Thinking of Retiring to South Carolina?
I support and wish NC would do the same. It's not fair for Native in state residents to front the bill when prior to them coming, prices weren't as high. Therefore, they should front the cost. Or just stay where you were, or pick another state. There's plenty to choose from.
Nope.... no thanks
Ok
Any links to rental prices in these areas? I am sick of home ownership. Taxes, Insurance, Maintenance.. after years of it, I am ready to sell and just rent.
Yes, owning a house has definitely gotten more expensive. No links here but try Zillow or Redfin
I think I'll take a Pasadena on these towns.
Ok
10/13/24 Viewing; loving it!
Thanks, Thomas, for being a great supporter. Appreciate you!
No thanks…
Too Bad....it's great
Myrtle Beach has been hit with more hurricanes than other places in SC. More crime and drugs are relevant in this tourist area.
Definitely. It's the reason me and my wife are relocating to South carolina. I have a terminal illness and my wife and I have always truly loved the atmosphere around the beach. It's our happy place. So I've decided to relocate or sell my business and move to the beach so that me and my wife can enjoy our time together

Actually, we are full, Sir. Maximum capacity Please stop coming here
Lol....thanks for the PSA
Listen to the man. I lived 9 miles from the coast in Oregon. 9 miles and on a very steep hill. Yet we were always in danger from possible tsunami!
Wow!
10/2/24 Viewing; loved it!
This sounds sooooo nice! Thank you!
Wasn't planning on it.
That's too bad....for the all the negatives the positives outweigh them. Every State has its pros and cons
SC is a huge state so you can’t lump it all together!
No, but you can find them in places throughout the State
I do have concerns that coastal South Carolina will suffer tidal intrusion over the next few decades.
Not really sure what that means. Maybe we will lose more beachfront. We have been replenishing beaches here for years now.
Sure. I’ll explain. Low-lying areas like coastal SC, Southern Florida, etc will experience increasing coastal flooding events over the next few decades as sea waters rise and hurricane events become more severe. Most likely, local municipalities will update building codes to protect structures. We used to live in Half Moon Bay, CA. New construction within a few blocks of the ocean now require an unoccupied first floor as winter storms frequently cause coastal flooding a few time each year. I would be cautious about older construction close to the shore when purchasing a home or condo.
Then don't go there
Retiring to HHi next year. Can not wait!!!
That's awesome enjoy!
Great summary and honesty.....
Thank you!

I'm told bacon cancels out fried chicken and hush puppies 👍
Truth!
Beaufort doesn't really sound "cheapest".
It is cheaper than Hilton Head
F_ck off we are full
BELOVED PEOPLE, PLEASE DONT DO IT!!!!! THE WORST PLACE TO GO IS TO THE BEACH FRONTS.
What's wrong with them?
Out of touch for ordinary retirees. This may be ok for people retiring from Canada, California or New York City, but there is no way a typical retiree can afford the housing in these places. This is for the rich only.
Hartsville, Fountain Inn,Landrum
I’m a native of Charleston, South Carolina and I can tell you it is not cheap to live here. Also Rental rates are astronomical! It’s very difficult to drive in Charleston because if you do, you will be sitting in a traffic jam. So many people have relocated here maybe they were at one time living here back in the 60s 70s or 80s and they were stationed in the military here and they liked it so they decided to come back and stay. Southern hospitality is here we love visitors, but if you’re considering moving to Charleston, South Carolina, make sure that you know these things. Another downside is it’s extremely hot in the summer very high humidity. I’m not saying don’t move to Charleston. There are a lot of nice places, but it’s not inexpensive to live in South Carolina. Local taxes, state taxes, all add up on top of whatever your property is that you purchase. Insurance rates are extremely high here. Best wishes to anyone who decides to locate the South Carolina, but just be aware visiting here on a vacation is not the same as actually moving here. Thanks for the video.
Might be best to avoid coastal towns, to keep insurance costs lower.
Thank you for sharing your experience as a Charleston native! You're absolutely right that the cost of living in Charleston has skyrocketed, especially with rental rates and taxes. However, it’s worth noting that South Carolina as a whole can be more affordable than other parts of the country. While Charleston has become expensive, there are still many areas in the state where the cost of living is lower, offering a better balance between affordability and quality of life. As for the weather, that’s definitely a factor anywhere you choose to live! Charleston summers can be brutal with the humidity, but people looking to move here should keep in mind that weather varies across the state. Some may find the coastal climate appealing, while others might prefer the more temperate Upstate areas. Traffic, like you mentioned, is a big issue in Charleston, particularly with so many people moving to the area. For anyone considering relocation, it’s important to weigh all these factors carefully-Charleston has a lot of charm, but it comes with its challenges. Thanks again for sharing your insight, and for anyone deciding to move to the Palmetto State just drop me a note. my team and I would be happy to help.
Keith Will you please talk about Property Taxes Home insurance Car insurance State taxes Sales taxes And utilities These usually are the big chunk of the retirees income
There's too many people living in South Carolina angry about a war that ended 100 year ago. Rasism is the norm. No thanks to South Carolina. Thanks for the video!
Thanks.....but not sure, what S.C. you know, but that's not the norm
Love Lake views
Yes, very relaxing and peaceful
I liked and subscribed. Great video so far
Awesome....Thank You! Enjoy
Retired in Myrtle Beach in 2005. Agree with everything you said. One thing more is it’s literally built on a hill, from 11 feet to 33 feet high. Any town just north or south of Myrtle is called low country for a reason, 2 to 4 feet above sea level. Go to Surfside beach at a full moon on high tide, called a king tide. Even downtown Charleston will flood some streets. Then add a hurricane.
Very True.....even when you are not in a flood zone, I still recommend getting flood insurance
Well done! My retired AF buddies all say SC is military retiree tax friendly.
Thank You.....yes it is!
I am building in Conway 3 br 2 ba ranch with a 48x 50 garage looking forward to moving in springtime
Wow.....sound fantastic, enjoy! And thanks for watching

Thank You Thomas 👍
South Carolina is a cheap place to live because the water is still highly toxic because of the Dupont plant up river. Do your homework first people, please.
Are you sure it is S.C. or the N.C. Cape Fear situation?
I have never heard the town of Pickens pronounced as Pinkins.
Pickens...tomato....tomoto
Was Strom Thurmond a racist? The late U.S. senator’s legacy is under scrutiny as current and former students at the University of South Carolina call for renaming the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center on campus. Thurmond’s pro-segregationist views are well-known. He ran for president in 1948 as a third party candidate committed to keeping segregation alive in South Carolina and the South. He set the Senate’s filibuster record in 1957 in an effort to defeat a civil rights proposal. He voted against the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and he urged the FBI to investigate whether Martin Luther King Jr. was a communist. But some say he changed later in life. He was honored by an organization of South Carolina’s black mayors for his service to their communities. Some civil rights leaders praised him for his efforts to help Black South Carolinians. He voted to renew the Voting Rights Act in 1982 and for a federal holiday to honor King in 1983. In his last campaign for U.S. Senate in 1996, Thurmond received 20 percent of the Black vote, a high for Republicans in the state during that time. Jack Bass and Marilyn Thompson will discuss Thurmond during a live online forum hosted by The State on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 12 p.m. They have co-authored two books about Thurmond. The first, “Ol’ Strom, An unauthorized biography of Strom Thurmond,” was published in 1998. The second, “Strom: The complicated personal and political life of Strom Thurmond,” was published in 2005. Bass, a University of South Carolina graduate, is a former staff member of The State and The Charlotte Observer. He was twice named S.C. Journalist of the Year. A former journallism professor at the University of Mississippi, he is professor emeritus of humanities and social sciences at the College of Charleston. He has authored or co-authored six other books, including “The Orangeburg Massacre,” about the shooting deaths of three young men by state highway patrolman at S.C. State University in 1968, and “Unlikely Heroes,” about the Southern judges who turned the Brown court decision on schools into “a broad mandate for racial justice,” according to his website, jackbass.com. Thompson grew up in Greenville and is a former reporter at The Columbia Record, Columbia’s defunct afternoon newspaper, where she wrote a five-part series on Thurmond. She later worked for The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times and Reuters, as Washington bureau chief. She also is former editor and vice president of the Lexington Herald Leader in Kentucky. At The Post, she helped manage investigative teams that won Pulitzer Prizes in 1999 and 2000. She also broke the story of Strom Thurmond’s biracial child, Essie Mae Washington, in 2003. She is a senior editor at ProPublica.

SC is a great place when you have a great retirement like you and I SC overall is broke pitiful and depressed SC is a great place for northerners to buy a house and continue living their life around people that look like them Orangeburg is very depressed because of the poverty racism and police brutality on Black people SC is great for paying slave wages to former descendants of slaves Pray pray pray that place SUCKS drive 2 hours to Charlotte and you are in another World Bottom line there is a negative poor vibe throughout SC and the Whites think they are smarter and better than Blacks Republican states are to be avoided at all cost Lastly snooty while people in SC get off your white horse slavery his over so stop fighting the Civil War with your slick southern RACISM
I forgot to mention another fact as to why we chose SC. We fell in love with the culture and didn’t move here to change that aspect of SC. IMHO, if anyone is planning to relocate, they should move with the intention of embracing the culture & customs not with a desire to make changes.
Great point!
