I am a naturopathic herbalist in Australia. Recently I converted our dining room into an Apothecary where I store over 100 herbs, kombucha, kefir, sourdough starter, kvass, glycerites, extracts, sauerkraut, mushrooms, sprouts and other things I am tinkering around with. We pulled most of the plants out of our garden and gave them away then planted over 45 herbs we commonly use to save on money. Much respect to you ❤❤ My favourites are Damiana, Willow Bark, Ashwagandha, Turmeric and Icelandic Moss.
@@badpepsi I outgrew the pantry with my herbs and we were not using the dining room so we pulled the table out and put that in another lounge room. We acquired 2nd hand shelving and other cupboards etc all on free local Facebook groups and over the course of the last 3 months have made it my apothecary and meditation space. It’s beautiful and rustic and all my favourite things are in there. My friends keep their jars and bottles for me in exchange for Booch (kombucha) or teas and it’s the best thing I have ever created.
After leaving America to my quaint little European village in the sun, I started my garden and built an apothecary in 2023. It continues to grow as I learn about herbs, spices, fruits, oils, etc. that work to prevent and help to heal ailments. Best thing I've ever done and will never rely on pharma or modern doctors and their toxins. Everything I consume is locally sourced, which makes a huge difference to my health and wellness. Thank you for this video, I look forward to taking notes!
I am proud of you for learning about herbs/plants for their medicinal properties. My people believe, the plants that grow each season are the plants we will need for medicine for that season. Twice I was prescribed manmade medicine and each time I had a serious reaction so I rely on holistic remedies, have a huge herb garden, and dry, freeze, store the herbs to have on hand when I need them. Fortunately I am healthy, but I use all my herbs, and share them, throughout the year.
@gazoakleychef - if you take the yarrow leaves, dry them then blend using a milling blade until it is powder - this acts as a quick clot for bleeding. Similar to “Quik Clot” that we got issued in the military or “Celox” but those two contain animal products so yarrow has a similar effect but from nature instead. Cayenne pepper can also be used for mild bleeds in the same way. Just powder either into wounds. Yarrow stings less. Just be mindful with any form of quick clot powder of wind direction, which is the main reason the military switched from powder to infused bandage versions. You can carry cayenne powder and yarrow powder in one of those pill keyrings for small emergencies.
Goodness Gaz & team! 🤩 Another amazing project from your creative heartfelt inspirations. 🦚 Mother Earth 🌎 appreciates your peaceful love bestowing balance & harmony. Thank you Gaz🦋❤🕊️💫
So inspiring, Gaz! My friend Camie and I are much older than you, but we are doing our best to get back to basics and reclaim control of our health. Thank you for sharing your life!
I have a seasonally allergy to sunflower pollen that is hard to avoid as I adore these beauties that volunteer offering perpetual food for my beloved wild bird population. Soooo- I was ever so thrilled when I harvested, brewed and drank blue elderberry tea to find my allergy symptoms immediately cleared up! Next year I need to save some dried to add to my homegrown herbal tea blend. Nettles are my #1 wellness staple!!🎯 Love this topic, Gaz!🙏 You’re the best!!!!!!💙🌱😘💚
I recently started an herb garden. It is so rewarding to grow your own medicine, especially as you age, because doctors love to prescribe over the counter medication to the elderly. I'm 71, and I'm refusing the medication. Doing my own research and studying. Thanks for sharing❤
I absolutely love the direction your life and content is taking, and is so nice to see you growing and changing. herbs are so special and powerful, I'd love to one day grow my own! Marshmallow root is very powerful for the digestive tract, for repairing the gut barrier and in cases of reflux to help soothe the lining of the oesophagus. I'm curious to know if you've ever grown / used mugworth?
It's worth mentioning that there is more than one type of skullcap and more than one type of echinacea. It is the root of echinacea that is specifically used for cold and flu. It is important that we know what part of the herb to use and what species to use.
Can't wait to watch this video ❤🥰 You inspire me to learn and be active in searching ways to heal and stay healthy. Lost my trust in regular medicine. When it comes to mental health issues I truly believe there must be herbs that can help like looking at good nutritious food. Thank you Gaz for sharing your knowledge and love at this subject.
Your videos are a constant source of joy. I have them playing in the background and replay them🤣. Loving your space , always inspirational and tranquil🙏🙏🙏
Ever gotten into flower essences by any chance? I feel like it would be right up your alley. I’m an avid user of such essences, and they work wonders for addressing emotional and energetic patterns in the body. For instance, the yarrow flower helps sensitive people stay more grounded. Would be fun for you to make them, too!
Wonderful video ❤ Blue vervain is another wonderful calming herb ... especially for high stress overachievers 🤣 and good for this time of year! Happy holidays 🌲
I love this episode. I use all those herbs, so it was nice to see my use of them be further validated. I also recommend yarrow root oil for healing peri-oral dermatitis. It healed my skin. With it after a particularly bad breakout.
Gaz, you have to visit australia and do a cooking series. Look up Australia Wildlife Sanctuary, Natural Bridge. Thats where i live. Ive lived all over Australia and this is where i ended up. Come visit us 🎉
Love your videos and your connection to nature. These are lost skills in todays generation and it’s so lovely to see your passion shine through. I’m definitely going to try some of these 😊
I know honey is not considered by many as vegan, but it’s good for burns, cuts and is anti-microbial and anti-bacterial. For the mullein leaf, yes it can be taken in other forms, but when smoked it actually heals the lungs and gets rid of excess mucus. Many of the herbs you are speaking of in this video are great and yes, oils and teas and tinctures as well as other methods are great for herbs and storage. For raspberry leaf it has to be red raspberry leaf and it’s good for women in all stages, it’s also used after women have babies in various forms and it helps with the cycle not just the symptoms before or after.
My day job is as a cancer researcher. There is absolutely a time and place for highly targeted medical therapies. But equally there’s a lot of preventative medicine in herbal remedies and essentially the science I do today grew out of the study of the natural world going back a few hundred years.
The brown liquid from the aloe plant of what some call Imodium in the natural community has been known to help with cancer also go with obviously cannabis which is also helpful with some of the symptoms and cell death.
@ yes absolutely but there’s a massive difference between killing cells in a controlled environment and turning that into a medicine. That’s where me and people like me come in.

Can I use any spirit, or does it need to be Vodka? Wonderful video btw, I sent it to my parents, my Mum grows so many herbs and various flowers, she has so many of the ones you mentioned, I just know it is going to really encourage her to make teas and tinctures herself, ty
EverClear if you have it, is good, but you have to look at the proof of the alcohol when using tinctures or if you decarboxylate it you need a higher proof alcohol. Some plants are better in oil form as some of the properties come out in fats which alcohols don’t have. The barks tend to work better in teas and tinctures like when doing Mamajuana which would use rum(Brugal which is a different flavor from traditional rum) and red wine, but for curing. The same barks in older recipes were mixed with other ingredients and done as a tea. If using willow for pain relief sometimes the tea is better like with headaches as the alcohol can worsen the pain, but with other types of pain the tinctures could work.
