Yes! I just learned about Martin Šmid after watching a Vypravej episode. This quizzes give me a good excuse to look up each of the people they mention.
Actually, Jan Opletal died six days prior (on 11th). He was buried on 15th, where the funeral ended up being a demonstration against the nazi oppressors. On 17th, the universities were closed and several people were executed. That said, it is right for the most part, and while both were students who died in their protest, which is the trick part, Jan Opletal was killed by Nazis where Jan Palach immolated himself in a protest against communist "normalization", cementing the totality. As for the exact timeline though, I had to Google it.

Hey Jen I am 100% sure you will pass the citizenship test you were doing great even in those other quiz videos. So just wanna say I LOVE your content! keep it up, my vinohrady neigbour :D
👍👍👍Test dáte levou zadní. Skvěle přečtená čísla. Dobře vybalancována plynulost x přesnost projevu😁Oba mluvíte česky moc hezky. Tip: pro 20.stoleti jsou typické české osudové osmicky-1918,1938,1948,1968; a sem tam nějaká devítka 1939,1969,1989. Stalin zemřel v 1953,stejně jako Gottwald.
I recommend playing the film "Pelíšky". It deals with the time during the communists and the year 1968 when Russian tanks invaded the Czech Republic. It's filmed nicely and like a comedy :-) Only some phrases are probably unknown to foreigners. For example, we know them from the stories of parents who lived at the time :-)
Hi Jana, I really like that film and have seen it a few times. I'm still parsing through all the meanings, but I'm sure I'll watch it again! Perhaps this time with English subtitles 🤓
@@DreamPrague I would like to see a review from you, like you did for the "Starci na chmelu". Interestingly, lot of foreign people do not get this Czech masterpiece at all. I guess the humour is not for everyone.
@@DreamPrague I'm at the Home Office, so I can do other things with it, like cooking, washing and listening to music. I won't overwork 😆 I have a looser mode. My boss asked me today if I am boring. I can close it at 6 o'clock, and in that I received a notification.😉
Part 3, yay, you made my day better. One question, I watched review on Starci na chmelu. It was amazing, would you consider to do more movies (prety please)? I know, 'm annoying with this (I probably once wrote it already) (I could also sugest aome titles, my favourite would be Limonádový Joe, than Spalovač mrtvol or any movie written by Miloš Macourek, for example Pane vy jste vdova). I hope you anjoyed victory of USA U20 tem in the championship final this morning. And of course happy new year
@@DreamPrague Hi Jen, you should definitely see movie Pelíšky (set in 1967-1968). I bet you have already seen it, but in case you did not, do so. It is a masterpiece!
11:42 - If you'd like to get to know an absolutely crazy point of history, then make sure you do some research about the invasion. Czechoslovakia was a part of the Warsaw Pact. But despite that our "allies" (mostly Soviets, Poles and Hungarians) decided to invade the ccountry, simply becouse they didn't like that the local politicians wanted a less strict form of communist government. On the other hand, at least the Romanians and Albanians refused to take part in the invasion. That's the same as if today the USA together with Germany and France decided to invade Great Britain (their NATO ally), just becouse they didn't like the idea of the Brits leaving the EU or some other minor reason.
They didn't decide, it was ordered from Moscow. Russians and Ukrainians were told they are going to Germany. Poles knew where they are going (like our neighbors they had to know that) so many of them pretended malfunctions on vehicles etc...also many of them actually helped to to protesters, there is known case when Polish soldiers didn't destroy anti communistic radio transmitter and pretended they could not find where it is, we should be glad to them for that. Also few Warsaw Pact countries refused go here, I think it was Albania and Romania.
@Jen - Pelíšky takes place in 1968. Such a difficult time. My father was born in August 1948 (the son of a farmer who had a large farm and fields) - some months after the communist invasion. Due to being a kulak child (kulak = farmer), he was not allowed to go to the schools he wanted, their farm was confiscated in the mid 1950s and grandfather was put in jail for 2 years, but then 1968 Prague Spring came and they accepted my father into university. Then August 1968 came and everything went downhill again. My parents decided to emmigrate.
You are doing so well in czech 👌👌👌are these actual questions for citizenship test??

Jen! Ten hokejový dres Vám moc sluší Oba 2 jste skvělí a přeji Vám,aby jste uspěli Naše země (druhá nejhomogenní po Islandu),potřebuje lidi jako jste Vy Jste pro naši zemi přínosem
It's literally the same: Při - bliž - ně = A(p) - proxima - tely, in Latin 'proxima' = nejbližši, also our the nearest star is called Proxima (Centauri).
One hint for Honza we became a Socialistic Republic in 1960 when our parlament passed the new constitution. This constitution also changed Czechoslovakia in to federation of Czech and Slovakian state.
@@DreamPrague You're wellcome. You called him a law geek in Brno episode down you find a link to the 1960 constitution for him to read (in Czech). Especially the prologue is basicly Communist propaganda writen in legal document. www.psp.cz/docs/texts/constitution_1960.html And btw.: This constitution lad a wave of new legislation from whitch 1963 Civil procedure code is still in use today.
You did it very well. Even to many young people who was born in Czech republic wouldn't know these questions which is shameless. By the way your pronunciation is also very nice.
You are doing great... You know more than some Czechs... I got a fun fact for you - The armies of Warsaw pact (mostly russian) invaded us on 21st of August 1968 and on the 21st of August 2008, our famous spear(wo)man Barbora Špotáková won a good medal at the Summer Olympics, setting new world record and winning over, at that time leading Russian Mariya Abakumova. This win was for a lot of Czechs as great as eliminating Russia in Nagano 1998. Czech band Tři sestry has a song about Barbora's winning called Čtvrtá sestra.
Hahah, way to go guys. Fingers crossed for you in future tests (or, as Czechs would say, holding thumbs for you). No worries about your numbers pronunciation, you are actually pretty decent :) Also, Honza's mistake was sooooo undestandable (provided it wasn't actually letters mix up). In the minds of communist of the day, "communism" was like nirvana for buddhists: a final goal to aspire to, but not being there quite yet. Hence them calling everything "socialist" left and right rather than "communist," e.g. "Czechoslovak Socialist Republic." Looking forward to your next entry!
I really like you both and when I saw that, I just need to clarify few things, so you will know also why is it like that. 3:05: As mentioned, the state was called Czechoslovak Socialist Republic however the party in charge was named Communist Party. They justified it as we are building communism through socialism (socialism: you obtain what you need, communism: you obtain what you want). Reality was far away from that promises... 8:44: the question was "Name the document". Charta77 is group of people which created a document called "Několik vět". Member of that group was Vaclav Havel and others. And I know how you feel when reading numbers. I think it's the same feeling like when I'm trying to read numbers in french (and I'm Czech) :D Stay healthy and happy :)
"Charta 77 byla neformální československá občanská iniciativa, která kritizovala „politickou i státní moc“ za nedodržování lidských a občanských práv, k jejichž dodržování se ČSSR zavázala při podpisu Závěrečného aktu Konference o bezpečnosti a spolupráci v Evropě (KBSE) v Helsinkách. Iniciativa působila v letech 1977 až 1992. Dokument (Charta 77) je pojmenován podle data z 1. ledna 1977."
Well done, guys! :) Your knowledge of Czechia and also your pronunciation skills are getting better! I have a strong appeal towards you though. Please, if you haven´t seen these 2 Czech-Slovak mini-series yet, you definitely should - they will tell you a lot about the Czechoslovak history: the first one which is called "Burning Bush/Hořící keř" is about Jan Palach´s death (obviously not your former president Bush... dark humour, sorry :D ) and the second is called "Bez vědomí/The Sleepers" which is more fictional but nicely decribes the era of communism and practices of the State police/StB... except the fact that these films tell you a lot about the Czechoslovak history, they truly have an artistically high value. So please, check it out and enjoy! ;)

Another really entertaining episode. Great job with the results, too! :-)
I just got a notification that Jen released a new video, time to finish work and go watch. The quiz is here, it will be fun. 👏
You're great! Thanks for always tuning in! And don't work too hard ;)
@@DreamPrague I'm at the Home Office, so I can do other things with it, like cooking, washing and listening to music. I won't overwork 😆 I have a looser mode. My boss asked me today if I am boring. I can close it at 6 o'clock, and in that I received a notification.😉
I recommended watching ‘unbearable lightness of being’ with Juliette Binoche. (Re 1968 )
And of course happy new year
Thanks Roman, I will put these movies on my list!
@@DreamPrague Hi Jen, you should definitely see movie Pelíšky (set in 1967-1968). I bet you have already seen it, but in case you did not, do so. It is a masterpiece!
Oh, I would LOVE to see the "Limonadovy Joe" review :-D
Many good luck both of you. Cesi👍🤝
Jenn! Have you been watching the junior hockey championship? Because that hockey dress is ON POINT! great stuff keep it up
I am so proud that someone is interested in my nation's history... And I know it is a little absurd. But still, I am happy ;-)
It's a fascinating culture!
Guys, i love you both. Velký palec nahoru:)
Hi Jen. My husband and I enjoy your videos; these citizenship question videos great. Wondering.... have you seen the Czech film "Pelíšky"?
We have! It’s great and very funny.
You are awesome people.
You’re sweet.
Sem myslel, že Honza pije kofolu :-).
😂
Actually, your reading numbers is pretty impressive. Thumbs up!
You are doing so well in czech 👌👌👌are these actual questions for citizenship test??
Jen!
Ten hokejový dres Vám moc sluší
Oba 2 jste skvělí a přeji Vám,aby jste uspěli
(Ivane??) 🤗
Oba dva jste skvělí, vždy se těším na tvá videa :) kdy vás čekají zkoušky?
Cool ! Great Job !
1:36 They should give you honorary citizenship for this alone. You have become fully Czechnized👍
U R THE BEST!!!!! Quite a level, to be honest.....
Přibližně - approximately
ohhhhhhh, thank you!
@@DreamPrague It has the same meaning as "zhruba" but "zhruba" is informal
@@DreamPrague Also "nearly" as "z daleka i blizka" is "from near and far" (apparently, in Czech those from afar arrive first...)
It's literally the same: Při - bliž - ně = A(p) - proxima - tely, in Latin 'proxima' = nejbližši, also our the nearest star is called Proxima (Centauri).
I really enjoy your struggles with pronunciation to be honest :) Good luck with your studies
Hey, it's entertaining! We're trying to improve though 😜
@@DreamPrague And you are doing great. 👌
Dali ste to na pána. Super. :-)
One hint for Honza we became a Socialistic Republic in 1960 when our parlament passed the new constitution. This constitution also changed Czechoslovakia in to federation of Czech and Slovakian state.
I'll pass it along, thanks!
@@DreamPrague You're wellcome. You called him a law geek in Brno episode down you find a link to the 1960 constitution for him to read (in Czech). Especially the prologue is basicly Communist propaganda writen in legal document.
www.psp.cz/docs/texts/constitution_1960.html
And btw.: This constitution lad a wave of new legislation from whitch 1963 Civil procedure code is still in use today.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Hahah, way to go guys. Fingers crossed for you in future tests (or, as Czechs would say, holding thumbs for you). No worries about your numbers pronunciation, you are actually pretty decent :)
Also, Honza's mistake was sooooo undestandable (provided it wasn't actually letters mix up). In the minds of communist of the day, "communism" was like nirvana for buddhists: a final goal to aspire to, but not being there quite yet. Hence them calling everything "socialist" left and right rather than "communist," e.g. "Czechoslovak Socialist Republic."
Looking forward to your next entry!
Perfektní, gratuluju! Já měla stejný výsledek jako Jen :)
šikulka!
Nice one bruva :-D
What about review of Czecho-Slovak Christmas films? Who's favourite?
Well done. I look forward to seeing you showing us your brand new Czech ID cards soon. :-)
That idea makes me happy too!
Im relieved to find I got them all right - without the options! Phew!
Jen, you are perfect 👍
Hezky přečítáte výsledky, jen co je pravda. Mimochodem Jen, kdy se konečně naučíte česky? Děkuji Vám za Vaši odpověď. PS: Jinak Vám fandím.
Jen, you have a great taste in beer :-D Not sure if I can say the same about Honza...
Doporučuji nepoužívat krkolomné germanizmy "devatenáctset ..." a místo toho používat "tisíc devětset ...".
Zichovec! ❤️
Jo Zichovec je skvělý!
After what happened yesterday , I think that now is the best time for you two to become CZ citizens.
I think it's the same feeling like when I'm trying to read numbers in french (and I'm Czech) :D
Stay healthy and happy :)
So please, check it out and enjoy! ;)
Já bych ještě přidal film Masaryk, Milada a seriál Zdivočelá země.
Výborně! Myslím že i dost Čechů si rádo test s Vámi zkusí. Honza dělá v češtině velké pokroky, za chvilku bude Jen doučovat!!! :- ))
Btw Dark Kozel i Zichovec - dobrá volba! - Kdyby se Jen chtěla trochu "zpumprlíkovat" (can you say that? :- ) ) tak ať zkusí Zichovec 15° Magor :- )
Chutná mi Zichovec 15 Magor. Mňam.
Jste skvělí! Gratuluji!
Děkuji a krásný nový rok 🙂
Lepšíte se, oba! :)
Good job!
Beer, Czech ice hockey jersey..how more Czech could you be? U guys are awesome!
I love how the test clearly states 1948 - 1989 yet there were options to answer with years 1918 or 1939 :D
Dark beer I recomanded Cerna Barbora, very tasty beer :) 5. question: movie Rebelove.
I've heard of that beer...will definitely try to find it!
Jen, strašně ti to tady sluší! (y)
A dost ti fandím. Každopádně jen tak dál a přeji hodně štěstí do budoucna.------ I follow your work, you can say from the beginning. And I'm a big fan of you. This is a drop off topic, but I'd like to recommend a hike in the footsteps of the game "Kingdom Come Deliverance" at this not much time. The game is from the Middle Ages and is based on real events and places in the Czech Kingdom. You might like it .... Anyway, just keep going and wish you good luck in the future...... translokator
Děkuji za típ!
Different beers this time! 😄
Really tasty ones too.
Hi Jen. Číslovky i ty řadové už vám jdou skvěle i ř. Klobouček i za znalost dějin.
u r amazing ... movie Pelisky is about 1968
A zcela oprávněně. Minulej režim fakt nebyl jen o zasranejch a v podstatě bezvýznamenjch disidentech.
WooHoo! Guys, you are better and better every time! Well done! You deserve your cold beer and warm dinner today!! :-)
Thank you so much 😀
Oba,mluvite pěkně Česky. 8)) Gratuluji,jsem na vás hrdý 8))
