Singer / violinist Ada Pasternak is a rare talent that combines classical and jazz technique with a style all her own - watch her make her virtuosic PMJ debut! We were happy to see that PMJ's work on "Bioshock: Infinite" inspired the music on the HBO series, "Westworld," so here's a Western Saloon - style remake of Clean Bandit's "Rather Be."

Now I'm in love with BOTH versions, even though they're barely similar. Normally songs that are good because their modern elements don't translate well to PMJ, but DAMN they made this one work.

I will cheerfully take the correction. Something was different in the tone of the instrument, like it was slightly too deep. You just explained it to me..... so thank you! I get to learn something today.
It's not a viola. She just plays a lot on the lower strings, but she does use the E string during the interlude as the change in tone is quite obvious. It's probably a very mellow violin/strings/bow. Besides, the credits say violin, and I doubt they'd get that wrong haha.

I've listened to a lot of PMJ over the years. Scotty is in rare form on this one, damn! Don't know how I missed this one until 2023, but never too late for appreciating magic like this - PMJ kills every track that they cut in that tiny saloon set. Timeless genius!

The industry wants absolute control. They spent about 3 millions per artist to put them on the market. They don't want someone they can't control and lose their investments. If a person is truly talented they can't be easily replaced therefore cannot be controlled easily. Also they have trained majority of the consumer to enjoy very basic melodies so when they hear more complex music it causes anxiety. It's pretty sad.

Amazing! Not only is Ms Pasternak lovely and talented in singing and violin, she puts a sad longing into this song that makes the words become authentic emotions. Beautiful. But to top it off, Mr Richards and Mr Diller both look like they absolutely love being a part of this session. They can't hold back the smiles, and that's awesome. And Scott Bradlee, thanks again for giving a venue to such outstanding performers that they can really be passionate about their talents. But Scott, why don't you ever seem to smile?!

I love this a lot :) Ada's singing is really fresh!
However, I wouldn't call it Westworld style ;) it can pass for old western style, but the signature style of Westworld is slow, dreary, HEAVY piano, and this is "too" upbeat (well, it's just the right amount of up beat for the song if you ask me, but not for Westworld ;)).
