MMG ran 2011-2014. It seems afterwards we had Future, Thug, an Uzi changed the sound of rap. Meek was arguably on top before the Drake beef. People stopped wanting bars tho. Some of the MMG tracks from that time are still cold tho.
@@natsusatsujinki8342 Maybe you weren't outside, but Meek and Drake were fighting for #1 2012-2014 right before the beef at least in the East Coast. Meek had the Dreamchaser 2 and Dreams and Nightmare out + a ton of features. I constantly heard his or Drakes music anywhere I went. MMG era was imo the most fun era to be a hip hop fan in the last 15 years. 1. the most hyped newcomers exploding at that time were all fire (meek, asap, kendrick, french, wale, big sean, cole...) 2. the production was diverse and grandiose, whether it was the hardest of trap (lex luger etc) or so called real hip hop (go-go and similar beats) 3. the older legends were happy to collab with the young stars, and it felt organic (jadakiss, lloyd banks come to mind), hopping on to the newschool beats rapping their ass off 4. everybody was doing features, g-mixes, and remixes of popular songs (and those popular songs had the hardest beats) 5. chicago drill also came onto the scene around that time, which introduced new dope sounds 6. competitiveness when it comes to "who will come with best verses" still existed

Meek Mills Dreamchasers mixtape was a classic to be honest, but he fell off after that. Wale and Stalley were actually really talented. They had a nice mixture of southern and east coast flows/beats, Meek Mill was their flagship artist and his inability to do a show outside of the US due to his legal troubles, and ongoing arrests and jail sentences ultimately stunted his growth.

Ross did a very good job of balancing the label with serious lyricists. Stalley is still seriously underrated.
