  • Black Uhuru has had many faces but the greatest lineup of the group was the third incarnation of Duckie Simpson, Puma Jones and Michael Rose. They revitalised the reggae scene and lit up the darkness cast by the death of Bob Marley.

Saw them live at Radio City Music Hall here in NTC. It was Bunny Wailer's first American tour and when he opened with The Old Dragon it was one of the greatest musical moments I've ever been a part of. Black Uhuru was great as were The Heptones. Quite a lineup I would say. I bought tickets for me and my gf the first day the box office opened. Fourth row center!! You best believe were in heaven.

I was at the Rainbow theatre in Finsbury Park 1981 aged15, to see this Black Uhuru line up live, backed by Sly & Robbie. Fantastic. Never forget that night. Even though I was next to the speakers and my left ear has never been quite the same. My dad drove me and my friend from Cambridge. In hindsight very dedicated of him. When we came out he was in deep conversation with a dread who initiatially had mistaken him for a plain clothes police:) Happy memories.

Although all iterations of Black Uhuru are incredible (at least up until the album _Now_ , as I've not listened to all the more contemporary versions of the band) I hold the position that Brutal and it's dubs are their _magnum opus_ .... I mean Mountain Dub is absolutely mind blowingly stellar 😵
The whole dub compilation is probably the best dub album ever compiled...
    Yes opinions...
... also I believe they were never as good after Puma left this world and jumped into eternity...
    ... and those are mine.
Side Note 😁 : I also believe that Aswad's Dub Fire is thee greatest dub ever conceived and executed. FULL STOP
Much peace, grace and love to all the strugglers all over the world.
    God bless you and yours...
