Nobody did drill better than Cavies. The precise movements and the ending positions to get there are just classic good old fashioned drum corps at it’s finest.
In the end it came down to concept vs. Execution. The Blue Devil's show, while not conceptually void, was certainly less cohesive than the Cavaliers show. But what they lacked in concept, they made up for in cleanliness and harmony. Now, I do prefer shows with stronger concepts over cleanliness, but I also understand that the execution of a show is better to judge, because otherwise we are essentially judging the show designers instead of the young men and women performing the show.
Jose Hill Mad world is my favorite Cavies show but it could have been better. On my first watch through I noticed a rifle drop in the Riflemen’s Creed and the rifles where not in line when they were placed on the ground. I’ve watched it many times since then and there are a few more mistakes.
@@crestonlukemartin9271 BD dropped too (at least twice) and spent the majority of the show standing in front of/ moving/ or hiding behind mirrors. I heard the original title of the show was called "The Emperor's New Clothes" but they changed it because they thought it was too obvious.
Love the Cavaliers: their history with Don Warren, style, guard EVERYTHING!! But will always be a Cadets fan at heart since first seeing them in early 90's and learning their history
I know they've struggled financially over the years and I know about George Hopkins..... If you read between the lines a bit more Sam you'd know I"m talking about their marching and musical history and not the other crap. Still many positives
I still get a laugh out of the guy kicking the cone haha :) I'm a scouts fan but I think the highest scores in the history of the sport should've gone to some of those 2000's shows.
Well, 2002 sits at a nice 99.15. 2004 is also a 98.7, which is pretty impressive as well. So some of them did actually get some of the highest scores ever (though I still wish some of them were even higher as well).
Hi do you remember every year waiting for the score crossing your fingers for the Cavaliers even if they were just so-so? One of the best under-dogs of all time. They ran with some really tough musical choices in the 80's. They did a Rimski-Korsakov Russian program in like 1980 that was great. Miss the green uniforms
Fine compilation especially to recall the glory of those years shown, nice edits, nice length at just under 15m, Thanks!!! They were so great and you included the bass drum beat 5:30 oh yeah!
It seems to me that the Cavies color guard lost it's precision and perfection for a period. Even in some of the shows shown here their synchronicity wasn't up to their standards. I wish they would put more into showing what an all male color guard can do.
They are fielding a relatively small guard this year (compared to the mammoth guards at Crown and Boston), but doing a really cool book and nailing some huge flag tosses.
Shame the late Brubaker years didn't make the cuts. '89 - 91. Best integration of brass, guard and percussion ensembles into the mass drill designs. So hypnotic, so inventive and sheer delights to watch over and over again! Music books first rate!
Theodore N. DCI's official RUclips page has posted "highlights" for some of the 80's and 90's shows, those are actually pretty good quality. But most people think of early 2000's Cavies when they think of them anyways, so it's not really that big a deal.
Yep cavaliers 2000 ta 2004 ...its like the equivalent of what the patriots have done in nfl or what the Chicago bulls did in the nba in the 90s ..they just was that group to see during early 2000s ..01 four corners show is my favorite
2000, and the show is boss. Every show they did from 2000 to 2008 (except, imo, 2005 and 2007) is some of the best work I've ever seen on a field. Niagara Falls, Four Corners, Frameworks, Spin Cycle, 007, Machine, and Samurai are just...find them, watch them.
Cavs are all time greats of DCI/ jr. corps, superb drums and horns their MO, great color guard. But I still can't take the histrionics of today's corps.
I should know but it has to be after the 1995 1st place and before the 2001 1st place, wood finish drums, it is 2000 Cavaliers tied for 1st (with Cadets) 97.65 (Niagara Falls - Niagara Falls * Original Composition (Cadets had won Quarter & Semi Finals a show worth revisiting) Cavies were 1st in Percussion
Yeah, despite being worshipped critically, Frameworks is actually pretty underrated. Wish some of the "general audience" for DCI gave it more appreciation. Niagara Falls is probably the most overrated. It has fantastic drill, yeah, and the music definitely helps punctuate it at points, but nothing really stood out as overly artistic, from a design stand point (I love Niagara Falls, so don't take this as me hating on it, I just think Frameworks is the best).
Melodies in music take time to develop and these are just short clips of these shows, most of them from exciting visual moments where the majority of the sound is coming from the percussion. Watch the full programs and it's a different story.
Do you even know the history of the swastika and what it means to the people who actually created it? It's The Whirling Log of Life and, it's just sad that it was hijacked by an evil entity.
This is just my opinion, I grew up with this style, call real Drum & Bugle Corps. You wore a real uniform with hats, helmets or whatever on the field. No crap on the field. We were Drum Corps. not Bands or Broadway shows. I stop supporting this new style of musical entertainment.
Unless you marched a valveless instrument resembling a trumpet strapped to your side while you played drums, you didn't march real drum and bugle corps, either.
Okay everything was good except for 2016. 2016 was just bad. It is not pleasing to the ears and the ending was really bad. Every other one of their shows is absolutely amazing though

Gloria, Four Corners, and XtraordinarY are the three most underrated Cavaliers shows. All three are incredible on a whole other level.
What year was Gloria?
John Lehman 1989. There’s a recording with iffy video but decent enough audio.
Thanks! I'll have to find it!
"And So It Goes" and "The Great Divide" have to be THE MOST underrated for me.
Samurai 08 for me love that show
I swear....that 2010 show should’ve won!!!! Everybody in the stadium thought so (except for all the BD nuts, or course....🤷🏾♂️)

Kylan but the Cavies could not have executed that show any better. Everything about Mad World was tight from the brass to the color guard.
