Thanks this was the best introduction.....took exactly the same steps. THREW out those lame screws way too small. Drilleed a larger diameter #8 thru those slots in the plastic. It took LONGER to connect to my home network.....they had to REMOTELY reset the RING DOORBELL PRO 2.
I just upgraded from a Ring Pro to Ring Pro2. I like the video and especially the audio much better. It's not cheap, but I'm happy. One thing you must do when you do this upgrade is to uninstall the older unit from the Ring App. If you don't the software gets lost and hangs. The other thing is to change the power block that goes in your chime. At first I did not bother and my chime rang too long. So I did what the manual said and changed it to the "V3" version. Otherwise everything is the same. Except that for me the video and audio is much better. I hate the audio on the Pro. The video was fuzzy too. They really improved both audio and video. I recently had a burglary and my Ring Pro dropped off WIFI and did not detect the burglar. Maybe these only last two years, so I figured rather than chase the problem on an old unit with flakiness just get a new and hopefully more reliable unit. We'll see.
Ha! Home built in 1996 (doorbell electrical included w/ front of home room) but you saved me a ton of $$ by "step by step"... Not sure about the power supply as door bell was old but giving it a try. Thanks. Easy instructions, installing and easy info on what to expect though. Truly appreciate your assistance.
Dude. Those extra parts about the warranty and the dancing were hilarious. I just might have to start looking into this more deeply but my main problem will be getting the low voltage AC run to the doors. I currently don’t have a doorbell hook up where i need it. Great video and especially great sense of humor!
@@HowToHomeDIY , the only deviation from your how-to was that I didn't connect to the transformer in the chime house at all. I just connected the wires together from the Pro Pack 3 to the wires from the doorbell. When I connected all to the transformer, I got an awful vibration.
My question is the wedge mounting bracket's high side facing the door or way from it? My doorbell button is on the side of the wall right angles to the door. do you mount the bracken so the camera points at the door or away from it? If I am not mistaken your door bell button was on a side wall to your door. I liked the video coverage that you showed. Now to fined the door chime as I have only been in this house a year. Thanks for your help.
Can you dial back the sensitivity of the motion detector? I just installed the plain pro model and it’s to be on which picks up people walking by or off which is no good. I woul just like to detect package drop offs.
I’m planning on getting this. But i dont have an existing chime. Is it ok to connect it straight to my transformer with door Bell wire or do i need some adapter to make it work
Can you please let me know the specs on your doorbell transformer? Is it 24V and 40VA or some other spec? The make and model of the transformer would help as well. Mine is 16V 10VA, so it is underpowered. And it's very old.
I'm sure someone has already asked this question... too lazy to read all comments. Will my existing chime work with the Ring Pro 2 doorbell? I love the sound of my current chime and want to keep it... Great Video...
It would have been nice to see what the zoom feature is like as far as picture quality. How detail would face recognition be in zoom and pause mode in the day and night.
There is no actual zoom on it. It is like other cameras where basically your phone or tablet is zooming in on the picture. Still looks quite clear but not true focusing.
It was a very helpful video. I am planning to buy pro 2 but my inbuilt chime does not work for some reason. Does that mean I have to order separate chime or will it work once I plug in ring adapter to chime?
Do we need to install - Newhouse HardwareWired 16V 30vA Doorbell Transformer Compatible with Ring Pro2? I got the townhome in 2021. not sure whether I need to have this transformer or not ?
Recently installed the Ring video doorbell pro 2. We love it, but having issues with the transformer voltage reading in the Device Heath tab on the app. The pro 2 needs 16-24 volts and according to the Ring app, the voltage is around 16 which is good, but at times it drops to 15 volts and then I get a "poor" reading in the Device Health tab. Ring told me I probably needed a new transformer, however none of us can find it. My question is, if the voltage drops to 15 only periodically, it that ok? If not, sounds like I'll need a totally different doorbell since we cannot locate the transformer. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks!
Glad to have you aboard! It really was a fairly easy install. So without the subscription you would be able to access the camera and watch it live at any time, you can get the motion notifications and then watch what caused it live, and you can also communicate with anyone at the door. Without it though, the biggest loss would be that you would have no recorded video to be able to look at past events. With one device I believe it is $3 a month and for multiple devices I believe it is $10 per month. I hope this was helpful!
Also, you say most people have their front porch light on? False sense of security: I have multiple ring pathway lights, couple stand alone motion sensors, step lights, one floodlight in back of the house and one above the garage, one ring floodlight to integrate for my front door, along with two spotlights in a couple key spots, all so that if any one item is triggered it throws up alllllll might lights at once making anyone on my property know they've been detected while of course triggering all cameras including a few stickups I have. Their purchase and acquisition of Mr Beams so I could do all of this is what I had been waiting for as it's all in one single app along with their security in the event it gets to that point even --waited literally 4 years for this alllll to come together, but there is not a more robust system including future upgrades to integrate my door locks and garage door (plus a gate powered relay controller if you happen to have such amenities). Pretty unreal and mad respect even though it did take longer than they projected to get it all tied
I have literally had multiple occasions of people in the last year head towards my property and start to walk on it , shortly thereafter triggering a remote motion sensor or pathway light, triggering the whole system and they immediately turn away. At the same time my old porch light on like everyone else as you say doesn't deter most as it's static and "they" know that. You can setup your pathway lights to dim quicker than your ring bulbs, too, so in my case my pathway lights around different parts of the property dim after 60 seconds of no part of the system detecting motion, whereas my porch light stays on for 3 min along with my step lights right at the door which dim at 3min then, too. Obviously all of your lighting sequencing is user defined. Again, cannot beat this now considering all parts to the ecosystem.
So from what I'm seeing is that the Ring Pro 2 does not have a battery that requires the door bell to be frequently disassembled to charge the battery then to reassemble it?
Thank you for the detailed instructions! I'm putting the Pro 2 on the front and back doors. Are there any issues with having two power packs attached to the transfomer?
I hooked up two to one transformer. You need to order a beefier transformer I ordered a 24VAC 60VA one from amazon and it works perfectly. Using a standard transformer one camera will lose power all the time and cause issues.
If you already have a chime like you saw in my video, then you would not need the additional chime from Ring. Also if you have any echo dots, they can also serve as alerts that someone is at the door.
It is my understanding according to ring that yes it is in many instances. But they also have cable made to bypass it depending on the current configuration. I know for instance on the first pro model that this was the case and there would be no reason for that to have changed as the power pack is different but also has much of the same function. I hope this helps!
Absolutely! I believe you are referring to the pro power kit. It goes in the doorbell chime and helps to ensure that the doorbell itself is always getting the right power it needs in order to operate correctly. I hope this answered your question.

Correct, this is hardwired to the doorbell power wires.
