- Wow, this video took a long time to make. I'm not sure how many hours I've spent but the editing alone was at least 30.
In this video i dissect and talk about Vaporwave/Outrun styles in video games and which games have inspired the retro aesthetic movement. I mainly focused on Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Hotline Miami, but also Trials of the Blood Dragon and outdrive. This game is a gem. Completed the game with all the announcements and finished the normal speedrun. Yet to complete the hard mode speedrun.

I played a game in a site that was an outrun aesthetic, 80's sports cars, gradient Sun, grid mountains and low poly cities and other bunch of cool stuff. Unfortunately, I forgot it's name, i wish i could have a DeLorean to know it's name..
I think VA-11 HALL-A could also be considered an aesthetic game as it has some cyberpunk/outrun elements to it

Awesome video, especially the soundtrack. It's a shame Outrun/Retro Aesthetic games are pretty rare. I would say that for a lot of gamers Vice City was part of the reason for the love of Retro Aesthetics, before it was cool. I was expecting that this style would gain a lot of popularity after Vice City, but it kind of faded away until Drive. Now it's almost mainstream style.

Fantastic game, I think it's much closer to outrun than vaporwave given its darker color environment.
I think it’s considered outrun because of its use of neon colors and storyline,also the thematic new Mecca environment

Nitronic Rush is a pretty damn good outrun game for a freebie made by students. And its "sequel" Distance, while not as Outrun, is even better.

Katana Zero, Furi and Ruiner are recommended too but the games mentioned in the video are the most important ones.

@@PINKAS1 yeah, i think it's quite heavily inspired, it has the same fast pace combat one hit death difficulty as well, so the gameplay is pretty similar

Hotline Miami probably is the best game I have ever played. The gameplay is fun and challenging, the artstyle is gorgeous, the synthwave music (especially the dark synth in HM2) is fantastic and keeps you motivated, the characters and their different reasons for their actions are interesting and the story is just incredible if you're willing to spend a little time figuring out what the hell actually happened and how everything fits together in those two games.

Broken Reality is probably one of the most aesthitically dedicated vaporwave games I have ever played, give it a look!

A vaporwave game where you play as a "data wing" in a computer plus it has a good story

(They also have a soundtrack of music that was in game)(none of the songs played in game are theirs though but that's not a bad thing,the music is really good too)
Scarface: The World Is Yours. This game really catches the 80's Miami aesthetic well, sometimes better than GTA: Vice City does, I highly recommend it!
I would say that GTA Vice City Stories is better due to the empire building feature but it's a matter of opinion. xd
@@NotAvailablexd Yeah but that game felt lackluster in other departments instead, it felt like a bit of a downgrade from the original Vice City even, but maybe that's because I went from VC on PC to VCS on PSP.
@@Badguy292 Maybe but I still think VCS is better than VC because of the following reason: better story (subjective but I found Vic to be a better protag than Tommy), the map (more neons so it felt more 80s imo and more improvements), cool empire building mechanic, better missions. Just my opinion tho. Yeah, the transition from using the mouse for aiming to a controller is pretty bad but I got used to it fast (played it on PPSSPP on PC with higher resolution as well).
@@NotAvailablexd Not a bad choice, I don't have a PSP emulator but yeah, the Story was less cliché but I guess I just enjoy the Scarface-like ending of VC with Tony blasting all his enemies down. it was satisfying.

Well i'm late to this video but i need to talk about other game with a very Vaporwave style (at least in presentation) and is one of the most real games i ever played, Hypnospace Outlaw, is a detective/graphic adventure simulation of a 90's computer but this thing is loaded when you are dreaming, the journey happen in a version of the internet for that computer where you can read the other people blogs and all of that feels so real.
Verlet Swing, Black Future '88, Furi, Slipstream, maybe Void Bastards to name a few more sweet little gems
Crime Wave IS the 80s and godfather of outrun/vaporwave. It should be mentioned.
There needs to be more video games based or themed on these genres.

“Heimat Defender: Rebellion” should be in there tbf. It presented a dystopian future, it’s the only game ever banned from Steam for political dissidence. Others have been banned for being gross of course, but even assassination simulations games involving “the orange man” aren’t banned.

You need to bump up the bitrate of your gameplay recordings, low bitrate makes them look low quality pixelated fuzzy messes. If you are recording with OBS, pretty sure there is an option in the video settings to change it. Not sure exactly how much you should set it for, as it will increase the size of the file, but a bitrate of 5000 is standard unless you have an older CPU.

Vice city started the whole 80s revivial. Throughout the 2000s the 80s started making a come back eventually exploding in 2011

While Furi has some Synth soundtrack, it's theme nor setting are related to that genre

Outrun is more like a subgenre of synthwave nowdays. There is Dark Synth, Summer Synth, Space Synth and so on.
@Phoenix 𝙾𝚙𝚎𝚗 𝙼𝚢 PROFILE I thinke the AESTHETIC ( with all caps always) meme is from the Vaporwave scope. Katana Zero is on the same tier as Hotline Miami. True AESTHETIC would be things like Hypnospace Outlaw and Broken Reality.

Hotline Miami takes inspiration from 80s styled genres similar to vaporwave and outrun, but it is not either of those.

Don't feel bad, TofBD frustrated me as well. The premise and aesthetic of the game were wonderful, taking inspiration from comics of the period rather than film. But the gameplay really did feel like it was tailored more towards fans of the Trials series rather fans of synth or outrun.
I think Mass Effect deserves a mention. At least the first and second ones.

Also Crackdown 3 in the further levels is like vaporwave inspired architecture!! It's really cool. I'd honestly just skip the game play and steal a car and drive. Just explore the city. Don't stop moving or the cops will find you and kill you.
