  • Hello and thank you for your patience! I hope this project was worth the wait for you! In this month’s farm vlog we make homemade herb salts with fresh herbs from the garden. I am planning to gift these to friends and family. It is a simple project with delicious results. Thank you for joining me. 🤎
Small note: I used 3 cups of fresh herbs and 3 cups of salt for each batch.
I use Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt but any other flaky salt such as Morton's Kosher would work well. I don't recommend table salt for this project

Thanks for sharing. Great idea. I get a coop produce box and sometimes we get herb bundles and most of the time they rot before we use them.I recently got molds to use to make herb butter to not waste and have herbs for later times. Definitely will try the salts as well. As for your next vlog, I would love to know all about your house goat, her room, how you manage sharing your space with her. I love goats as well, raised them for a couple years through FFA as a teen and keep thinking I want to get one now. We have a dog, cats, chickens, doves, and recently added baby quail. how much space does a goat need? lol

I'm so happy you found this inspirational! I love the idea of making herb butter! I should do that too.
Thank you for your suggestions! I can definitely share more about Phini/ having a house goat. Until then you can check out my Episode 7 (Q&A) if you haven't seen that yet, I talk a little about her story there. I also have a highlight on my Instagram profile talking about her journey. I haven't really discussed the logistics of her living with us before though. I can't say that I recommend it really. I personally feel like goats should live outside with other goats, as they seem happiest that way haha. Hopefully she will be joining the herd in the spring. It sounds like you have so many amazing creatures in your life. It must have been so special to raise FFA goats as a child. I was in 4-H for a while but we never had animals, besides cats when I was growing up. Anyway, I hope you have a nice week!

That's such a good gift idea! Thanks for showing us the process. And I hear you, that fine line between sticking to some sort of goal for accountability, and being human and giving ourselves grace and space, married with societal crapola that's ingrained in us... it's a lot. Sounds like you rolled with it all well in the end with this project 🤗💕

Oh I'm happy you liked it! It's nice because it's something that people will use up and everyone can use. Thank you for relating to my experience. It's definitely a complicated dance that we all have to navigate. Sometimes I feel like it's so much easier for some people than others. Either way we all just do our best. Thank you! I hope you have great week 🤎

Great idea Anne! I use my microwave to dry my herbs, and then mix them with the salt 😊 If you had more time I'd tell you to crochet little baskets for the trio, would make them look so cute in people kitchens... but as life happens to us all, I'm sure just wrapping them in some parchment paper with a nice bow would do the trick; remember, it's the thought that counts❤ Have a lovely week, take care😊

Ahh thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed. What a great way to make it work! I didn't know that you could dry things in the microwave! very clever. Oh crocheted baskets would be so sweet but alas like you said time haha. The paper is definitely the most likely path that I will take haha. You too! 🤎

I’ve been saving little glass yogurt jars to make simmer pot bundles for friends, I think I’ll use the extras to make salts with my herbs - this is a great idea!

Such a great use for the jars and a sweet gift! Last year my friend made those and it was so cozy and nice to put on the stove. Thank you for joining me.🤎

Thank you for today’s video. I don’t have a food dehydrator but will see if I can make some using dry herbs. And, bravo to you for cleaning all those jars! I know it’s easier to get new ones but then most likely you’ll find plastic ones. I’m so glad you’re recycling all those old ones ( and they’re cute looking!)
Oh, speaking of salt! Have you tried matcha salt? If not, I’ll definitely recommend you to try. You just whisk matcha and salt (or mixing them using mortar and pestle) , 1 tbs each or adjust to your liking. They are so good with fried fish, French fries, etc!
Love your chatty vlog❤ I’d love to hear about your favorite music, books and/or films😊

Hello! I'm sure you can do it with the dry herbs and it will be so good! I have not had matcha salt but I will soon! haha It sounds amazing. Two of my favorite things together. Thank you for your topic suggestions. I added them to my list 🤎

Thank you! I have made this many times with different herbs just for us to use and then suddenly realized it would be a super easy gift. It’s so nice to have flavored salt when cooking or even at the table. 🤎

Great video again (and a nice surprise because I forgot it was Friday!). I kind of wish I had people to gift things to who lived nearby and that I had the herb garden from my old house (all I have here is lavender and some rogue lemon balm that grows where it wants to!!).
Could you make your own baskets from some thick paper or thin card? I think there are some good tutorials around - the ones made from woven strips of paper come to mind, though it was a long time ago. Whatever you choose, I'm 100% certain the recipients are going to love those herbed salts 😊
Edited to add: And, yes! Every. Single. Day. I'm a gold medalist when it comes to putting pressure on myself, sadly. I'm slowly learning to enjoy the journey rather than rush towards the result (though the results are rewarding I think the journey probably should be too).

Thank you so much! I'm happy it was a nice surprise. ☺️ I really know how it is to miss gardens from an old home.
I love the idea of making paper baskets, maybe i'll give it a go. One option I didn't mention was to use the green paper containers we use to sell berries in, sort of related lol.
It's such a struggle to balance wanting to achieve and making it unpleasant for oneself. A game of balance. I like to think being aware of it is helpful at least. It's nice to hear that you relate. 🤎

I absolutely adore all your podcast/vlog. You do a lot of things, it's amazing and very interesting. For your gift,s maybe you can just wrap it in piece of fabric, as Japanese do. You should have old fabrics to reuse. And you know, I put too pressure on myself too... it's difficult for me to take care of me.

Thank you so much! I love the idea of wrapping them in fabric, and I'm sure you're correct that there are many scraps hanging around. It really is a difficult dance to manage all of the task in life. I appreciate you saying that you relate. We can only hope to be kinder to ourselves. 🤎

Isn't it so frustrating? It makes no sense because clearly they're being manufactured. Let me know if you ever find them and I will do the same. 🤎
