I can’t say I really consider it an official ‘sub-genre’, but sovietwave hits different for me, for some reason. I’m from Eastern Europe and having parents who grew up in the Soviet Union has made me strangely attached to and appreciative of an era and state I never lived in.
Also, my favorites are as follows: Mallsoft VHS Pop Hypnagogic Drift Broken Transmission/Signalwave Faux-Utopian Utopian Virtual Late Night Lo-Fi Plunderphonics Maybe even Future Visions
Future visions was totally the customization menu soundtrack for early 2000’s ps2 games, and late night lofi sounds like when you’re super messed up at a party and trying to balance surviving and having a great time
Ah future visions!! That basically the sub genre I was searching for! Always wanted to find music that match that atmosphere but could not put a name on it thanks !
Really good examples! Although I am struggling to find the difference between signalwave and broken transmission. Maybe some explanations could help too? Anyway great vid
I think the main difference is that signalwave is meant replicate the sound of switching to different channels on the television and broken transmission sounds like it's a broken transmission but it's really too similar thats why the 2 are combined most of the time. I don't even know if its really true tbh but its what I remember from different videos explaining it
What yall thinking? Its gotta be late nite lofi for me, i cant explain it but im overwelmed with this really chill feeling. I also get the sudden urge to get in a can and just drive lol
Ooo baby Future Funk will always be my one true love but hearing all of these is amazing cause sometimes after a good jam session and of just vibin with Future Funk it's always great to chill out with something more mellow
My favorite is hypnagogic drift (which can also be called dreampunk) because it generally has a cyberpunk feeling to it (which is why 新しい日の誕生 is my favorite album of all time).
You cant, and there are exponentially more vaporwave genres. Slushwave, dreampunk, weathersoft, romwave, post-internet, post-vaporwave, dark ambient eccojams, etc.
I consider them to be slightly different, with signalwave being based on Japanese culture (think Freed from the World by New Deluxe Life or Sunflower Image by Asutenki) and broken transmission to be based on western culture (think Pharma by Nmesh or Wasted Digital by Western Digital)
Damn, forgotten memories of playing ecco on Sega genesis just came flooding back to me. The game music was really eerie and unnerving to me as a child but I imagine it would be euphorically nostalgic to hear it now. Wonder if there's anywhere to play it... Edit- signalwave should be illegal. wtf, just no .-.
The two things that this somewhat list is missing is lofi because it popularity and dark ambient Vaporwave which is a real but oddly Vaporwave genre...
I fail to see how there’s any meaningful distinction between mainline vaporwave and any of these so-called subgenres besides vaportrap, future funk, vapornoise, and hardvapor. In fact, I believe mallsoft and VHS pop are simply synonyms for mainline vaporwave. An actual subgenre of vaporwave besides the aforementioned would be ambient vaporwave, such as the music released by 2814.
Like late night lofi, but usually uses more funky sources. Albums like MIDNIGHT RADIO DELUXE by EPSON, Zip Drive by Diskette Park, and even Daily Night Euphoria by Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza can all be considered VHS Pop.
@@polygonplus9999 It seems like "music" literally anyone can do. I get it, though. It's meant to be consumed high. I can't think of any other way to vibe to it.
2020 and people still love vaporwave
How can't you love vaporwave
rallceu Yes
rallceu the genre is still growing
for life
Because it's awesome

Mall soft is probably all time vapor faves. Its like a shopping ad, now with more vapor and more *W A V Ə*
Vapornoise just sounds like future funk with a distortion effect
hmmm good perspective るぇこ
Puture Punk.
Signalwave is hell
Honestly sounds like plunderphonics kinda
tbh every genre is improved with more distortion
My Favorites
VHS POP- 1:30
Hypnagogia Drift- 5:20

Danny Gonna have to agree with you. I love that low quality VHS aesthetic.
every subgenre of vaporwave is personalized
*obligatory comment about how this makes me so nostalgic about a time I was never alive to witness*
*obligatory a e s t h e t i c*
vaporwave is deja vu the genre
It makes me nostalgic for a time I only saw through the lens of a little kid.
Eccojam is amazing
Also, my favorites are as follows:
Mallsoft
VHS Pop
Hypnagogic Drift
Broken Transmission/Signalwave
Faux-Utopian
Utopian Virtual
Late Night Lo-Fi
Plunderphonics

Ugh I am so happy you included pizza day(VHS Pop) in this, that's one of my favorite vaporwave songs
Favorite vaporwave genres:

hypnagogic drift and hardvapour
Hypnagogic Drift is one of my favs!
Hardvapour was the biggest failure

@ Agreed!

i didnt think you'd throw in broken transmission/signalwave let alone nmesh's climbing the corporate ladder, super buzzed bout that
Dude I appreciate this I’m glad u made it
My favourite Subgenres of vaporwave
Signalwave
VHS POP
Futurevisions
Mallsoft
Vapornoise

some of them are soultouching while others annoy the shi outta you
What yall thinking? Its gotta be late nite lofi for me, i cant explain it but im overwelmed with this really chill feeling. I also get the sudden urge to get in a can and just drive lol
Really enjoyed this, liked and subbed :-)
thank you レばッ
I love mallsoft! Ik it’s a nightmare to most. But I want to be stuck in a infinite mall with no people, just the mall, and the mallsoft music.
Ooo baby Future Funk will always be my one true love but hearing all of these is amazing cause sometimes after a good jam session and of just vibin with Future Funk it's always great to chill out with something more mellow
Need more of "FUTURE VISIONS".
Buena descripción, saludos de chile 👽✌
Saludos!
2021 and people still love vaporwave
Without vaportrap we wouldn't have an amazing ps2 remix
Mallsoft is just so elite!
I dont get what was memey about vapormeme it was just good
VHS pop sounds interesting
Shit like vapornoise is why I'm shy to tell people I listen to vaporwave in person
My favorite is hypnagogic drift (which can also be called dreampunk) because it generally has a cyberpunk feeling to it (which is why 新しい日の誕生 is my favorite album of all time).
Hypnagogic drift is extremely underrated, I'm glad to see others know what it is
hypnagogic drift is not dreampunk.
I love vaporwave
I don't know why but I love Mallsoft
Future Funk!!
Brutalwave bro
In the end, that's all same thing, but....
But all good ♡
Noone :
11:13 :T I G E R P A N Z E R
Mallsoft give me life
Vaponoise sounds like holding the fast forward button on the stereo for too long and it says "fuck it"
vaportrap is deadass earthbound lmao
Slushwave is probably more relevant than almost all of these genres nowadays
not using 2814 as an example for hypnagogic drift is a crime
Hey man, nice video. Also, is the vapormeme song a remix of "hey somebody"? (Waterfront Dining, album: Shine)
Great recommendation! Thanks!
cool
what in the world have I stumbled upon
I love the video, but you have to put a 0:00 Timestamp for them to work
A mi me gusta el future funk y night tempo :)
Future Funk is amazing!
@ yea (❁´◡`❁)
I wish I could be friends with you guys
I would like to order 1 Mallsoft and 1 Late Night Lofi to go please thanks
cara no momento do vaportrap tu poderia ter lançado um sega dreamland do vaperror, som brabo demais
Boa recomendação!
sai mah, num me faz rir q eu sou gòtico
nobody asked but I'm creating a new subgenre called nostalgia wave
another genre Metwave a mix of vaporwave with rock and heavy metal, particularly glam metal.
Broken transition is kinda like slow Techno BPM
Most let them are not subgenres, but styles of other subgenres
dope
slushwave or phantomwave???? They are not in the video. those are so important and beautiful!
do one for jazz, plz.
Forget it, I'm dumb!
And the ambiental vaporwave? :/ example: Eco Virtual :b
hypnacpgic drift is basically ambient vaporwave
that was not hypnacogic drift what he showed here
open.spotify.com/playlist/1j3qDLfvhzgkyECqy3B3sT?si=l35aAcdfTP-XsT_d4wwSqw&
how are you even supposed to keep track of all this?
You cant, and there are exponentially more vaporwave genres. Slushwave, dreampunk, weathersoft, romwave, post-internet, post-vaporwave, dark ambient eccojams, etc.
Mallsoft is the best
The track choice for late night lo-fi seemed a bit too upbeat for the norm in that genre imo. But otherwise not a bad selection
it's slushwave
Te falto el : L A B O R W A V E
Slushwave, is not that a kind of Vaporwave? Simpsonwave too? I have a hard time defining all of these styles except for maybe 'Vaportrap'.
someone knows what is the sample of Annulus - A New Dawn?
Do synthwave, outrun, retrowave ect vaporwave?
Synthwave/outrun/retrowave are not the same as vaporwave
telepath is slushwave hello
Where is the video at 04:11 from?
I'm wondering the same thing
Isn't Signalwave and Broken Transmission the same thing?!
I think they are the same thing

Honestly some of the track choices don’t represent the genres well and signalwave is a great example
0:10 real GTA:VC mall
What is hypnagogic pop? Is it different from hypnagogic drift?
2021
The two things that this somewhat list is missing is lofi because it popularity and dark ambient Vaporwave which is a real but oddly Vaporwave genre...
I still have no idea of wtf vapormeme is
slapping greeko-roman statutes and neon lights together until it looks like a e s t h e t i c s
YEEEES エ桜ぃ
Slushwave?
I fail to see how there’s any meaningful distinction between mainline vaporwave and any of these so-called subgenres besides vaportrap, future funk, vapornoise, and hardvapor. In fact, I believe mallsoft and VHS pop are simply synonyms for mainline vaporwave. what describes something as vapormeme? pls help
I think it's something about making vaporwave music without a context in a frivolous/ironical way.
Is "broken transmition" intentionally spelled that way?
It is Dan Mason, not Manson.
You forgot about VIPERWAVE
or some yung lean, drain gang shit :p to be honest i loved this.
What is VHS pop?
Like late night lofi, but usually uses more funky sources. Albums like MIDNIGHT RADIO DELUXE by EPSON, Zip Drive by Diskette Park, and even Daily Night Euphoria by Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza can all be considered VHS Pop.
Future Funk разделяет эстетику, но не музыкальную часть, как по мне.
Ecco jams is my new hate object
All of them are great but Vapornoise just seems obnoxious and lazy.
Well, kind of like the signalwave example, its more about the experience than the music. I take it you're not a big fan of noise music.
@@polygonplus9999 It seems like "music" literally anyone can do. I get it, though. It's meant to be consumed high. I can't think of any other way to vibe to it.
You forgot sythwave, chillwave and retrowave
Not sure, but those genres aren't vaporwave. They're like a "sister"/"cousin" genres.
@ They are not even closely related in terms of music so i'm happy you didn't include them in here, good job!
@@rover8835 Thanks! (this is my other account, for some reason I can't switch for the other.)
