Great video, still looks slightly intimidating for me to even attempt to work on one myself....and I'd have no idea what to look for as far as internal wear and damage anyhow LOL.
Had a 93 Ford Ranger that went through 2 of them, after having it rebuilt then having it fail again a couple years later got rid of the truck, I think the shop that did the rebuild didn't do very good work on it. I now have an 88 Ford Bronco 2 with the same transmission, when I got it, it had no overdrive. I had AAMCO rebuild it and its been almost 2 years now and no issues with it at all, from what they said they do all the updates and basically over-build it to make it more bulletproof. I sure hope so, its not cheap having them rebuilt. Lucked out too that the AAMCO I took it to has an old Ford Service Technician that works there so he did quite a bit of the work.

Bronco II, 1990 2.9 couldn't shift to 4x4 low, traced it to 4 pin safety switch, should be 5 pin switch so changed it. 4x4 low is working but now backup lights not working, they were working with 4 pin switch! ;)
So that's as far as I've looked into it, more investigation is needed but wondering if the switch actuator could be the incorrect version for 4x4, or maybe new switch is defective. Starts in neutral and park as it should, will be investigating further.
    Thanks! ;)

My e40d is more complicated than the adl4, because my transmission has heavy valves, and more difficult forward drums, especially when the direct drum has multiple washer sets, and also the intermediate gears have 75/100mm each-- therefore the reverse direct drum has to have those j180 type sun gears placed over the planetary gears, too.

On our 4×4 1987 Aerostar did this in 1996. It lasted 26k before the front seal leaked. Then I paid Shucks transmission to do it. They pulled it out 4 times for $1900 .2nd time was bad overdrive. 3rd time was broke plastic washer. 4th time was snap ring came off of hub because hub groove broke off. It again starting to pause before going into gear within a year of 4th rebuild. I did not want to bother Shucks again so we parked the van for 15 years. Now deciding what to do with it. 116,000 miles. 26,000 on $4400 engine. Borg warner 1350 transfer case mated to trany with custom housing. Dana 30 front axel from 1987 jeep wrangler . 4:10 gears.
