humor isn’t “haha poopies gore and sex” like most other adult cartoons. And the fanbase seems to be really chill for the most part, not really many children and no gatekeeping BS that I’ve seen. RIP KotH. There won’t be another show like you for a long time...
you should definitely check out Joe Pera Talks with You, it's an ongoing adult swim series and definitely captures that warm midwest feeling, i think you'd really enjoy it
The production team thought Luanne's wedding was going be the last episode and filmed a would-be final scene for that episode. It was very slap dash and featured many out of circulation background characters and a lot of one off characters like Junichiro and Anthony Page. It was weird and I'm glad they got to keeping going.
Growing up, KoTH was never as fun as The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy. But as I got older, the more and more I really started to enjoy KoTH. And this last episode always gets to me.
I really didn't get into KOTH until high school, where as I was teenager, I finally started understanding all the jokes in there, that's the magic about this show, it seems boring as a kid, but that's because kids just wouldn't get the jokes in here, let alone pay attention to the plain details of the characters
I honestly don't want another season of this show unless Mike judge can make a final scene that makes me cry again. The simplicity and music at the end of this show, it can't be reproduced
I mean the luanne and lucky wedding episode was almost gonna be the finale, but got 2 more seasons instead, that finale would have been good when hank and the guys had a beer in the alley like always
Yeah it's sad they basically use the Principle Moss episode to show he "doesn't need anyone" when he finally gets everyone to move out and is happy all alone watching TV laughing. Really sad actually. Rather have had them do the wedding cake scene to show he was over his ex wife. But the way they went just shows life isn't fair sadly.
For those curious, and discussing the issue, this WAS the last broadcast episode on Fox and was intended as such. When Fox canceled the series (for the second time actually), we selected this episode from among our season 13 stories as most suitable to be the finale and wrote the final scene to wrap it up. We had four other episodes in the can which later aired on Adult Swim, but this was the finale. We wanted to go out with an episode in keeping with the spirit and character of the show. Something real and small (in the best sense) not showy and false. We were originally cancelled in season 10 and "Lucky's Wedding Suit" was going to be the series finale and the last scene was supposed to wrap up the series-- the guys reminiscing in the alley after Luanne's wedding about all that had happened. At the eleventh hour, the show was picked up again, and we re-wrote the last scene. The missing Bill wedding cake resolution is true. The animation was a little confusing and we were tight on time, so unfortunately it was cut. It is true the show dealt with Buck's dysfunctional co-dependent relationship with Lenore a few times, but throwing out the frost-bitten decades old wedding cake was our way of saying that in that moment he was finally, definitively free of her. In retrospect, is a big regret. For us, Jeff Boomhauer, Texas Ranger, was just a fun delicious surprise, which obviously invites a lot of speculation in hindsight.
Question, if you are the real Jim Dauterive: Was Bobby Bill's son? The theory rests on the apparent similarities between Bobby and Bill, and the fact that Peggy seems to despise Bill despite his obvious affection for her. Personally, I just think Bill, on account of his traumatic childhood, is attracted to/feels most comfortable around people who shit on him, so to speak. I also think Bill and Peggy may have had a brief, non-sexual fling in some distant yesteryear, but nothing that would have resulted in Bobby being born. The writers seem to be aware of this not-so-secret dynamic, though, and seem to tease at it throughout the series (e.g. when Dale proposes that Bill "inseminate" Peggy after Wally proves to be a less-than-stellar son substitute, when Bobby asks Bill if he was adopted, when Peggy and Bill were on the bridge in "Bill of Sales," the secret sauce episode, and more), but, ultimately, I think Bill just sees the Hills as the family he himself would have liked to have had, if things were different. That's why he often expresses jealousy toward Hank, attraction/feelings for Peggy, and a fatherly attitude toward Bobby. He doesn't feel the same for the Gribbles because he knows their "family" was largely built on lies and deceit, whereas Hank and co. seem to embody everything he wants out of a family. Sorry for the novel, but I'm self-quarantining and am watching this series for about the 8th or 9th time haha
@@kjohnson954 That's a fun fan question. We always enjoyed the speculation, but never intended it as a fact. And last time I checked, I was the real one!
Honestly i've not watched really any King of the Hill, only a few episodes when I was younger, but even I still felt the sense of community from this scene. People from all walks of life together at peace and a father and his son connecting. Heartwarming.
One of the best endings of an animated series I have seen. I don't even want a reboot, I'd rather have a spin off series centred around a grown up Bobby.
@@keonkeels5691 Futurama ending was pure shit. Like... It completely excluded all the characters except Fry and Leela instead of giving us a proper send off. All it did was give us some lame love story about living together in a world where everything else is frozen, then they're gonna forget and presumably go back to normal life. I'm positive way more fans would have preferred the last episode not be hard focused on two characters out of such a large, beloved cast.
everyones so insecure of integrating and socializing with differing cultures and with the advancements of technology since the 2000s probably limited the amount of community/ block or bay partys and cookouts like this
I watched this a year ago. I recently finished the series again. I'm not afraid to admit, I cried. This show was so good. The beginning starts with "that boy ain't right" Then, just before this scene, HANK SHAKES BOBBY'S HAND!!! And finally the two tips, after Bobby realizes he'll take after his dad in something he enjoys. It's got danged beautiful
She would've made a great Harley Quinn. Another reason we can't have a new series, aside from no Luanne or Lucky, is that it'd be hard to find a way to explain Ladybird still being alive (unless they go the Futurama route and have her head in a jar).
@@dandeleon2764 They should just move time forwards & make a scene in an episode where hank is looking at an old picture of ladybird a bit sad then sees his current bloodhound looking at him & hopping up to lick him.
This may have been the best finale of a show I’ve seen. It makes me smile and tear up a bit no matter how many times I see it. A perfect show I’ll tell you hwat.
Then perhaps you didn't know that some guests stars where singers Zz top voiced hanks cousin And penis er... i meant Willy Nelson voiced as himself in this show. The guest stars were definitely NOT just random people There was also Bernie Macintosh, and Chris Rock and Drew Carry
Good to see everyone working out their difference not just with their neighbors and friends but also with their families a fitting end to a master piece
This is the last scene people. There were four episodes that aired later for the first time in syndication, but this was the final episode. This happens more than you'd think.
The Bobby/Hank relationship grows so tight here compared to other times they came together because this was something that Hank really felt he was passing on instead of learning to like himself, and Bobby had his own personal interest in separate from whether or not his dad liked it. They could finally be mutual enthusiasts with their own information to share and learn from each other in a language the other was already familiar with. This was the hobby that they could talk about for years to come. And while the propane/charcoal and other heat methods issue was bound to come up again, Bobby had earned Hank's respect on the subject so Hank would definitely be more receptive to the idea specifically from his son who knew more as a teenager about beef than Hank did in his 40's.
The true ending to this beloved show: Hank and Bobby finally find something they have in common, a passion for cooking on the grill. Peggy sees this and finds it heartwarming, instead of bringing attention to her. Dale success healing Nancy’s headache symbolizes she has stopped cheating on him with John Redcorn and she truly loves Dale as a husband. Kahn and Minh lay off Connie for dinner. Saying she has studied enough and should enjoy spending time over getting smarter than what she already is. Buck and Luanne have a daughter they love, and are happy raising it in their own house. Offscreen, Bill picks up a frostbitten, old and moldy wedding cake from his fridge, smells the smoke, and throws it away. He is now free from depression over Lenore and has completely let go of her. Boomhauer’s job is finally revealed. Hank teases a potential follow up series saying Bobby has a future of grilling. Bobby picks up the last steak and says “Looks like this is the last one.”
Such a favorite of mine, great to put on in the background while doing other things and an easy watch. Takes me back to my childhood a lot and makes me miss how simple things were back then. Good old family values and no nonsense.

It was, funny without being dirty or depraved.
A good story knows when to end, while still hinting at what happens after it.
Peggy's last words: We might need more food, we've got company.
Hank's last words: Yep.
Bobby's last words: Yep.
Hank's first words: You're thinking of a Flat, Dale.
Peggy's first words: Now, don't you worry son, you just do your best.
Bobby's first words: How do I do that?
The funny part is, Dale, for all his conspiracy moments and anti-government sentiments; never realized he was speaking to a government worker for literal years.
Granted, he was talking to a Texas Ranger. Definitely not the same thing as the feds for multiple reasons.
He knew.
I think there were some fan theories that the Texas government sent Boomhauer to watch Dale, but its mostly just speculation.

Buck is a real piece of shit
Out of all the shit things he did in the show framing Hank for murder was a low even for him and I didn't get why Hank didn't leave his sorry ass behind.
I just now realized that Hank has most likely kicked a Texas Ranger's ass at some point.

Imagine living in a neighborhood where people were actually that close to you. I wish.
I've been a Texan all my life, and lived in Red Oak, Dallas, Baytown, Denton, and Lancaster, and none of which were the "rich" parts of town, but the friendliness was unbeatable. I've had random people help me replace an alternator on the side of the road, and a sweet Hispanic lady who didn't speak a lick of English gave me a bunch of Vietnamese pho, a big plate of barbacoa, and like 2 dozen tamales with a bunch of salsa. The ending was perfect but I wish they kept Bill's ending which showed him throwing away the old wedding cake he kept from his marriage to Lanore after he smelled the steaks. It was symbol of him finally letting go of his past and trying to be a better person.

"But what about Bill?" - Bill (probably)
@@ShamblesMD there was an extra scene planned for the ending, set between the Boomhauer scene and all the neighbors showing up. There’s still too many loose ends that weren’t really resolved. Dale should’ve found out about John redcorn. Bobby should’ve gone to high school. Hank should’ve been promoted to manager. Bill should’ve gotten married. Just to name a few. Could’ve made a great movie.

Not many shows have managed to pull off a perfect ending, I’m glad this show was able to do it.
The production team thought Luanne's wedding was going be the last episode and filmed a would-be final scene for that episode. It was very slap dash and featured many out of circulation background characters and a lot of one off characters like Junichiro and Anthony Page. It was weird and I'm glad they got to keeping going.

I really didn't get into KOTH until high school, where as I was teenager, I finally started understanding all the jokes in there, that's the magic about this show, it seems boring as a kid, but that's because kids just wouldn't get the jokes in here, let alone pay attention to the plain details of the characters

Love Bill, I love all of em.
Yeah it's sad they basically use the Principle Moss episode to show he "doesn't need anyone" when he finally gets everyone to move out and is happy all alone watching TV laughing. Should have had him attacked by Dale's falcon.
From putting ketchup on his dad’s “bland” steak to grilling like a pro with Hank, what a character arc for Bobby 👍.
This scene made me tear up after all those years of one of my favorite shows..

No it isn't. There's the scene where Bobby and Hank drive a golf cart down rainey st. singing "real American" after the credits.
