    Let me Thank you for the way you made this video! Sometimes I feel hopeless about some creators because they loose the point why we click on a video and that is get the most descriptive idea about something. It's a long video but every minute was worth it!
    Thank you because I feel like I don't need to go and click on any other video.
    Well Done!

    Awesome video! I have the Sennheiser MD 46 that I learned (thanks to you) doesn't need phantom power. But I get more hissing when I increase the gain on the camera vs. when I increase the gain on the preamp. Can you recommend a device with a XLR connector & headphone output that has gain adjustment but doesn't have phantom power? Or should I just connect the mic directly into the camera? What should I do? I just wanna know if I am making the most of the mic. I previously had the IK Multimedia iRig Pre 2.

    once again love your videos. question. when you record do you record to -12 and edit to -6? etc? When i record directly into my Rodecaster Duo i notice when i pop the audio into final cut pro its usually like -20. I can never get -12 out of the RCD internal recording.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Месяц назад +1

      It depends on the mic/eq/etc, but sometimes I do need to boost my audio levels in FCP (I record everything at about -12 on the RCP). If that happens, I usually add a "Channel EQ" audio effect and then boost the gain tabour +5dB. From there I can fine tune the regular audio track until it's right within that -6 to -12 range 👍

    • @screensanctum
      @screensanctum Месяц назад

      @@tombuck i can never get the internal RCD audio that high. next time ill try brinigin the fader way up. i keep the fader at the thick bar that rode suggests. ill keep trying. i mean i never need to use it because i record into my ZVE1 but sometimes i forget to plug my cable into my camera lol so would THEN use the backup. Please answer this as I really trust your opinion:
    1. Rode podmic USB/Shure MV7+ or
    2. Rode Shotgun Videomic NTG
    or
    3. Rode NT USB
    I shoot with iphone but will use the USB option to record sound on laptop. I have used Hollyland Mark 2, Fifine K678, budget wireless mics but never got the desired studio quality sound! There are so many options available, its really really confusing and can invest in an expensive mic only once now. Its very hard to decide. Please help and suggest 🙏 😢
    Something imp to note: I keep my iPhone at a distance of approx 2.5 foot [32-35 inch] and I have a thin, soft voice hence need more bass in my voice. Please assist to make a choice.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  Месяц назад +1

      Hey! These are all just my personal opinions, but here ya go:
      1. MV7+
      2. Videomic NTG if you don't want a mic in frame
      3. The Nt-USB+ is a great sounding mic, but it's the least versatile. The Videomic NTG gives you the shotgun option, but can also be used up close, and can be mounted to a camera. The MV7+ has an XLR connection if you ever want to try out an XLR interface in the future.

    • @BigScreenReviews
      @BigScreenReviews Месяц назад

      @@tombuck Thank you so much....will go for the NTG as I really don't want a mic up close all the time in front of my face. What the NTG can also do for me is that I can really really boom it up close at an angle (really close) because I use capcut cut-out with a fixed fake background in my videos, hence it won't be even visible! Also a shotgun provides the versatility to record videos without sitting at one place. I really appreciate that you took the time to read and reply. Thanks once again :)

    Hi There! I watch most, if not all, of your videos! I'm wondering if you can answer a question for me, I want to start a podcast with two other people, the only way we can all get together is over a Discord call. If all three of us are on the same call, how would you recommend splitting out the audio for recording? Would this be a hardware or software solution? From what I can tell, the best practice is to ensure our three voices are recorded separately.

    about a year and a half ago, apple made an update that puts their microphone in the top right of the screen on your laptop (think like in the header area). Anyway, since that update I’ve always had to “hack” a fix (basically disable that functionality.. in the mac boot up (basically registry). to get my Sony ax5500 to work (using the sony software).
    This is still an issue. sony hasn’t seemed to give a firmware fix (ever), and apple blames Sony for being “late to the show” so to speak..
    I said that just to say this.. i love my mac(s). but its hard to buy software (ecamm) that only supports mac.
    That’s the only thing keeping me from ecamm.. (whereas, i’ve shifted to my win laptop until the dysfunctional issues have been resolved).
    but i would love to try ecamm ;(
