I see him as, a kid that his parents wanted him to become a doctor, but used his brain power for jokes. And it is AMAZING. He is doing something HE wanted to do, and the world is so thankful.
Joe is one of the very best comedians in the world today. His understanding of world events and laying them out in such a way as to make us laugh - is a true talent. Awesome job Joe !!!
Teacher: Hello students welcome to USA, in the first class I want you to tell me what you want to learn from USA. Chinese overseas student: Sir we came here to learn the advanced western brainwashing propaganda metnods. Teacher: Baloney! We have democracy and freedom, we are not brainwashed. Chinese student: Brilliant, exactly this!
Lol the Chinese student usually heads to the US thinking its an advanced and tolerant beacon for all mankind and that they are hard done by in China. The most patriotic Chinese person is one who travels their (and other western nations) to study.
Most of the time its the tiger mom's who push their kids to become someone with a high status career, but only some broke away and did something they love
Yeah man at first I'm like cool this Asian dude is branching out and became a comedian. Then I heard he did it after getting a PhD and then I rolled my eyes. I was like fuck now Asian parents have a reason to say, " If you wanna follow your dreams you gotta have a PhD first"
How about Rebel Wilson? Attorney of law become comedian. Any stereotype there? Parents fault too? Joe and Rebel are adult. They can choose what they want to do with their life. Grow up and don't blame it on parents. They did their best for their kids all their life.
You are a Hero to me. You are doing a really good thing for everyone. Alot of misconceptions about China. Being there myself, nothing is really what they say about China or its not as bad as they say.
Joe‘s comedy is quite better in English language than his mother language! And his talk in this video is more frankly expressed. he’s more Made-In-USA now
dirac bracket Though China isn’t half as free as countries like the US, China does have a free market, private companies, and businesses that work with other countries with the world. It’s more accurate to call China as Socialist rather than Communist, since pure communism only existed in the mind of a few.
dirac bracket LMAO, before you judge China, go to know China first and by yourself not from Fox of CNN. In China, most universities have the access to RUclips Facebook even porn hub without any “wall” block, BTW we can build our own VPN if you’re not on campus. this guy is great, one of his jokes, two Chinese men are taking the history test and a question asked what is Roe V Wade, they huddle with each other and turn around and says "Two ways of getting to America"
These days all it takes to tell a joke is to have the courage to tell the truth that people are too afraid to tell with an innocent face (Joe Wong) or an angry face (Ronny Chieng) or a cheeky face ( Gervais).
Joe is a 100% American standup comedian style. It is hard for him to be adopted and survive in China without localizing. But he will be no longer Joe Wong with these changes. A flower can’t bloom in the desert.
He's a genius, and I really love that, either way, he leaves a lesson on Chinese culture when he does stand-ups in the US. People in that country are living in a thicj bubble of intercultural ignorance, they barely understand people outside their border.
Few people knew about Joe Wong until he did a roast for Joe Biden?? He got that gig because of his national TV debut on David Letterman the year before. After that he became more popular because Ellen Degeneres loved him.
Joe’s comedy in China is not that popular. He kinda lost his magic when he tells jokes in Chinese. Maybe it’s because Chinese people don’t know American humor so he has to change his style. We really love his talk shows in the US. However, his Chinese shows like “is it true” are really boring.
GE GAO chinese humour is more dramatic... everything always has to be set up like an old school performance. It’s so boring but my parents seem to love it while I zzzz
I think it is because his stand up comedy style really is more related to international affairs and immigrants but those are not really things that can strike a string in Chinese populations.
Watched some of his shows in China before. Have to say that he really does a better job when telling jokes in English. Most of his Chinese jokes are just not as funny. (In my opinion at least)
Harnett Jack He loves telling jokes about controversial issues. That can be done in the US. He has a deep understanding of controversial topics such as race ,immigrants, gender and politics. But in China, he can’t talk about any of those.
The reason for his show not being popular in China is mainly because of the sense of culture of contemporary Chinese. I don’t believe it’s a issue of background. It’s just a matter of time. After a few years when the cultural environment in China undergoes enough development, Chinese would of course understand the core information of his jokes.
Even though he has stayed at US for more than 20 years, he still has China mindset. You could see his post on China Weibo on condemning Hong Kong protesters. He didn’t stand with Hong Kong people to fight for their human rights.
Not saying Trump can't be made fun of, but I think lots of Chinese immigrants voted for him because they know what has been going on factually in this country and they know Trump is the vanguard of the American spirit.
@@tonnyangkawan2168 truth is mean and ignorant is bliss? When a mother tells her son that he is fat, she may be misconstrued as mean spirit. But only somebody that close to you would have the guts to say what is needed to be said.
This guy sounds perfect for these times. Political side note: Show me where you get your information and I can confidently predict 5 or 10 other things about you.
It is hard to do his work in China because it is not ok to publicly make fun of the president. I am from China, totally understand his so called “American humour”. It is not we do not understand the humour, it is sometimes you can’t really talk about the politics as they do in America. In terms of free speech, China is better than before, but still a long way to go. Hope all the best to my motherland.
Loved your joke about having a lot in common with white guys and that we are all different shades of Mexicans 😂 Please make more racial jokes, they are really funny! Joe's English jokes are exponentially funnier than his Chinese jokes.
Joe you are great !!! Brilliant comedian. And you don’t swear. It’s sad about racism . That called you that word by your fellow comedian. It’s not just on here down under . I know racism is palpable in the US. You’re better than that. They are just ignorant uneducated bullies. Keep up the great work Joe.
I think the fact that people criticize for making fun of trump in such a way might be because they support him, but it also might be simply because they don’t get the meaning of the adverb “democratically” in front of “elected”. Part of the point of a democracy is that you can make fun of him
It may have come as a surprise to Joe that the sense of humor is very different in China compared to America. I watched his shows both in America and in China. His jokes resonate much better with the American audience. In China? Just so so. But I have to say his shows in America are excellent. They are not funny in his own style but also carry messages that make you think while you are laughing. But for a Chinese to create his own comedy show is beyond hard in America. The general attitude of Americans towards Asian comedians cannot easily be changed overnight. That's the hard reality. I hate to say this, the future for Joe is not bright. But we do love his jokes and he is a very intelligent man.
Joe Wong needs his Netflix special. This man is a gem!
We should start petition for this.....

"I feel like America is my wife and china is my mother. And now they dont get along" omg lmfao
tRUMP had something to do with it
I'm a westerner who's heart is in the East. God bless this man for trying to help bring peace.
He's amazing!! He is the only comedian that I know that does not speak one swearing word and is still funny as hell.
BT Trade true
Most importantly, not involving drugs, racism and sex.
That resonates with me. I only admire those who deals the humour card with wit and not vulgarities. He is so above the rest!
There are others! Keep looking, such as Trevor, a South African!
He melded clever and intelligence into his comedy
Didn't think I could like this guy more than I already do. I was wrong. Legend!
Yeah, in the beginning, and when he starts to run out of jokes and get political, he'll be just like other mainstream comedians and talk show hosts.
