I am retiring from NJ in 2 years. My wife and I decided to build a house in Horry County, we signed the contract at the end of 2020. 4 bedrooms/2 bathrooms on a half acre lot. It is between a golf course and a lake. We paid $215,000. 2023 that same model home is around $300,000. What we are going to pay in yearly property taxes is what we are paying monthly in NJ! We have had it with the high property taxes, overcrowding and snow/cold weather! We are actually here in SC this week enjoying the 80 degree weather 😊. It is very hard to leave, once we’re here but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Can’t wait for 2026!!
@ridinwithricky6444 Thanks for your note....very interesting! I know property taxes are high in your state, but that is REALLY high. I hope you enjoyed this beautiful weather we've been having all week (except today, first rain in weeks) Welcome to S.C If you are ever in the Charleston area, drop me a note, I'd love to say hi in person.
@drexellake4051 That's awesome. I lived in Cola for a while too, but I prefer the Lowcountry. LMK if you need help selling or buying I have great teams in both place. Thanks for watching....... Cheers!
We moved from Florida in 2021. Life is a cheaper here and more calm. Sold out 4 br 2 bath home in Pompano Beach for $280K (not a good area), rented a home in Florence for $1300/month and then we found a home in Darlington 3br 2 bath, pool, garage/shop in 1 acre land for $170K. Utilities are about the same as FL $200+ electricity, $185 cable/internet and about $30 water. We save on the mortgage which is about half of the house in FL and taxes. Healthcare we found it better than what we used to get in FL so far and the people are much friendlier. I love my retirement here.
@CarlosN-pq9zr Welcome to S.C.! I am glad you are enjoying our great state. Yes, real estate and just the cost of living in general is cheaper here than FL. And the people here are most definitely friendlier 😀 , Curious, where did you move from to FL?
Water and sewer combined in Lexington SC is above $200 per month. I have no idea why it’s so high? If anyone has an answer please respond. Only negative to this area. Otherwise it’s wonderful.
@@RetirementLifeUSASorry I didn't read the question right at first. I'm originally from Argentina where I came to FL in '83. I also live in Port Washington NY in '72 to '77 with my brother.
South Carolina offers a captivating blend of warm hospitality, scenic beauty, and rich historical charm that makes it a truly delightful destination especially for retirement
I never imagined that these places were so incredible and that I could retire in this way and thanks to you I can know and learn more about this, incredible video.
Yeah....Hilton Head and anywhere near there. Watch as your homeowners insurance SKYROCKETS with your proxility to the coast! Just like Florida. AND if you require flood insurance through FEMA, double whammy! They are now requiring flood insurance in Florida even if you live TEN STORIES UP in a Condo! Buyer beware.
Awesome, always good to know the pros and cons of doing something before you do it, this will help a lot of people, thanks. Good to know how good it could be to retire in South Carolina.
Great video! After visiting Florida a few weeks ago, we've all but ruled it out as a place to retire. South Carolina is looking better all the time. I would be interested in the book you suggested, but don't know how to get it. We are planning a trip their sometime this Fall.
@patriciaharper5735 I'm happy to send you the book....my email address is in the description of the video....send me your email and I'll get you the book.....Thanks!
Will be great that a lot of people move to SC because this will bring money and business, SC will be rich, ignorant people do not understand this point.
Thank you for bringing us this video, the information is very clear and precise and it is perfectly understood, it fed me with a lot of information that I did not know
The video convinced me that South Carolina is the ultimate retirement paradise. From its stunning landscapes to affordable living, it seems like the perfect place to enjoy the golden years.
This was exactly the information I was looking for, thanks for bringing us the video and explaining it very well, I understood every concept you describe in the video
Discover why South Carolina is hailed as the ultimate retirement destination in this captivating video, showcasing its serene landscapes and vibrant communities.
I think that South Carolina is the best place to retire. I liked knowing every detail, it is very useful information for those who are thinking of retiring.
Also read that people from up north think southerners are stupid people. Take a look at the inventions that have come from the south they just dont show how smart they are, so just bless your heart. We are not money grubbers like we find a lot from people up north. We help our neighbors and most of the time we actually know them, can you say that.
Bit of clarification regarding SC income tax. If you're over 65 you have to deduct your retirement income exclusion from the $15K Senior deduction. In other words, your total deduction is always going to be $15K regardless of whether your retirement income exclusion was $0, $10K, or some amount in between.
Excelente vídeo, não imaginei que a Carolina do sul fosse um lugar tão incrível, agora eu entendo o por que muitas pessoas se mudam para lá depois de se aposentam.
Not everyone who retires wants to live in purchased house. Some of us singles would like a nice apartment. I"m yet to see any video who trumps up retirement talk about retirement living in a "renting" environment.
I really wish yall would quir listing sc as no 1 place to live. We are full and fed up. Driving our housing market skyhigh, roads and schools are not up to the amount of people flocking here and trying to change everything. If you want a big city stay where you are . Most of us here like our small hometown feel and we speak ro our neighbors and people we pass on the street. We know we do not make the money they do up north but we love our state and land. And most of us love the land because it is what most of us made our livings off of . I would much rather see wooods than another subdivision. I heard one comment that if we couldn't afford houses in our state we should go somewhere else and make more, well all that showed me was a money hungry person with no loyalty to anyone is an s.o.b. like i said we love our state and that many of our families have been in the south for few hundred years so do not come to change us if that is your plan stay where you made your money and dont come here. We also firmly believe in the constitution, especially the bear arms because believe it or not some of us still actually hunt and kill animals for food........
You did a great job. I visited Myrtle Beach last year and I loved it. Recently after 25 years in LAPD. I’m living in North Carolina now, but I preferred South Carolina and in five years I’m moving to Myrtle Beach. Thanks for your video.

I pay $450 a year property tax on a new build 2000sf home in Lexington. I’d say that’s pretty damn good.

No-one ever talks about the crime in SC. People need to know.
Bad?
You can't say that and not elaborate if it's bad or not.
Yeah right.. I live in upstate SC, and the crime around where I am is pretty low relatively. Every place has crime, but what are you comparing?
Live in Lexington. Very low here. 😊

Well according to climatologists this would be the worst place to live .
Apparently, flooding is very bad in Charleston and Mt. Pleasant. And that's not counting in hurricanes.
