@Miszuda You're talking about NATURAL harmonics. Pinch harmonics are where you pluck the string with your pick and catch the string immediately after with the side of your thumb to get a higher pitch. What Alexi was doing are often referred to as squeals which can only be done with a tremolo. You place your middle finer on the harmonic, pluck the string with your index and quickly lift off and pull up with the whammy.
@cryan5280 That, what he does are tunes called pinch harmonics. he devides string by his right finger by slipping on it smothly. In the same time left hand is making the tunes:)
Years late, but in case you are still interested as far as I know the technique is called auto flanging. It's basically the same principle as fretting a note with your left hand and using a pick to create pinch harmonics, except that instead of picking with his right hand, Alexi is instead very lightly using his middle finger to barely touch the string and move it towards the bridge and then back to the neck in one smooth movement to artificially lengthen and then shorten the string while simultaneously hammering on and pulling off at speed with his left hand. This creates that really cool sound because with a pinch harmonic, according to WHERE you pick the string at the pickups it gives a different type of harmonic tone but you are just using ONE, whereas with this technique a whole range of harmonics are very quickly used in a smooth fluid movement to give that flanging effect. Really cool technique though, but its Alexi so what would you expect. One of the finest players of our generation no doubt and a brilliant musician.
he looks so damn old, and he is just 30 years (or something) old ... i think it caused by the stress, the touring around the world and drink continuous alkohol (i assume it) he shoult to take a break for one year and refresh his body and mind ^^
