Hello again. I want you to know that you have made an impact on my life. As I suffer through another series of colds and allergies, this is a timely episode. My Mother and Grandmother always used various herbs and oils for healing. These jewels of love and wisdom that they left almost skipped another generation. Thank you for all that you do.

Jennie! Darling, I'm so humbled by your words and I don't take them for granted. You may not realize this, but truly, I believe that the friends I am able to come across, which yes-includes you -even through a comment, is just as encouraging to me because well, I feel like if we would ever meet in person, we'd 'get' the other. I am so sorry to hear you have been under the weather and I am praying that you take good care and allow your body to rest as much as you can and nourish it with nourishing broths, soups and foods. What a gift to have herbal traditions taught to you directly from your mom and grandma! Girl, that's special and hold fast to it, because yes, these jewels of knowledge are becoming increasingly rare. I'm praying for your healing!

I put my elderberry syrup in smaller glass mason jars & put them in the freezer that way I can take 1 out when we have colds to use instead of having to use it up in 12 weeks

I make Mary’s Nest elderberry syrup, and with the cooked elderberries, rose hips, and hibiscus, after straining it, I put it into ice cube trays and freeze them, and use them for an extra cup of tea either hot or cold. There’s a lot of flavor left in those spent herbs, and it’s a good way to stretch it to get more out of it before putting it into the compost pile.

Hey Tammy! Aww, I'm so happy to hear this. Getting my herbs organized has been on the back burner for far too long. As you saw, I had multiple herbs packed in baggies in mason jars, but I couldn't quite figure out how I was going to pull off finding more space in our townhouse to properly store them. Now that I've gotten over not having "a nice china cabinet" and repurposed the hutch for a more practical space, I'm loving being able to see what I've got and the ease of using it (especially as we get further into the cold weather months). You needn't have the biggest collection of herbs because with just a few of them and common kitchen ingredients, you can truly create recipes that bolster your health. Hope you're having a great week!

My Nana used to give us what she called balm of Gilead buds that was steeped in alcohol for coughs and chest congestion. I found out that it has many other medicinal uses. I also believe it is actually the Cottonwood blossom or a close relation to it. This may be something else you can add to your apothecary.

Oh I am so pleased to hear this! It'll make your lips pucker, but taken once a day for preventative measures, or a 1-2 tablespoons every 3-4 hours if cold symptoms emerge is a great way to get a handle on something that could get worse and be treated with a much pricier, synthetic option. There are some amazing folk/herbal remedies that really work!

Sis, you just gave me a whole spankin! LOL I KNOW I need to get ALL not some of my herbs in glass jars. I have the basics in the jars but the rest are stored away in plastic bags in a dark cool place. Smh I have so many herbs, I need a wall of space to properly store them ALL and that is just not practical right now. All this video did was scream, make a way to me. LOL
I live by this and to back up what you are sharing with your viewers, I will share a quick testimony. I injured my foot/big toe and the doctor said, I did not injure it but there was no cartilage there. It was completely gone and I was bone on bone, which explained the level of pain I experienced. I was suppose to get two surgeries and I refused because I do NOT take medicine but I live doing exactly what you are doing in this video. TODAY, my doctor confirmed that I completely healed my foot. She was blown away at not only did I rebuild my cartilage but the toe was strong and all pain gone. It took me a little less than a year to get results. All she kept saying was: Oh my GOD, you really healed your foot, you should be proud of yourself.
Thank you for sharing doll! Be well and be safe!

This had significant positive impact on my life. I am 68 and have accumulated a ton of junk but enjoy gardening and making homemade teas, shampoo, conditioner, and salves from my herbs. This video inspired me to entirely replace an old buffet for a large spice cabinet, bought the labels, bought the wooden jar lids and a ton of clear plastic refrigerator containers that I’m still organizing with. So far I got my apothecary items, the spices, teas and small kitchen appliances organized. Then I moved onto the bathroom, another spice cabinet and just today I went through all my food storage containers and tossed everything that didn’t have a lid or Vice versa. Thank you so much for the inspiration and motivation to get going on this. Next, I’m making your recipes for homemade cereals. Hugs!!

That was lovely. I do make my own cough remedy medicine with all you used. Been using it for years and to me it work. I let it cook out of the fridge until I need to use it, never wet bad. Cassandra I love and appreciate your channel and I am looking forward to learn from you a lot more. I am 70 years young and I love my self so I eat very clean but I need to learn how to save money, fermentation , etc, yes I am behind. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays!

Hello sweet friend! I'm so happy to finally get my herbs organized and I couldn't agree more with you--folk medicine has excellent recipes that use a combination of kitchen ingredients you likely already have, made with herbs you can grow, or affordably source and they truly do bolster your wellness. You are right my friend, eating as clean as possible is the truest way to health. Thank you for such kind words!

Love your herbal cabinet. This was my year to forage, dehydrate, and store up. Also, I have grown quite a bit of herbs to dry and store away. I made my first Fire Cider. Also made powdered Fire Cider from the left over pulp and put some of the powder into capsules. I made Dandelion Salve and plaintain salve. Even made my first Apple Vinegar.
You're never too old to learn. I wished I had known about this years ago. All my kids are grown now. They don't get me wanting to raise chickens, have a garden, grow my own herbs, make my own tintures, etc. They are all on some sort of medication while I take nothing. Several years ago, I got sick with a nasty cough, ear infection, as well an eye infection. I went to the doctor, who gave me a special cough medicine that did nothing. I turned to the good old honey, lemon, and whiskey. For my eye, I made eye drops out of honey and water, which worked way better then eye drops from the store. (My first thought was honey in the eye!)

Wait- did you say that you powdered the fire cider pulp and put it into capsules? THIS IS GENIUS! Oh, I LOVE that idea and I'm totally doing do that. I cannot thank you enough for sharing that idea. You are right, one is never too 'old' to learn, and sometimes, you've got to ignore others opinions and simply live out your truth and hope that in time they'll see that the choices you are making truly have a benefit. What a blessing to not be on prescriptions. Like you, once you give these tried and true folk medicines a try you realize that, for many common ailments, they compete with anything you can buy. Plus, the peace of mind that comes with having a small pharmacy in your home (which was very common less than 100 years ago) is empowering in a way you can't describe. Well said my friend!

You said it Deborah--REAL books. A book you have have and hold in your hands means that you can reference it any time without worry if the internet is working, or if the website will load. Plus, there are so many books already published that have stood the test of time. Couldn't agree more. I have 4 herb book references I use (not a big collection, but enough to get me started) and I'm so glad they are part of our home library.

Love this and you're such a light for many of us! But also want to mention to people that sometimes, herbs and teas can't fix an ailment. I have a chronic disorder that's only managed by certain medications. Without them, I could die. However, I still love having natural remedies for things like common colds, headaches, etc. I'm a big believer in both eastern and western medicine, and they can co-exist together! I know you said that in your video but I just want to make it very clear for people who may think "natural fixes all". Thanks for sharing these recipes with us!

Wow, you got really fancy on your new Apothecary Cabinet. Love the jars and the purse. I just have my herbs in pint jars and tinctures in old preused bottles. That is a nice set up. It is fun to collect wild plants and dry them for the future. Love to make tinctures and teas. You could add Turkey Mullen to Your fire cider. It is the best herb for cold and flu symptoms. Your tea's look fruity and yummy. This is a top notch video. Thank you, Cassandra!

Hello Alice! This project has been on the back burner longer than I care to admit, but with summer fruit and vegetable canning season at a close and almost no demands from the garden, I finally got around to it. You are right, I did make a few 'cosmetic' purchases solely because this hutch is in a visible space (our living room) with glass doors vs. a cabinet. You are right, I should add Turkey Mullen to my fir cider! I'll give that a try on my next batch. Your words are incredibly encouraging and I don't take that for granted!

@@BecomingaFarmGirl Thanks, Cassandra! I love your jars and lids they are really nice. Dark bottles with eye droppers are very necessary unless you have a dark place to store your tinctures. I want to get the label tags you bought. I have tried the stick on labels and they peel off. My dream is to be as organized as you now are. Mine will include what each herb or wild plant can be used for. Having an herbal book near is handy. I am surprised how many uses some herb have. So for anyone to use the herbs, I want a list of what each herb is used for. Thank you, again!

Love your channel. Great info, thank you. Remember that Light, moisture, air and higher temperatures will all degrade edibles of any kind. So dark jars are good. For air, a food saver for jars works. I usually use oxygen remover & moisture remover packets from online. Really good video.

Hello friend, you are so right about this, and, over time I will purchase amber quart jars. Right now, I just used my reserve of canning jars, but amber glass is optimal. I also have oxygen removers so I can totally put your recommendation to use. Thank you!

11:32 the honey should be raw. Otherwise it will not ferment. Also be sure to burp the jar or use a fermentation lid. I suppose you could steep garlic & herbs in pasteurized honey but you'll get more benefits from raw honey fermented garlic.

😊We have so many different speices of the willow here in Alaska. I make my own asprin with the willow bark. Traditionally it is the white will bark that is used but all willow have the compounds and the power of the willow bark is root growing powder. I have an apothecary for over 50 years and make all my over the counter medicines and more. Many salves made from the cottonwood we pray for high winds to bring the braches down in the spring for the sticky buds make medicinal salves, add in the cayanne and it helps with arthritus. Arnica grows wild here we gather it for pain make tea, dry for the capsels and a tincture depending on the need. I purchased a piteba oil press for pressing different oils. Collect the wild for teas like labadore and fireweed. So much to discuss on this not enough time or space to do so. Thankyou for sharing your apothecary with us.
