    MMG ran 2011-2014. It seems afterwards we had Future, Thug, an Uzi changed the sound of rap. Meek was arguably on top before the Drake beef. People stopped wanting bars tho. Some of the MMG tracks from that time are still cold tho.

    • @natsusatsujinki8342
      @natsusatsujinki8342 2 года назад +1

      😆 dude said Meek was on top. When? Where? Drake. Kendrick Lamar. J Cole. Meek ain't been on top of rap/hip hop EVER

    • @Stacksonem
      @Stacksonem 2 года назад +5

      @@natsusatsujinki8342 Maybe you weren't outside, but Meek and Drake were fighting for #1 2012-2014 right before the beef at least in the East Coast. At the time, Drake was still getting made fun of for being wheelchair Jimmy, Meek had the streets on lock and was not being made fun of. Meek had the Dreamchaser 2 and Dreams and Nightmare out + a ton of features. I constantly heard his or Drakes music anywhere I went. After the song Levels, Meek and MMG, and then Drake finished him with back to back. After Ross' Mastermind album(which was a good one) MMG never was the same. The issue with Meek is that he wasn't versatile enough and people eventually got tired of the screaming rap.
      Cole only had Cole World and Born Sinner albums at that time, he was popular but not number 1. Forest Hills Drive is when Cole cemented himself within the top 5. He's never been #1 and doesn't care to be. Kendrick had GKMC at that time, he was making waves, but not #1 especially in the East Coast. Every concert i went to in the east coast, Meek was headlining. When it comes to Kendrick I was at a show at the Barclays Center and Kendrick was closing out the show, everyone began to leave once the set began. He definitely was not #1 at that time. Will admit though Kendrick drops classic albums GKMC, TPAB, and DAMN have all aged really well. And Kendrick never had to resort to the industry phoniness. Excited for his new album dropping soon.

    MMG era was imo the most fun era to be a hip hop fan in the last 15 years.
    1. the most hyped newcomers exploding at that time were all fire (meek, asap, kendrick, french, wale, big sean, cole...)
    2. the production was diverse and grandiose, whether it was the hardest of trap (lex luger etc) or so called real hip hop (go-go and similar beats)
    3. the older legends were happy to collab with the young stars, and it felt organic (jadakiss, lloyd banks come to mind), hopping on to the newschool beats rapping their ass off
    4. everybody was doing features, g-mixes, and remixes of popular songs (and those popular songs had the hardest beats)
    5. chicago drill also came onto the scene around that time, which introduced new dope sounds
    6. competitiveness when it comes to "who will come with best verses" still existed

      Meek Mills Dreamchasers mixtape was a classic to be honest, but he fell off after that. Wale and Stalley were actually really talented. They had a nice mixture of southern and east coast flows/beats, Meek Mill was their flagship artist and his inability to do a show outside of the US due to his legal troubles, and ongoing arrests and jail sentences ultimately stunted his growth.

    Can you do a video about Run-DMC I always believed they got stunted because the contract dispute with Profile delayed their 4 album by a year and the landscape had changed since the Raising Hell era.

    I think music big wigs WANT rap to be a young man’s game because an older artist isn’t as easy to finesse. Hip hop is old enough it’s about to get an AARP card. We gotta find ways to bridge the gap

    might sound crazy but i feel like mmg was aggressive with their branding, logos constantly being thrown at you started getting in the way of the music. Every video was a literal commerical. still a fan of spiff tv's videos though
