I was on the "fence" about a RING doorbell, but this video sold me! Going to Best Buy tomorrow to buy one!
Don't do it, huge waste of money, easily hacked, have to pay a subscription to maintain videos, did i mention easily hacked? Had it for 2 weeks before returning it

My brother and his girlfriend were actually standing outside and talking about a special surprise for me for my birthday and I eavesdropped accidentally and Ik I shouldn’t have but they didn’t actually speak about it fully because they knew I was eavesdropping
After just 2 years of continuous use, my front Ring doorbell camera was not capturing images anymore, just completely dark, even after. Ring support did a more than an hour troubleshooting diagnostic efforts. Ring ultimately decided the camera was beyond repair and gave me instead a half price discount coupon for the purchase of a new one. Well, because, while it was working well, this product provided me much feeling of security being able to view even from far away who is by my door, I bought the more advanced Ring doorbell product and give it another try. Hopefully my original purchase just happened to be a Lemon.
Wouldn't it be nice to put a alarm siren for suspicious or burglary attempt. You see someone trying to get in or picking the locks and push panic button and a siren sounds on the front porch. Boom. I better get paid for my idea. Lmao
They've implemented a siren in their Floodlight Cam that was recently released. It would be a great addition to their doorbell as well though!

I got a ring door bell fitted last year.... unfortunately it did not stop my house being burgled as they came round the back and broke in through the patio door, I have now had security gates fitted to my doors and windows.
First of all, just making a note that I am in IT. Decided to purchase the original Ring Video Bell from best buy. 2 hours later, it still won't connect to WIFI to complete the setup. Tried it on Andriod, Iphone , WIndows 10, OSX El Capitan. Its a no go. It fails every time when your setup APP switches from the temporary wifi back to your own WIFI to complete the setup. What a waste of time. 5 minute setup ? I am afraid not. Loved how they only include the French version of the instructions in the package …lol but that is only a minor problem. I am packing this product up as we speak and back to Best buy it goes. Experience is less than spectacular that is for sure. Good luck to the rest of you. Going to give the other door bell products a try. Now I am Contemplating whether I should even bother with the Stick up cam.
Just before putting the hardware back into its original box for the return, my stubborn self decided to try it again 5 more times. It finally worked and was able to complete it's setup. I don't have an explanation for what happened but I can only assume that this device's wifi component is sensitive with specific access points.
It would be a game changer if there was a microSD card that saved a couple minutes of video (and maybe audio) each time motion was detected or someone pressed the doorbell.
Things people need to know:
The battery with motion will not last long in anywhere busy. (mine lasted 5 days)
If you HARDWIRE get a doorbell kit, and check the amps, it MUST BE AC OUTPUT
Without a doorbell kit, good luck because you will need to order off an american company which is painfully confusing for a resistor (unless you intend to burn the home down by shorting out the transformer) The part is:

I have it and love it! And something like you said it wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have it but now I can't see myself not having it lol

Great review! The thing I really like about the Ring doorbell camera is that unlike with most of the other doorbell cameras out there, having an existing doorbell (wiring) in place is not a necessity. It's good to have that battery option however, as mentioned in the video, it's ideal to connect it to your existing doorbell wiring so that it remains charged throughout.
If you live in the upper mid-west, don't bother purchasing it. The cold winters drain the battery in no time, even when its fully charged and hardwired. The app is buggy too. Another minus is you're conned into subscribing to watch your own recordings! After a months free trial, its time to cough up.... after spending 200 bucks they still want your hard earned cash.
Buy it from costco get year free could but just bought in store. WARNNING ever video shows front door at street level. My door is 4 feet above that and i think its sensor might see 30 feet out but not sure the hight it covers

My doorbell had problems with the hardwire where it doesn’t receive power and using the internal battery update I replaced the doorbell with the ring doorbell 2 and I wired the original on my battery power that totaled 12v and it started to work drawing power from the hardwire but I already had changed the doorbell

just ordered the product it sounds good, the reviews look good, but if you want the $20 off promotional code that does not work I called ring.com they said it was expired and there was nothing they can do about it. I suggested they change the RUclips they said it was not under their control, but the RUclipsr says at the beginning he is being paid for this ad. so it is under their control. if you try the product just do not plan for a $20 off savings.

Jordan, thanks for the review. How did you know you initially wired it backwards? How can you tell? Does it not work at all when the polarity is reversed?I also hardwired my to my existing doorbell, and everything is working fine, EXCEPT that my battery went from 100% to 75% in one day. Perhaps I was playing with it too much, and it couldn't trickle charge it fast enough? Or do you think I also wired it backwards and it is not charging at all. Everything looks and works fine. I have a steady dim-white LED ring, which according to the instructions means it is hardwired.I'll wait overnight to see if it charges up or drains down during minimal usage. Thanks again!

What impact does it have on your internet? Uploading video 24x7 would be quite taxing on the bandwidth.
So how does it work if it's not 24/7?
Depends on how you set up the motion zones. But it will start recording after a few moments of motion being detected. Then it stops recording once motion is no longer detected. No motion, no recording.
I think I know why he was standing outside, but won't ruin the surprise for you.
Do you see anything unethical when recording your neighbors activities using the wide view? This is being used and marketed by police to surveil you and your neighbors. Why is that good?
I have a question, so if the motion detector picks up something, and you are not home, can you click the notification and then say turn the mic on and ask "what are you doing?"
Can I use the ring device in the following manner ?I would like to use the ring device with their chime ... to get notifications, video, sound etc.In addition if someone pushes my regular doorbell ... will the motion sensor kick in allowing me to use my phone to get notifications video, sound etc. ?
+Imre Varga Yup, Chime does exactly that - it'll emit a tone for Motion and Ring alert when someone's at your front door. You'll also receive both alerts on your smartphone so that you can access real-time video calls.
Is that a doorbell on your desk?
To much of a delay before recording postman has delivered the mail and is halfway up the path before it starts recording you only see the back of him .

You don't have to swap the doorbell wire it doesn't matter
Were you able to get the Ring to pick up motion consistently over 3-5 ft? Besides large trucks driving by I mean.
Do NOT buy is you live in cold climate, I live in chicago area, mine died multiple times last winter, called support, they told me frankly that have have a lot of customers complain the same thing, the solution is to charge it indoor, it'd work for 24 hours, then you have to bring it indoor and charge it again. and yes, MY DOORBEEL IS HARDWIRED, that does not help, the device only operates on battery, if battery died, it won't work, even if it is hardwired.
Do we have to charge the battery all the time. ? Or that doorbell wire will support to keep it charge the battery ?
Does this doorbell only notify you on your phone or does it come with a device that you can plug into the wall that rings also? I do not have an existing doorbell or wires so the device will have to be used completely wireless.
I'm concerned it won't hold up through winter's harsh weather.

Why did I come here from watching the ring
If I understand correctly, without paying the $30 per year there is no video unless you catch it when it happens. Meaning I can't see something from an hour ago or say within the last 24 hours. Do I understand correctly?
+kenargo That is correct, if it's not recorded, and you didn't see it live, you'll miss it. All you will have is a notification of movement or a doorbell ring in your app.

+kenargo I thought so at first, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. It comes with 30 days out of the gate. For the 1/2 the cost of a Starbucks coffee per month... you can see who's been coming and going *AND* download it for various reasons. It does have motion sensing so you can see who's creeping on your house, they don't have to ring the doorbell to be recorded.
+Bob Carpenter Still no-go for me. To me this is no different than having to pay extra for a carry-in bag (who flies with no luggage?). "Buy this great door bell but it costs $30 per year is you 'really' want to get the full benefits". I'll keep looking, our neighbors were looking at this for a neighborhood watch bulk purchase (about 15 home), oh well, not this one.

I found this video because someone in the next neighborhood shared a pic on FB of a man trying to break into their house at 1 a.m. which was captured by one of these gadgets. The person on film has been seen by other residents trying to break in, but no one had him on video until now

So, is it easy to post videos recorded by Ring on FB or RUclips? If so, please describe how you do this.
Well one easy way - just download a "screen recorder" app for free from Google Play Store etc, then you just record screen while you view doorbell video. The app creates a video clip (eg: mpg4 or .avi etc.) That clip can easily be posted to You Tube, just like any other video.

Hi, a friend of mine sais he has to wait a long time to see the live video when someone's at the door. This often causes the person ringing at the door to leave before the live video is available. Anyone else had this problem?

No one mentions how it sends everything it records back to the chinese manufacturers. A Rep. From ring tried telling a guy on reddit it was sending back feed back to china, but it was sending everything video, audio
that looks pretty interesting, price is a bit high but it does look pretty good.
Do you happen to know what voltage the doorbell wiring inside your house is ? must be something low like 12V DC since you touched it and survived, i'm not sure what other countries use but they might not be compatible
You said in the video that if it ever got stolen, the company would replace it? SO MY QUESTION IS: if it were to get stolen more than once, how does the company back this up? Will they continue to replace it?

Say you get a notification on your phone when you are out that someone is at the door. What do you say, tell them you're out and that the house is empty?! Otherwise they will be wondering why you don't come to the door

Very cool gadget. I wish it could attach to the peep-hole on my door as I'm in an apartment and can't go screwing the mounting plate into the wall outside.

I purchased a Ring about 4-5 years ago. My first experience was while across town getting a haircut, I received a notification and I saw a guy in front of my door and I heard my wife answer and open the door. I saw him very very clear and could hear everything that was said as if I was standing there with them. My on suggestion is to have it hard wired instead of using batteries.

Very disappointed, it picks up cars but not people walking on my lawn. Still can't detect car pulling in out of my driveway but motion sensor light can. Rings support suggested reducing range and closing zones, really the most advanced motion detecting technology and you need to shut it down to work. Going back to costco
just bought the video doorbell 2 we have one on the front door and one on the back door/garage so we bought two of the video doorbell two and one spotlight camera with solar for the back yard
Something I don't like about it, right off-hand .... As evidenced by the video provided, the camera has a hard time showing facial detail, with a backlit subject. The daytime video shows the subjects face as a silhouette. The nighttime video is too grainy, which also hinders facial recognition. This product may be helpful in remote answering of your door, but IMO this unit falls short for the purpose of subject identification.
The idea is great! But when intruders realized that I have a ring doorbell they covered it up! Like they didn’t give a fuck 🙄 at first they were like “whoa what’s this” then they quickly ran into their car and grabbed some type of cloth and covered it up and still got into house😿 so I guess his doorbell is clearly made for people who don’t have balls to invade someone’s home🤷🏽♀️
After purchasing this device for some times I have two thoughts:
1. Sometimes you will get motion notification way later. I'd pull out from drive way and on my way to the next block before my phone notifies me of motion at my door from my car pulling out. I don't know if this is a internet speed issue or the Ring server problem.
2. When your free cloud trial is finished, there is no way to view previous videos. If motion is detected, you must use your phone and look at it immediately or you will never be able to view it again. This time frame is very short, annoying when you get to your phone a few seconds late and want to see what's going on outside.

So they make you pay $200 and then I have to pay for a subscription too? Quality should come with the product not after paying extra. This company is just like EA.
I’ve got one and it’s not as great as people make out. Detection, not reliable due to delay between detection and the time it takes to connect to your Wi-Fi signal. It’s a bit like trying to connect to Wi-Fi on your phone, it doesn’t always connect instantly, which means sometimes somebody can come to your door and it doesn’t actually record them. It is definitely not 1080p recording and the sound quality is very poor. The biggest downside is you have to pay an annual subscription fee if you want the doorbell to record video, if people realised that they probably wouldn’t buy it. I forgot to mention battery life, only lasts for about half the stated time, about 4 months actually which is about a third of the stated battery life.
I own one of the 1st Ring $200.00 dollar door bells, undoubtedly the biggest wast of money I ever spent. I would leave the house get in my car be a block away befor I would get a notice. No such thing as two way conversation, the person at the door was long gone befor this thing would notify me. Don’t wast you money, there are lot of product on the market that work for a lot less money money.

me and wife has a vs985 4g ltd smart phone the ring doorbell video does not ring what good is i. But for $30 you get optional ringer to carry around with you. talked to tech people nobody now why said they would call back lol.
Looks like they work well for house applications, but how well would they work in an inside apartment installation? Do they view 180 degrees well enough to catch someone sliding down close to the wall of a hallway and , say , bust it with a hammer out of view?? Any apartment people try this camera in here?
What they fail to tell you is that you must have high speed internet for the camera to work. High speed internet is not available in our area. What a waste of money! You also need wifi extenders so the bell can get a strong signal from your modem/router. The battery does not last that long. I have to charge ours once a week! Thumbs down on this product. 👎👎
Will it work when its 5degrees F for 6months of the year? And isnt keeping a battery at 100% always very bad for batteries and just end up killing it after a few yrs
Amazing. Great review. Great looking product, and I love that it has IFTTT support. You could do things like turn a light on i the doorbell is rung (though this will probably infuriate the person ringing if you turn a light on but don't answer the door.
Maybe link the doorbell to a vacuum cleaner, so the vacuum comes on after the doorbell is rung, so they think you're in but didn't hear the bell and won't be able to hear subsequent bells?
Anyway I definitely want this thing and will wait for the price to fall a bit.
Since it does a live video call with you, anywhere in the world, I generally just answer the door, no matter where I am, and if the person wants me to come to the door, I either tell them I'm in the shower, on the toilet, or I have a broken foot and can't make it down the stairs, so they believe I'm home.

I get fed up of biased reviews especially when the manufacturer asks the reviewer not happy as there can be bias. Have heard my people comment on the delay of notification , by the time the home owner is notified the visitor has long gone. Can you can confirm this please ?????

This is a complete rip off . I installed And so far I have to charge it at least once a month. Being totally disabled this is very challenging. This is very overrated. Don’t waste your money.
Oh boy now I can see the 3 visitors I get at my house a year on camera.
I had the ring 1 and Ring 2 Pro and I can tell you their junk and I've gotten rid of them because of it. Yes most of the time the car is leaving with the people in it that were at the door by the time the app comes up. Also having them on both doors cost me $60 per year to see my videos off of my ring camera on their cloud. I have a closed circuit TV security system I rely on and I don't have to pay anything to see the videos!
Can it ring with the Amazon Echo? I have one in my bedroom and would love if it could ring for me.

One of the best investment ive ever made, being in the UK, where I am its fairly quiet, so not much activity that goes on just after 9 but least i know when there is a parcel arriving i can see who is delivering it, without throwing it on the floor

Mine is a load of rubbish 1 year old series 2 and will not charge anymore from the transformer voltage ok at the unit battery lasts about 1 month before having to take out and recharge about as much quality as an Alexa after a year through in the bin
