Finally somebody bringing justice to us all by describing Vaporwave and the other similar genres and how they are different in a way that's easier to understand than when I try to. Your content is all I need when it comes to explaining these things to others as well as grasping at other genres better myself.
A big difference between the two genres is the music itself: lo-fi has a really intimate, minimalistic approach, whereas the amount of reverb and samples in vaporwave don't tend to spark the same feeling. A great part of the samples used in the Lo-Fi genre are from jazz and japanese songs(anime influence), that have a really soft and homelike chord progressions(lots of II-V-I) rahand resemble a feeling that hits close to home. The dialogues used in Lo-Fi are a way to show the most vulnerable parts of a character, that in most part is portrayed as "happy" along the series, cartoon, anime, etc., revealing their more realistic side. Vaporwave is a genre that aims to criticise the society(capitalism->consumerism) as Pinkas said. Lo-Fi is a genre that aims to express the feelings of emptiness, sadness or happiness, but always in a mild manner- it is a genre made for you to see yourself in the music, video, etc. An example about the jazz samples ruclips.net/video/3EThsK13fJY/видео.html (tomppabeats- the way she) Lo-Fi ruclips.net/video/IgbPHTBiAVQ/видео.html (chet baker- i get along without you very well) Jazz

My guess is that actual vaporwave music is pretty hard to find (there's macintosh 420, HOME, and then it's hard to find other famous stuff) whereas lo-fi is EVERYWHERE. It's easier to make I guess and it's all over soundcloud. So after people made the first Simpsonwave videos with Home, they started using lo-fi music and found it worked just as well. So basically simpsonwave kept the aesthetics but changed the music from vaporwave to lofi to have access to much more content. (btw I don't think Home ever made music meaning to make vaporwave, it just happened to be exactly what vaporwave sounded like and he became an ambassador)

The whole idea of vaporwave to me is like strolling in a mall in the late 80s while ads play in the background. lulled by idealistic optimistic ideas for the future. that's why I like Vaporwave as a whole. it's the idea that everything's gonna is ok and that is what I need right now in my day to day life. A cosmic oasis. A freeing melody that's set apart by others. Maybe I need to picture riding in an elevator with my mom for a little while. I like that as cultures move onward into this insanity that is the age of information facilitated by the internet, there is someone who is here to try to categorize and by recognizing this stuff, you give it credibility and make it less fringe... I know a Chilean economist (don't ask me how) who once stated that 'there's no new music now, everyone's just repeating themselves.' and I didn't follow that because I thought Mac Demarco was at least different and with chillhop and vapourwave acting as their own parodies of nostalgia and aesthetic, there is a need for philosophical (and by that, I mean artistic) nature to the way things are made and consumed - I think it's the difference between the mass produced media that been automated so well there is hardly a shred of creativity left, and the media that says something loud enough that we see more than just tunes and colours to it, but we see a truth in it, something with meaning - and I think that plays a much bigger role in defining music than many people currently think. Your channel is great - it's because of this channel that I feel these things aren't so anonymous and amorphous but are their own thing. Their own category that really is unlike previous. I only wonder how this is going to carry on as we grow older and start analysing new music without the kind glaze of nostalgia to help us enjoy it more.

You could also be in a perpetual commerical break, listening to feverish music play over the muffled phone while the call is on hold. I find there are different types of vapor wave a s t h e t i c s, probably because of the lofi influence. Vaporwave, like the video said, is very consumerism and such. Synthwave- its retro. You are playing old vidya gaem and the tv is boxy with a large antenna sticking straight up. The couch is old and tan. There are books and cans everywhere. The music is often hyped but controlled. ~~We are just slaves~~

Is it just me or are there so many similar genres and subgenres?
I mean like Vaporwave,Lo-Fi,Outrun,Synthwave,Future Funk.
future funk is a subgenre of vaporwave
Very helpful, can you recommend any similar videos about Future Funk or Mallsoft?
Martin Roberts Hey there, working on one right now my dude. Hopefully I will finish it by thursday
@@PINKAS1 I think it's great and quite unusual that someone is talking about aesthetics in relation to all these genres, at least directly. Your take on how Outrun differs from VW was really useful, even though as you say in the Lofi video there's ultimately a lot of aesthetic crosstalk between the styles.
