We need way more cinemas like this.
With TV screens getting bigger and bigger and even decent homecinema projectors on a budget we need thaters that are unmatched with anything possible at home.

It's not only the size, that matters (pun intented) its more about the whole experience. For example the light show in leonberg. The sound. The seats. The entrance etc. Cinemas missed the point of transformation, when home cinema became more popular.

Yes, theaters have way too many downsides compared to watching at home that there's simply no way I'm going to go to a theater unless they provide a truly amazing experience.
No way I'm going to put up with people scrolling on their phones and possibly having a suboptimal seat etc. for a mediocre experience, when I can get something close enough in my own living room, at any time I want.

Been to this cinema for 20 movies this year already. Every screen is just great. Watched 5 movies in the IMAX (Oppenheimer 3 times, Avatar 1 and Avatar 2). Since I‘m wearing glasses 3D is usually a little weird for me but the 3D effect in the IMAX is so realistic that it tricked me in Avatar 1 a few times when I tried to wipe away some ashes flying around after the hometree was destroyed. The OMNIMAX in Vancouver is pretty big. 5 storeys tall and it’s dome-like curvature gets you full immersion. When seated it’s a behemoth and appears bigger because you sit much closer to it than IMAX, also it partially wraps up and around you so it fully surrounds your periphery. Only shoots 70mm film

Last Christmas they were showing the polar express at the Tropicana which is 90 minutes from my house, years ago when i was at the Tropicana i was looking at the theater, there was a security guard and i told him that I'd never seen the IMAX so he kindly let me look inside, it wasn't as big as this one but it was still huge, hopefully this Christmas they'll show the polar express again and if my depression isn't too terrible maybe i can make.

I Have personally been lucky enough to see Avatar 2 and (the replay of) Avatar 1 in this state of the art cinema. The auditorium itself is indeed world-class.
The only very unfortunate thing is that the English-language versions often run at unfortunate times like late Friday nights. By public transport, this is virtually impossible to do. But of course, Traumpalast itself can't do anything about that. But even if you have to see the German-language version because of this, I still highly recommend it!

I wonder what the driving factors in running that setup over a 70mm were, because at that scale, the film would have an even better image quality. I wonder if they couldn't push enough light?

I live near the normal crappy LieMax in the US, but I think even these LieMax have something special, the IMAX speakers.
They are designed so that no matter where you sit, you will get the full sound experience, something have to do with position tracking audio. It seems like this theater combined Dolby and IMAX into one, here in the US, most of the movie theaters have their own Dolby Theaters with Dolby Atmos, and the gimmick is that the seats can be inclined back, and there are transducers in the seats that makes you feel that the seat is shaking, and also better color contrast with the projector. Based on what you said in the video, seems like the seats will be shaking with the bass while the audience is watching the biggest IMAX screen in the world. I do wish this is what they do with all the theaters, I see no difference between the color contrast of a LieMax/IMAX and the Dolby Theaters, so why not just combine them.

Nice video! I'm personally missing some important IMAX information you haven't mentioned - what projectors are used (I believe it's Dual IMAX Laser), HFR, what type of 3D glasses are used, some comments about picture quality compared to other IMAX venues, aspect ration of the screen and therefore what formats can we anticipate (1.90, 1.85 for Avatar). What about 1.43:1 screenings - at this screen size, the 1.43 AR would be pretty much comparable to other venues such as BFI or Prague, but I believe they'll screen 1.90 versions only? Thanks for more details.
