Love the Ring Pro! The only thing I would add is that Ring will also replace your unit for free if someone steals it...nice feature considering they are not cheap.
I like his break down of all three devices--He did fail to mention that Skybell is more reliable on push notifcations & connectivity--I own a Skybell HD and chose it because it was doing live video ondemand when Ring devices did not..Here's an update on skybell HD motion detection,on 1/8/17 they did a firmware update version 1122 to be exact that now records 5 to 10 sec's before motion is detected and before doorbell button is press so you don't miss anything prior to alerts anymore..GREAT JOB SKYBELL..
Thanks! I thought they all did a pretty good job with motion and ring notifications. The Ring added live video in 2016. Although it's really slow to pull it up compared to the Ring Pro or SkyBell HD, still better than nothing. With both the Ring Pro and SkyBell HD live video is fast, few seconds. I was using firmware 1122 on the SkyBell HD for this test. Even with new firmware it was slowest of the 3 to start the recording when the motion starts from a distance of more than a few feet. Maybe SkyBell can set it to start even earlier? I think it's motion sensor doesn't have a lot of range compared to the Rings which is part of the issue. Overall are you happy with the SkyBell HD?
Yes I like the Skybell HD..works great..To respond on motion sensor with new skybell hd firmware update I have my set to "medium" and it catches everything 5 to sec's 10 sooner and on "high" same results with more notifications..
Mark Her My ring pro does live on demand. I can talk too or listen to anyone in my zone frame. I've a nosy neighbor who hassles the delivery man when I get a package and even snoops through them. I'm going to love the look on her face when I tell her to mind her own business through the doorbell and see the shocked look on her face when she knows she's busted. I didn't get it just for that. I like the security it affords me.
With the Loonfree doorbell which you buy it from Amazon. If someone stand at your gate for over 15 seconds and don't press your doorbell. It will keep snapshot of visitors automadiarry and send inform to your mobile phone. The doorbell is with battery powered, the RING doorbell battery can lasting use 2 months, but the LOONFREE doorbell can last using 8 months with charging 30 minutes ONLY. Product link on amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B074PM76Q5
although the background looked much clearer on the SkyBell - the face appeared to be washed out which is troubling to me. The face could be clearly made out on the Ring Pro. I don't really care if the trees look beautiful if someone is robbing me. Great video by the way. Thanks.
I see what you mean, but I think that it is the brightness of the porch light causes that issues, I never leave my porch light on at all times anyways and the Skybell HD shows the face or items with great clarity and not to mention in color in the dark, giving me the option to then turn on the light when I go to open the door; as I will already know who is there, but you choose what is best for you and yours!!
Great review. Objective and articulate. One thing you never mentioned is the operating temperature. My RING goes on strike once colder than about -15C. I'm decommissioning it and will buy a Skybell which they claim is good to -40C. My Ring often misses someone arriving or leaving or records only the last moments; but it never misses a passing bus or the garbage truck which is it's favorite. I've tried every adjustment possible but has proved to be a waste of time. If you live in a cold climate as I do, I wouldn't consider Ring.
Own Ring, Ring Pro and Stick Cam. Live in northeast where it gets cold. All 3 work perfect UNTIL it is below 30 degrees. Ring users are constantly complaining of the problems during cold weather months. Replacement Ring products act the same in cold weather. It is NOT advertised that they do not work consistently in cold weather, yet the problem is known. Great product if I was into switching out doorbells once winter comes......
I live in NY and have 5hrs of sunlight a day so I ran a 18-2 awg to the bell from a solar panel I bought for $25 and it charges every day even in the Winter I have no problem what so ever. I had no doorbell before it is why I installed the solar panel, got tired or removing it to charge when battery died.
Great points on all 3 cameras! Certainly agree with the reviewer that camera choice depends on personal situation and/or preference. Both the Ring and Skybell HD doorbell cameras are compatible with our security system, so you have that choice depending on which one you prefer. In fact, the Ring doorbell camera connects to our encrypted system.
Nice review, were operational temperatures missed? Skybell does -40 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 65 degrees Celsius), Ring Pro: -5 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit (-20.5 to 49 Celsius). This may play a factor for some.
I just want to say that that was an amazing video that clearly demonstrated the pros and cons of the devices as well as the various uses. Thank you, Sincerely Carl La Grotteria Sr
Which is better facing say 30 feet from a residential road? Only concern is Skybell triggerring everytime a car goes past which my YI Domecam does already. however need to activate/ record as soon as something enters wide driveway.
Thank you! Finally a good review that helps decision making instead of making it more complicated. Love- "The video quality won't matter if it's not recording."
I have Ring doorbell and I like it when it works. Sometimes the weather interferes and the battery doesn't last that long. It works great though when my wifi is working well. Recordings are great and I love the 2 WAY talk option. I can talk to people and it freaks them out...lol...like ups or visitors.
I notice there was no mention of of how well it stands against the elements. Like rain wind snow also can I mount this away from the house. Like at the corner of my front yard so as to record the car parked in front of my house.
How was the ring pro recording motion even before you caused motion by opening the front door ?? Does it constantly monitor / record so when there is a motion event it can roll back a few seconds just before the motion event occurs ??
Would be interested in knowing if a regular surveillance like lorex can be interfaced with it. Live in NY but have a property in carribbean and can't rely on neighbors. Found out neighbors ran their sewer pipes thru my property and electrical wiring was cut and plugged with others (electricity theft). This means I need more property surveillance coverage.
Great review. No nonsense and direct to the point with important information. 5 Stars for the review. I have decided on the Ring 2 doorbell which is a newer version of the 1st generation Ring..
Most people in my very nice neighborhood prefer The Ring. There's a nice chime that alerts you while you're home or away if there is a person walking near your property or you can set it for cars driving past near your property! Plus it's in color day n night! We all chose The Ring, better quality for your money and overall security!!!
I have a question. I just had my ring pro installed and I set my zones to alert to. What I've noticed is it starts recording in the zone area but doesn't alert me until the person is closer to the doorbell. I'd like to be alerted as soon as they come in the zone frame. Do I turn the motion sensitivity up to accomplish this? Pls help.
Great review, you answered a lot of my questions I had concerning video doorbells. FYI as of the time of making this comment you can get a Ring (not Ring Pro) for $99 from Best Buy on eBay. As far as I know they only have the "oil rubbed bronze" color for that price but a very good price.
Hi, do you know if I can connect them or even facial recognition camera and have Amazon Echo to say hi when it recognizes specific face I want it ? Thank you !!!
Hello nice video. Excellent content. Just some suggestions (in order of importance) : 1. Don't have a constant expression (the "someone has a gun on my head" expression, relax, you have Ring!) on your face. Vary your expressions. Your expressions should be light, RELAXED and varied 2. That wardrobe!!! 3. Also, try varying your pitch more. You repeat the same vocal rhythm over and over again. But point 1 is most important.
Great review. Do you know if they are weather proof? I'm planning to put it on the front gate (the house has a gate here) and it might be exposed with sun and rain (no snow).
is there a doorbell cam you could recommend for a apartment? (one that I won't have to take anything apart or drill holes in anything to install, etc. you get the picture)
I wish you had described the ease or difficulty of changing batteries vs plug in, types of power available-battery vs AC/DC. Otherwise, I found the video comparison quite informative.
I wanted to ask this question. I have the Ring Pro. And when it's connected to my wifi, it says I have a good signal. However, within a day or two, I lose wifi connection and have to re-establish wifi again. It's a pain in the ass since we have to remove the cover plate to hit the reset button. Despite it saying I have good signal strength, do you think it's wise to pick up a Ring Chime Pro (wifi extender)? I only say this because perhaps the signal is good but then fluctuates and drops to a point where it loses connection to the camera. With the Ring Chime Pro, I'm hoping to have a more stable wifi connection? Thoughts?
I currently have a peephole with a non-electrical doorbell on the outside with a chime box attached on the inside. Can the battery run "Ring" be installed over the peephole in the door, once I remove the entire peephole Lastly, would the USB Charging port face my side of the door through the peephole for easy charging? Thanks
Hi Mike Thank you for your review. Very helpful. I have Ring PRO with Chime PRO. very strong WIFI Router, but the ring videos are freezing. I replaced 3 units with 2-chimes and lots of time spend with troubleshooting technicians , but so far no Clue. Ring pro is freezing.
Great doorbell. Used to be compatible with Armorax’s old system but their new encrypted system can be synced with the Ring doorbell. That also has great reviews.
Jeff Mann no it does not. It records the date the file was created like a camera does but not like the old school video cameras in the image. It's still usable in court though. If you have an image of a guy breaking in your house the judge and jury will still want to see it.
Thank you for the comparisons especially the videos side by side. Questions: 1. Does Skybell have a door chime option yet? 2. Do you think the motion detection delay for Skybell is tolerable? It seemed that it did record the bulk of the action. 3. Skybell made a "Trim" version in which Honeywell bought the entire inventory. Have any comments about the TRIM's performance? Thanks again
Love the review but I would go with the skybell I don't own any of these but I plan on buying one and the patio to the house were buying has a slight corridor so no false activations
I'm sorry, I 'm not understanding the Skybell 7 Free storage. So it keeps only 7 days at a time? Then it deletes. If you need to keep footage do you then buy it from sky bell?
Strange that the devices with power would not be continuously recording and then give you the option of how much time before an alert to save? I thought that was pretty standard with IPcamera devices. Seems like someone who knows you have a camera can run up and disable it or steal it before it would start recording?
You look very cute when you don't lick your hair down like you've done here. I almost thought the guy outside was someone else. But having said this, I've come back to your video over three times, while I decide which model's best for me, because your presentation is the most professional. I feel you both speak and carry yourself confidently in front of the camera. And because you look adorable in the goofy doorcam clips.
Gear Guide Neither. I'm waiting to see what you think about the forthcoming Skybell Max and Skybell Trim Plus versions. The current models all have deal-breaker drawbacks (size, flimsy mounts, wifi-proximity issues). If the upcoming skybell models still have issues, I think I'll go with the August system.
I just bought ring and having teething troubles, think it needs to be said, you have to make sure you have a really good internet signal. Got an extender to boost mine even though I have fast BB at a distance of 4 metres Bell to router. Still having feedback on sound, could this be my phone??
Popspicker I have not had the echo problem with any of them. Maybe try resetting everything. I did need to install a wifi extender also to boost my signal outside. I think that most people should plan on doing that also since you need a good signal for it to work reliably.
I have a ring pro and im from india, the ring alexa skill is geographically restricted and not available in my country, please tell.me a workaround for this, i would love to be able to talk via my echo dot
I have the Ring Pro and it's the second one I've had works great for awhile then when someone is coming up to the door or drives in the driveway it jumps around or it just stops sometimes it turns green and u can see anything also getting it to come up on my iPhone sometimes fast other time it's very slow. I'm really sick of it cause neither one has worked very long. Great at first then I would say in 4 months or so goes to hell. So not sure what to do.
Ok, the Skybell started recording last bur it STILL caught the moment you bent over to up the package and walked off. It's just recording the relevant stuff you need, rather than superfluous stuff before like you running up to the door.
hardly superfluous to record someones face as it's facing directly toward the camera. I can imagine telling the police about this person who stole your package and giving them one side of your face that would more than likely be covered up with a hood if you're a package thief.
Can the 10 sec delay in start of motion detection on Skybell be manually turned off, to start motion detection, as it occur in real time and much earlier?
My Ring keeps dropping out of my home WiFi network even though the RSSI is good. Also, after I reconnect the WiFi, the Live View feature often disappears from the Android app. It is becoming very frustrating.
I have not had that problem. Maybe try a WiFi extender to boost the signal even more. Or you might just have a defective Ring. I would contact Ring if you can't fix it.
Chinny Heng I am a tech support agent from Ring. the Ring Video Doorbell will last between 8-10 months off of a single charge based on an average of 3-4 triggered events a day
Ring Pro would be my recommendation based on motion detection and speed to record. Vid quality is pretty good, sensitivity is great, fov is tight but you could try to move it back.
Three sensitivity test videos are all gimmick. All 3 Ring Pro videos started before motion detector sensed. Specially the third one started before the motion of door opening. What was the motion detector kicked on the third one?
No fees, that's all I needed to hear. Skybell it is!
Love the Ring Pro! The only thing I would add is that Ring will also replace your unit for free if someone steals it...nice feature considering they are not cheap.
I just installed my Skybell and it does now record just before the motion. Very thorough video and detailed image. Love it.
What was the motion sensitivity set on for the Skybell during this review?
Just got a Skybell HD.. easy setup and great picture...plus no fees. Glad I bought it!

I installed a security door and now can't see through the old door peephole.

Finally! A place to get high quality reviews! Keep up the good work, and thank you! I love the Drill videos too!
wheelstandr Thanks!
thanks for detail review. I choose Skybell. Thanks.
overdriver99 I chose a Nest Hello.
I really liked the video comparisons, they really help get a sense of the doorbells' capabilities.
Nice review, were operational temperatures missed?
Skybell does -40 to 150 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 65 degrees Celsius), Ring Pro: -5 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit (-20.5 to 49 Celsius). This may play a factor for some.
toit yes! Thank you for this. This is important for people in places with extreme temperatures.
toit I wonder if any of them have an internal heater like the Nest Hello.
My Skybell still works well at about -20 Celsius, after that it craps out until it warms up again. I live in Canada.
I love ur detailed review and how u make it easy for us to compare the doorbells. Thanks 👍🏻
I just want to say that that was an amazing video that clearly demonstrated the pros and cons of the devices as well as the various uses.

Bloody great review. So clear concise and un-biased. Good job mate!
Solid review man! Helped me make my choice haha
InterestingTop7s awesome! That’s why I made them

I really enjoyed this video. You took your time explaining every detail clearly. Keep up the good work. Thank you
any chance of doing a comparison with the door bird ? or any other hard wired systems. Ive run cat 6 cable already.
I have a question. I just had my ring pro installed and I set my zones to alert to. What I've noticed is it starts recording in the zone area but doesn't alert me until the person is closer to the doorbell. I'd like to be alerted as soon as they come in the zone frame. Great review, with Skybell's Hindsight recording a few seconds before motion was detected, does this not improve its rating ?
Great review, you answered a lot of my questions I had concerning video doorbells. FYI as of the time of making this comment you can get a Ring (not Ring Pro) for $99 from Best Buy on eBay. As far as I know they only have the "oil rubbed bronze" color for that price but a very good price.
I`ve never had any gadgets on my entrance door before and I am researching for the best choice.Your video is a great help, really.Thank you.
Hello, I a question
are all 3 the units water proof ?
also
can these units be hard wired to the house electrical system or the phone wires. Thank you.
I would like a feature where I would just like to see what is going on outside at the front - does any Ring video bell come with such features?
Hi, do you know if I can connect them or even facial recognition camera and have Amazon Echo to say hi when it recognizes specific face I want it ? Thank you !!!
IT IS THE BEST REVIEW THAT I NEVER SEE, VERY CLEAR INFORMATIONS NO MISTAKES WITH THIS GUY TKS,
can you do a comparison between Google home hub and Amazon Eco Show and also when connected to door bell
Here we are ~14 months later. Each company has newer models out. Any updates?
I love your videos, thanks for your detailed analysis. I'd love to see more!
Great review. Do you know if they are weather proof? I'm planning to put it on the front gate (the house has a gate here) and it might be exposed with sun and rain (no snow).
They both claim to work in rain. If possible I would place it under an awning or build a little cover to keep most of the rain off just to be safe.
Gear Guide thanks for the reply.
great review pal.. no gimmick, you stayed focus on the subject .. going to subscribe
The winner is skybell! Better picture, no fees, easy assembly.
4:35 You can also buy a wedge kit to angle the ring pro downward slightly
4:18 the Ringpro is recording before you even open the door, can you explain that?
It's always recording and when it detects motion it add a few seconds of video before the motion was detected. Pretty cool!
is there a doorbell cam you could recommend for a apartment? (one that I won't have to take anything apart or drill holes in anything to install, etc. you get the picture)
I would get the Ring Video Doorbell 2. Runs on batteries. amzn.to/2LFlEGt
Thoughts?
You stated that the Ring has an optional indoor chime.....what chime is compatible with the SkyBell?
I currently have a peephole with a non-electrical doorbell on the outside with a chime box attached on the inside. Can the battery run "Ring" be installed over the peephole in the door, once I remove the entire peephole Lastly, would the USB Charging port face my side of the door through the peephole for easy charging? Thanks
can you download the recording off of the ring cloud, if you wanted to?
Hi Mike Thank you for your review. Very helpful. I have Ring PRO with Chime PRO. very strong WIFI Router, but the ring videos are freezing. I replaced 3 units with 2-chimes and lots of time spend with troubleshooting technicians , but so far no Clue. Ring pro is freezing.
Great doorbell. Used to be compatible with Armorax’s old system but their new encrypted system can be synced with the Ring doorbell. That also has great reviews.
Question. Can I have multiple phones accessing/receiving the Rings ?
so if standing on porch about where should I install it 3 4 5 6 feet up or doesn't matter since I can drag the view thing where I want it.
Karen Sue the optimal height for mounting either of the Ring doorbell is 48 inches above the ground.
Hands down you have the BEST video!! Thank you so much!!
Will you do an update when the nest doorbell comes out please?
Dragonbait yes!
Great details! Precisely what I was looking for in a review!
Excellent video! I like how you hit all the key features..
Thanks for this review, it is the best one I have seen that compares in detail the three top products.
Great review, thanks for taking the time to narrow the choice down for me!
Nice review, well organized. Does the Ring or Ring Pro have a time stamp to make the video usable in court?
Jeff Mann no it does not. It records the date the file was created like a camera does but not like the old school video cameras in the image. It's still usable in court though. If you have an image of a guy breaking in your house the judge and jury will still want to see it.
Very Good explanation of 3 video rings.
Thank you SO much for clearing that up! I get it now. Thanks! :)
Great job. You were very good at explaining the differences. Choice made!
For the Ring/Ring Pro, do the saved videos on cloud storage have audio?
Yes
I honestly enjoy the skybell at my home. It generally is very fast at detecting motion at our home.
Would you do a review on the Elite version of the Ring?
Strange that the devices with power would not be continuously recording and then give you the option of how much time before an alert to save? I thought that was pretty standard with IPcamera devices. Seems like someone who knows you have a camera can run up and disable it or steal it before it would start recording?
You look very cute when you don't lick your hair down like you've done here. I almost thought the guy outside was someone else. But having said this, I've come back to your video over three times, while I decide which model's best for me, because your presentation is the most professional. I feel you both speak and carry yourself confidently in front of the camera. And because you look adorable in the goofy doorcam clips.
plutorama haha thanks! Which one did you decide on getting?
How did you wire all the door bells at the same time?
El Tiburón split the wires coming from my doorbell transformer.
great video, you just help me to make up my mind on what video doorbell to purchase, I will puchase the Ring Pro. - thanks again.
I have a ring pro and im from india, the ring alexa skill is geographically restricted and not available in my country, please tell.me a workaround for this, i would love to be able to talk via my echo dot
How do you know that the SkyBell delayed motion sensing/recording wasn't due to wifi connection?
I'd like a doorbell camera that does both cloud and Hard Disc/SSD storage...Great video
Thanks! Yeah I agree. I would like one that could recode on a DVR in the house so you cant steal the doorbell cam and lose all your footage.

Wait! im not a technical person but are you saying if someone steals the door bell you lose your footage?
Can you view the Ring Pro on a PC or just a smart phone?
Sam G you can view the Rings on the mobile app, website and desktop app. So one mobile and two PC options.
That is great. Very good informative no BS video, Keep it up, Thanks
Thanks, That's a good option
Question, Ring pro recommends 2m upload, what does Ring and Skybell recommend for upload?
1m for Ring and 1.5m for SkyBell
I have the Ring Pro and it's the second one I've had works great for awhile then when someone is coming up to the door or drives in the driveway it jumps around or it just stops sometimes it turns green and u can see anything also getting it to come up on my iPhone sometimes fast other time it's very slow. I'm really sick of it cause neither one has worked very long. Great at first then I would say in 4 months or so goes to hell. So not sure what to do.
Thanks for this very informative review. It's one of the best I have ever seen on You Tube.
I like the battery powered ring because it ring your original doorbell instantly where as ring pro had a delay ringing your original doorbell
Can you review the xchime too?
Very good video, can you make one for smart switches?
Ok, the Skybell started recording last bur it STILL caught the moment you bent over to up the package and walked off. It's just recording the relevant stuff you need, rather than superfluous stuff before like you running up to the door.
hardly superfluous to record someones face as it's facing directly toward the camera. I can imagine telling the police about this person who stole your package and giving them one side of your face that would more than likely be covered up with a hood if you're a package thief.
Skybell missed 50% of the video...
Can the 10 sec delay in start of motion detection on Skybell be manually turned off, to start motion detection, as it occur in real time and much earlier?
Sam Sen they have some options to adjust sensitivity and delay but it always had some delay. One of the big reasons I like the Ring better.
What about the audio capability for the three?
They were all pretty good with sound both ways.
How long that battery last for?
Hi,Ring video doorbell, the battery can keep how long?
Chinny Heng I am a tech support agent from Ring. the Ring Video Doorbell will last between 8-10 months off of a single charge based on an average of 3-4 triggered events a day
can the ring be connected to your pc or tablet through wi-fi
RAY SMITH yes they can do mobile tablet or pc.
I am still deciding which one, important points for me are vid quality, sensitivity and fov....
Ring Pro would be my recommendation based on motion detection and speed to record. Vid quality is pretty good, sensitivity is great, fov is tight but you could try to move it back.
Where is the skybell being recorded? SD card, hard drive?
Native722 in the cloud. That’s how all these record.
Originally I was going for Ring but since they charge a fee for cloud storage, I might just go with skybell.
Excellent video, very informative. Getting the Ring Pro! Thanks!
Yes that was a very good, detailed review, first of your vid's I've watched, won't be the last!
Three sensitivity test videos are all gimmick. All 3 Ring Pro videos started before motion detector sensed. Specially the third one started before the motion of door opening. What was the motion detector kicked on the third one?
Has anyone used one of these devices in the winter in the real world? What they say and what it does could be different. I need a cold weather device
