Thanks for uploading this video. The timing is perfect as I need to overhaul my Granada’s a4ld. Thanks
How'd it go bud?
And am I the only nerd that has watched this all the way through while taking notes? Just curious 🤔
Odd to see a tech not wearing gloves. Thanks for uploading this.
Thanks, an excellent film about A4LD 👍
Automatic 4qrts leaked down
Also am I the only one that has the infamous a4ld fluid puke from Trans fluid temp getting to hot while driving down the highway?
Probably caused by overheating, possibly torque convertor and I wonder about a cooler issue but not sure about the latter.
Happened to me. Tranny seals blew and were replaced. Runs great but now I’m having delayed shifting from 2nd-3rd
Thx
Wish this included the diagnostic for the transmission stalling the vehicle when put in drive or reverse. That's my issues and I think it's the TC solenoid or the vacuum switch not operating correctly.
Now i know why I decided I never want to work on a auto-tragic transgression..Fawk me dead! I'll stick to normal 5 and 6 speed boxes, thank you.
Mine still shifts great with only periodic fluid and filter changes and of course, no abuse.
Today if there's a fault
Step 1) connect computer and do what it says if persists...
2) replace filter and fluid, if persists...
3) replace entire unit, if persists
4) tell customer it's their fault/ vehicle trait/ call manufacturers customer service department/ gfy.
Anyone have part # for the tools used?
Have one in my 1988 Ford Ranger
worst ford tranny ever made in my 1989 ford ranger v6 2.9 i put 4 tranny in......a4ld is a big no no
I haven't watched it yet, but I hope it will address overdrive. Mine seems sensitive, like it wants to keep dropping down to drive. Just had it rebuilt. It works fine, but it is a little annoying.
I need to drop my gearbox and replace it with another
On a Ford Explorer 1993 A4LD WHEN DRIVING DOWNHILL, THE ENGINE DOES NOT HOLD THE GEAR, we measured the pressure in the gearbox 15 bar gearbox so I'm wondering if anyone can help what to do next, what should we do next to solve that problem
You need to adjust your valves they’re too loose they’re not locking your locking band when it comes up. Making you lose your gear and making them “free” once again
WHAT IS THE ADJUSTING SCREW POINT? WHAT NUMBER?
Loosen locking jam nut, torque adjustment screw to 10ft-lb, then back out 2 turns (3.5 turns out for 4.0l engine) and while preventing adjustment screw from turning, tighten jam nut to 35-40ft-lb.
Same for both band adjusters.

I'm 50 next year and why ford why can't I be driving be updated version of the Granada all I see is the Kuga a car fit for Noddy
Mondeo?
Welcome to the SUV world.
We haven't had the Grenada in the States since the late 70's early 80's. It seems we both have to deal with the A4LD transmission. I'm not a fan of this transmission but I own a Bronco 2 so it's a necessary evil to learn how to work on it.
😂😂microfish. Seriously there’s probably someone who watched this then had to look up what that was. Back in the mid 80’s my mom worked for a company that did nothing but transfer info into microfish.
HELP US!!! HAHAH PERFECT VIDEO!!! PLEASE IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING ELSE SAVE US! WE CANT FIND ANYTHING !
My 85 Ford ranger has this shitty transmission it keeps blowing seals left and right pos
No wonder. It's almost 40 years old.
Front seal? The input bushing is worn out and/or the flexplate spacer is broken, allowing the torque converter to wobble.
@@dabnisbrickey6527no really this transmission loves to leak by the torque converter seal.
One of the worst Ford Automatic transmissions. This transmission loves to start to leak oil by the torque converter seal. Also It loves to go bad on Mustang and on Explorer and Ranger. Maybe this transmission was suitable just for 4 cylinder engines???
