This was very helpful. Lid switch broke when I opened l lid to add one last item to a load of laundry. The machine was full of water and this allowed me to finish washcycle. Thanks again.

I just take the positive and negative wires off of the switch and tape them together...voila! (keep the ground screwed to the washer body, shouldn't need to bother it at all, it's usually a green wire. My method avoids all that unscrewing the top panel and trying to move it around. My washroom is quite cramped and the method I made up worked perfectly.

Thanks for the video. Question for you- I have replaced my washer's lid switch 3 times now over the past year. Each time, the washer works for a few months, and then I end up replacing the switch. At this point, I'm doing this work around that you have here and going to just leave it. Any idea why multiple switches would continue to fail? The washer gets used at least twice a day, so maybe it's just heavy use? Seems odd for an enclosed switch to continually fail.

how does the switch work? My WTW5300SQO (old machine lol) doesn't have an activator pin anywhere, so does the switch sense pressure or weight or something else?

For those with four wires...........If you know the sequence of operation of the washer you only need one switch. A simple toggle switch works great. Here's how.
The white and blue wire, connect together on one terminal of the toggle switch, lid closed. The red wire connect to the other terminal on the toggle switch.
Washer sequence, is sensing lid locks, turn toggle on. The next stage is the washer will unlock the lid, the lid lock led will flash, turn toggle switch off. You will then hear a click, turn toggle back on, lid locked. Works great!
Cap the yellow wire you don't need it. I looked everywhere and I tried everything. This really works!!

Thanks, this proved invaluable just now. Washed a super heavy oversize kind duvet and it wouldn't drain or after the initial agitation cycle. Ordered a new switch and then found this. Took 7 minutes without moving the washer and having cramped space to work in. Drain and spin worked a treat.
I can finish this laundry and whatever else comes along while I wait for the new switch to arrive. It's raining out and my dogs are using their reusable pee pads so I really appreciate your help lol.

  • @shaneama1982

For a quick TEMPORARY fix until you receive your new lid switch, and testing only! you can use what's called a vampire tap easily found at auto parts stores to bridge the white and grey wires. Caution: the drum and agitator will continue to spin with lid open, not safe. Applies to almost any safety switch but
this is for test of switch only! Also wrap vampire tap joint thoroughly with electrical tape. If you are unsure DO NOT do it.
