Measurements (for me but feel free to use)
    1 egg yolk
    3 tbsp sugar
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ¼ cup cornstarch
    1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
    1⅓ cup milk
    1 cheese slice (optional)
Mix everything and heat on medium-low heat till it thickens up real good. Put in some plastic container and refrigerate for 2 hours or until set. Take it out. Cut it into desired shape. Fry with butter. Enjoy.

    • @panda177
      @panda177 3 года назад +55

@@mashypotato6070 It was delicious! I would rate it a 9/10. They were sweet and a bit salty. The texture was really creamy in the inside with a little crunch on the outside. One thing I would recommend is that maybe put in like one tbsp more cornstarch bec mine weren't as solid so it was kinda hard to bake them. I also put in one tbsp extra sugar to make them sweeter. And also the cheese was really hard to dissolve so I ended up with cheese bits in mine lol. So I wouldn't recommend putting that in. Otherwise I totally recommend making them, they make a great snack :)

I'm planning on trying it this evening, it looks so good! I'll update how it comes out :)
Update: I made it, and while. it turned out good there were a few issues, though I think that was primarily my fault not the recipes. It ended out coming extremely soft because I think I put a different kind and texture of cheese, so I couldn't fry it and it caused a stranger texture. Again, not the recipes fault, just mine. Other than that, it was pretty good. One thing I would say is you have to put it a little higher on the stovetop because it took forever to heat up, so I would say about a 5, 6 at most, is a good temperature. And find a suitable container, keep in mind that whatever you put in the container, that will be the height and length of it. There was less than I expected but I chose a container that made it longer and much thinner. Since i wasn't able to fry it, I didn't get the same experience, so be sure to not make the same mistake and be conscientious on the amount, along with the type of cheese added.
It was a pretty good recepi overall though, I reccommend it!

Planning on making this soon. Will update on how it turns out!
I made 2 batches, they're currently setting in the fridge. I tasted some of it before I put it to set. It kind of just tasted like sweet corn, which I'm not sure if thats right. I think I mightve got the measurements wrong, despite following whats in the video. Maybe next time I'll use potato starch, if I can get that ingredient soon.
I'll fry it soon. Hopefully it doesn't just melt like some comments said. ^^

  • @lila133

Right I'm gonna keep a little diary as I go!
    1. first mistake- I didn't check my ingredients. I went to add the cornflour then realised I had none! but I had the yolk and sugar in a pan and didn't want to waste it. So I used 45g of plain white flour. Im a little scared that this makes the recipe sound more like pancake batter than custard, but we'll see.
    2. Finished making the custard! It had the same consistency as the video, although not as yellow (but I left out the cheese because just why)
    It's looking hopeful so far!
    3. Got it out the fridge, looks similar to the video version. I saw another comment recommending dusting the cubes with sugar before cooking, so I did. The little pieces got stuck to the pan - every time I tried flipping them the nice fried bit would be left on the pan and the pieces just looked really sad.
    4. I turned of the gas and put the cubes back on the plate (they weren't fried). I got frustrated because I'd used so many ingredients and it just wasn't working.
    5. I didn't want to waste it, so I put the cubes in a bowl and mashed them up. I added a lot more milk, a little more flour, and another egg.
    6. I whizzed this all up to resemble a pancake mixture. I then made pancakes with it! They were a different consistency to normal pancakes- more crispy and tough (probably because of the sugar content and also because I was basically cooking a pre - cooked sauce).
However, they tasted good and I was glad I hadn't wasted all that food.
Moral of the story: check your ingredients!
