I am not dancing around the points in these videos while I love four hour video essays about a topic no one has ever heard of, genre breakdowns do not need to be half an hour long
It's weird because my dad was listening the OG synthwave in the 80s and i now listening to music inspired by it. I was born in 2004 and this music gives me nostalgic vibe about the future our civilization had lost
synthwave is music made to put you in a nostalgia mindset of "remember thundercats" darkwave is music made to put you in a nostalgic mindset of "remember the crack epidemic"
as something of a synthwave expert ( i have listened to the music for a few years, i am definitely an expert now ) i'd say you did something of a good job with this video. however, a fair bit is missing. the word you were looking for was AESTHETIC, synthwave is both music and an aesthetic that goes with it. some very similar subgenre/genres that are like the siblings of synthwave are retrowave, vaporwave and darksynth, although darksynth is further from it in some ways. 80s-future-nostalgia-ey type stuff is specifically retrowave, also coming with more 80s-ey electric guitar. look up retrowave music mix and you will find what i mean vaporwave is another subgenre/very similar genre to synthwave. it sounds different too, i'd describe it as less nightdrive and more spacey or liminal. i'm not an expert in musical terms but if you listen to each of the genres you'll get what i mean, probably. vaporwave has had a massive resurgence as an aesthetic and a genre of music recently, with teens and adults with nostalgia alike enjoying the vibes. i see people getting these subgenres mixed up or confused very often
Yeah I agree, there are so many sub genres, synth wave and retro wave are the easiest to confuse, I’m not gonna act like the expert here but I can normally at least tell vaporwave and synth wave apart lmfao but thank you for clarifying this was needed I enjoy hearing people add on to these videos to cover what I can’t in two minutes
I find Kavinsky insanely overrated. He’s French Touch not Synthwave. He only gets lumped in because of Drive. A lot of his stuff was mixed by Daft Punk directly
And sovietwave is a memories we never had of a future we forever lost
The time capsule hit me hard man...
Same with fashwave
