Growing up, I swear they were the only corps. I could be blindfolded and recognize their style and sound of music instantly. Damn, never again. Fuck GH!
the drill heads for crown and cadets (especially in recent years) have been my absolute favorite, with exceptions to Scouts, Cavvies, and Star of Indiana in the 90s and early 2000s
In a time of some much staging, the Cadets brought back beautiful (and nuts!) drill and music. The ending is amazing. Maybe the best fourth place show ever. And the 12.25 ending is also typical Cadets.
although uou cpuldve gone out of the box lol the boston spelling g7 out on a g7 chord gives me goose bumps still boston had hard rock balls writing that show I swear
@@LowkeyMG1 Heres a good explanation of it. Several years ago, a discussion was had proposing an idea that the routinely-top 7 be given a preferential voice at the voting table when it comes to governing DCI rules. The other corps would be expelled from voting and would serve only in advisory positions instead of having what they have now, equal votes in the rules process. These seven - BD, Crown, Cadets, Phantom, SCV, Bluecoats and Cavies - were referred to as the G7. BUT seventh place the previous year of this proposal was actually BAC, who was told that they're not typically in the top seven so they weren't invited. Not to mention the drum corps community lost it at these "elites" removing themselves, for all intents and purposes, away from the general drum corps community at large and deciding that only THEY were worthy of running the show, so to speak. Basically boston took the snub like a g and wrote a show about the nature of a group like the g7 and how toxic it really was, making this moment, paired with the voice over saying, “all drum corps are created equal, but some are more equal than others!” An incredible moment in Dci history.
Yeah, like when Pacific Crest tried to spell “Hollywood” in 2018. The letters were just shrimpy and sort of depressing, the rest of the show was great but that part was rough.
Looks like you watch viral videos on Facebook of the Ohio State Marching Band making a walking dinosaur and think to yourself "aww hecks yes this is what it's all about" jk great video. Just poking fun at all of the shots of the corps spelling something out.
@@juliemroczka6043 not sure I understand your comment. George Z. Died 30 years ago. They give out the George Z Award for best drill design at DCI every year.
I had a pretty good idea of what this video was gonna be, and... it was. A bunch of really cool one off things. Nothing wrong with this video at all. I think it's harder in a lot of cases for drill designers to design really small setpieces instead of the massive ones or the puns like these ones because it's a harder problem to solve in many cases. Like the 2015 Vanguard show right when they get to the ballad the entire corps gets into the three feathers from another set piece, and then all turn in a surprisingly striking moment that caught me off guard. idk
Apparently, this guy has never seen the Cavaliers.
I'm working on making a cavalier drill compilation now!
Cavies haven’t been any good in what?…..a decade?
Consistent top 6 drum corps and top 3 hornline = not good?? wtf
@@echo2121 placement ≠ quality. Blue devils has won every other year and then some for the history of drum corps and only has a handful of good shows.
@@UpinSmok They kinda fell off for a while, but they've been getting better, they've been solid since 2017 and were the best imo in 2021
That crown formation....... good stuff.
Holy shit that last line is tight.
Underrated show imo
4:36 - Carolina Crown’s pissed.
Why yes, the forbidden set
yeah lol, Cadets did it 2x in their '93 closer too
Rest in peace, Cadets.
Growing up, I swear they were the only corps. I could be blindfolded and recognize their style and sound of music instantly. Damn, never again. Fuck GH!
For 100 times the drill designer got it right, watch the Cavaliers from 2000-2010.
on god
exactly. I've never seen a better drill than Machine. That drill was INCREDIBLE.
The fact that there's no Sully drill moments on here is...an interesting choice
The field judge on the last one🤦🏼♂️
Thanks for showing the whole 12.25 closer lol
You should retitle this "8 Times When The Drill Designer Got It Right In DCI from 2012 to 2015". Then it would be accurate.
haha true. these were just the first ones I thought of
don't forget cadets '11 and the sheer work of brilliance there.
Just stumbled upon this.
Bruh just made me nostalgic for two of my teams.
Crossmen ‘12
BAC ‘14
Great video!
the drill heads for crown and cadets (especially in recent years) have been my absolute favorite, with exceptions to Scouts, Cavvies, and Star of Indiana in the 90s and early 2000s
Moving pyramid beats moving cube
Nah
If you have the time, you should make a part two! Great video
I'll consider it
I'm a huge fan of the Crown reveal in 2015. You know it's coming... but it still awes you.
When the cadets make the crown
In a time of some much staging, the Cadets brought back beautiful (and nuts!) drill and music. The ending is amazing. Maybe the best fourth place show ever. And the 12.25 ending is also typical Cadets.
The crown 😳
1:57 PLEASE TELL ME THIS DRUM CORP AND WHICH YEAR THEY MARCHED THIS SHOW!!!
It's in the description. I think it said Cadets 2015
Cadets 2015, power of 10
crown's 2015 upside pyramid could in here lol
That last cadet line though
Yeah, Star 91 should be in there
And yet, no cavies featured here, specifically the early 90's and early to late 00's
I know like wtf
There is already a "Fast waves DCI drill" and "A visual tribute to Steve Brubaker "
I was confused when the cadets made the crown
It's for Jesus, the King of Kings along with the Fish for Christianity.
lol at this list. It should read "8 shows that spelled things and made pretty shapes"
+Dylan Patrick *In the past 4 season.
Apparently you don't know what drill is...
Nope, definitely not lol
What about cavies 2002???
0:56: COOB
although uou cpuldve gone out of the box lol the boston spelling g7 out on a g7 chord gives me goose bumps still boston had hard rock balls writing that show I swear
what did the g7 represent? i've been reading around recently and it was something about a baby powder penalty and the top world-class corps i think?

That's not a G7 chord. Maybe a G chord, but there's no seventh.
It's not even remotely a g7 chord.
(8 Times When Drill Writers Made Shapes and Words in DCI)
3:37, Ah yes, the drill move that reddit shit itself over.
do a version of just the Cavaliers
I don't think I would have enough source video, but I could try
The entirety of the 007 show perhaps???
Personally not a big fan of letters and numbers put into drill... =/
Me too but e= mc^2 was clean.
good Lord, Crown 2012...
Actually it's kind of disappointing to see DCI corps spell words. They're not Big Ten university marching bands. Well at least not yet LOL

Nice work.
Crown 2014 closer anyone? Someone probably told that drill designer, "go nuts."
Drill designer - "what should I put here?"
"Oh just whatever u want"
Drill designer - "if u say so..."
Star of Indiana?

What, no PR???
He only used corps who spelled out stuff
Christmas show was so frickin weird
Umm... Cavies?
12 crossmen but no cavies?
Cavies 2008 for sure
freaking cadets 11
Where are the cavaliers fam

zengali too!
@@sammata9431 especially zengali

They considered the drill writers as having "got it right" because they spelled words and/or had recognizable shapes on the field?
