    I’ve been using RUclips for years and I have never commented on any video but this the exception, I bought my bike last Saturday may 30 2024 from a guy that said it only needed new battery and choke cable, I went bought new battery plug hook it to bike and surprise bike would not even start cranking with this exact same problem it would turn all lights on but no crank I was totally disappointed I thought I got ripped off but then I came to RUclips looking for a solution and boom found this video this everything step by step and yes!!! I worked I got the bike running you save me money and time I can tell you have much I appreciate you making this video and by all the comments here I can tell many other found a solution as well 5 year since you uploaded this video and it’s still helping us riders!! THANK YOU

    First of all thank you so much because I had this exact issue on my Shadow ACE 750 with the difference mine actually always started after a few tries and there's no other video that showed exactly what my issue was like your video here. I did everything exactly as you showed and it worked perfectly. Nevertheless about a week after I cleaned it, the issue came back, just the same as before, the bike actually starts after a few tries, but the reason for this comment is to ask you if your case was the same or your ignition never had issues again. Hope you can get to see this because is 3 years after you uploaded the video, but it was worth the shot. Have a good one bro.

    When reassembling the switch (about 11:28 in the video), it is easy to get the black “circuit board” (the part with the wires on it) cockeyed in the white plastic cover, and then neither the headlight nor the starter work. It is easy to spot the error by looking at the end of the assembled switch opposite the starter button. The circuit board has to be parallel with the bottom (or top) of the white switch cover, not slanted.
    Remember to test the fix BEFORE putting everything back together again.
    Because I am, uh, “mechanically challenged”, I had difficulty putting the bottom housing back together with the top housing. Something seemed to be binding. I still don’t know what it was, but while fiddling and fiddling, something went click, and the two parts mated as they should.
    Thank you so much for the video, Daniel.

I was super careful like you said when separating the housing of the switch. I spent a $150 eight years ago for a whole new switch assembly. So thanks for this. I was told by a Honda technical advisor that starting the bike with the headlight switch on high beam can overload the starter switch's tiny copper strip and can "melt" it as well. So it's best to start the bike with the headlight switch on low. Also, it is imperative to use dielectric grease on those switch contacts to keep the switch moving smoothly and to prevent salt, dirt and corrosion of the contacts.

  • @Dadguy86
    @Dadguy86 3 года назад +2

    Nice fix, glad you got your bike running! You can use qd electronics cleaner to remove the old grime off of the switch and connections. That oily residue is dielectric grease. Should reapply a thin coating on the connection points to prevent corrosion and keep everything lubricated. I did a similar job today on the turn signal switch, after watching a RUclips video on it 😋.

Up until I started to do any repairs myself I’ve always gone to the Honda dealership I bought it from. They’ve made a few bucks off of me. I will likely save $200or more doing this myself. I am going to try this fix sometime this week. Thank you! Good luck and ride safely.

    Same thing is going on with my bike. I bought a new solenoid & still nothing is happening.maybe this will fix it.ok update yeah this was what happened to my bike.but mine didn’t go back together so easily.& a little compressor oil works.for lubing the parts.if you don’t have 3 in 1 oil.tiny screws arthritis made it a little difficult.have a lot of patience. I had to take it apart several times & continue to bend the contacts up.80 grit sand paper worked for me.mine didn’t go together this easily as I said.thanks for the video the information.helped immensely man.sure appreciate it. Wouldn’t of guessed that this little piece of brass & plastic could cause this issue.

    Late to the party here but this was also my issue, only instead of sandpaper I just gave it a good scrub down with my shirt to clean the connections got em sparkly just fine, also the connection on the button side has a spring under it that's supposed to push the connection out so it has a solid connection, mine was gummed up but worked it free so it sprung out like it should, thank you for this video I would have been chasing ghosts if not for it, haha!

    dirty or as not making contact. And, vexing to find as a no start prob|em. I have the view these units were of poor design. But as stock configure, I fit them as shown in this great post.
