I think this aesthetic is fascinating. It both resembles very little of Outrun at a glance, but uses elements that are thematically and intrinsically linked with Outrun as a game. Visual symmetry, high-end cars, a blend of coastal and urban Americanised landscapes all encapsulated within an artistic style that exudes the FEEL of Outrun as an experience: exciting, immersive and relaxing.

lol I needed this tutorial, thanks! I was around and played Outrun a couple times but didn’t know the connection. I see Outrun art all over the place and was wondering the specifics. Having grown up in the 80s neon always feels like the right move to me.

Excellent video! I came for the 80's aesthetic breakdown and stayed for the historical negation, definitely didn't see that coming. Drive and Hotline Miami were seismic events that were, of course, then copied ad infinitum until we're in Taylor Swift's current soundscape (which I actually like but we'll save that for another therapy session...)

Why the fuck aren't people liking this? Good job Nick. I remember playing the shit out of Outrun in the arcade. Sitting in the car playing this thing was awesome. Though the game wasn't great (preferred Spy Hunter), it was still a compelling experience. Getting to new areas was a buzz
This took a turn, but I really liked it. Both aspects of it =)
The only thing you got absolutely factually wrong was... Outrun and Synthwave cannot die. They are eternal.... Otherwise great work, this was an excellent video.
