For The Hunger Games, Pollux was an Avox (thats why he used sign language) and he was a pretty good part of Mockingjay
Some changes had to be made to allow for the movie to fit it’s runtime
0
You spelled bollocks wrong and it's actually an English term for testicles.
Your mom was an Avox!
He's a hottie too! I do think they waited too long to introduce the idea.
I dont know that you can say cut out, but Katniss' mental health is definitely explored more in the books than the movie and while i can understand why they left it out (time), I wish they hadn't. I feel exploring her PTSD and grief were important
Indeed and at the end of the book she is very badly scarred, her insides matching her outsides as it were and they live together so as to be away from people. It's a much happier ending in the film
I read the book before they made the movies, and I thought Katniss came off as a whiny indecisive irritant in the book, but came off pretty well in the movies, where she seems like someone who has PTSD but isn't just taking it out on everyone around her.
I was disappointed that the avox element was cut. They are important to the Hunger Games series.
It does suck that they left it out. The only mentions we got were the masked servants in the capital, and Pollux who escaped from the capital after being made an avox.
I was disappointed in the lack of commitment to the book's story I devoured the books as soon as I got my hands on them. As someone who can't get past certain types of writing quirks it was wonderful to read a story that kept me fascinated. Even with the incidents involving the younger sister, if you've read the books you know, that helped in solidifying her final resolutions and the revolution she knew had to happen. I was somewhat surprised by the changes but I can't say they were unexpected, but it causes the story to lose that message and even grants room for sympathy on the capital in ways.
I'm more disappointed that WhatCulture thinks "avox's" is plural.
Bane's injuries are in the film, it's explained when Bruce is in the pit/when Talia is revealed. It's explicitly said the mask is for pain relief.
The reason for Bane's mask and a bit of his backstory is in the Dark Knight Rises though. He was Talia Al Ghul's protector how was severely beaten and disfigured whilst giving her time to escape from the prison, the mask then helps with his pain
"The couple talking about their differing tastes in sausages"
Tell me I'm not the only one amused by that line.
With the Avox subplot one of the Avox that Snow had waiting on Katniss was actually a former peacekeeper from Distract 12 that she knew and considered a friend. The other Avox waiting on them also had a connection to Katniss but it’s not clear if Snow knew that. He mostly likely picked her to make the Avox a matching set (both were redheads). After reading the prequel book about Snow it’s not surprising he’d do anything and everything to make Katniss scared or uncomfortable, she most likely looked very similar to his first love (who I think was Katniss grandma or great-grandma’s on her dad’s side!) who he also saw as betraying him.
I'm so afraid to reading the prequel book, i feel like is gonna ruin things for me
I don’t think Katniss was related to Lucy Grey because I don’t think that she survived or Snow would have known about it. I think Katniss is related to Maude Ivory because their house is at the end of the seam like the coveys house and Katniss’ dad knew Lucy’s songs and it was stated in the book that Maude remembered every song she ever heard.
@@jessicaconkey8574 yeah, she's definitely descended from one of the covey. Especially with the song
they mention how Avox's have their tongues ripped yout but what about their eyes?
in catching fire the girl with the bandage around her face looked like she had more than her tongue removed
What about Saavik’s subplot in Star Trek 2 where it was explained she was half Vulcan and half Romulan? This would explain her tears at Spocks funeral. Also in Star Trek 4 she was left behind on Vulcan without explanation. This was supposedly because she was pregnant with Spocks child because of the Pon-far ritual (basically sex) with the younger Spock found on the Genesis planet in Star Trek 3. The audience were left guessing.
These are definitely good ones. I know Saavik being half Romulan was part of the novelization for ST 2. I can't remember if her pregnancy was explicitly covered in the ST 4 novelization.
Also, you know apostrophes aren't used to make plurals, right? It would be "Avoxes," NOT "Avox's."
Definitely! I grow absolutely weary seeing this time and again.
@She Who Shall Not Be Blamed well, then it would be the Avoxes' subplot, as there are many of them
They did it twice in this video: They also wrote "Kaiber Crystal's" in the Star Wars section.
The Wizard of Oz. The witch says "I've sent a little insect along to take the fight out of them", which is supposed to cue the whole "Jitterbug" musical number. But the song was cut from the movie (probably because including a jitterbug number makes the setting a "modern day" 1939 instead of the fantasy 1901) so the line makes no sense.
I think they cut Jitterbug for time mostly. It's a pity that there isn't good surviving footage of it.
Actually the jesus ingineer idea explain why the last ingineer wants to destroy all the humans better ! (instead of just saying "the ingineer got mad that his creation succeed to get to him" or "this is one bad scientist that stayed alone in the planet".... (
No movie has Batman movie has EVER given Bane's story the justice it deserves. The whole Knightfall Arc should be a trilogy in its own right, but alas, Nolan tried to condense it down to the essence and cram it into the last bit. As for Hunger Games, while bits were certainly left out, I feel that overall they did justice to the source material - better than most book to movie films I've seen.
Goodies also had the octopus part cut. The only bit of it is when Data talks about it to the news at the end.
The scene can be seen in the bonus materials of the DVD/BR
The whole French Plantation sub plot in Apocalypse Now (put back in the Redux version).
The Goonies...a movie, where Thanos and Sam Gamgee are friends
...brothers
And brothers
Brothers
Brothers
It was amazing how easy it was to recognize Sean Astin. (I never saw The Goonies, Samwise was the first role I noticed him in.)
Just catching up with this and don't see it mentioned below, but you can't really count the Kyber crystal thing as a cut subplot - it never made it to a final shooting script in the first place so there was nothing ever filmed. The rest of these all involve subplots that were actually filmed and didn't make it to final release, but the Kyber crystal thing originally was just part of what Lucas was playing around with as he shaped what became Star Wars - and later made it into official canon.
Imma say it: things like this are why I don't think 2hrs should be the cutoff for movies. The movie should be as long as it takes to tell the story. I'd sit for 4 hours with a brief intermission gladly
So basically a play... which many of the public do not actually attend due to their extreme lengths...
@@cassidy6257 Most folks don't attend plays because of the price, not the time.
That's nice. Who would show it? Theaters don't like a movie over an hour and a half because they want to have time to get the patrons out, do any cleaning necessary, and start up the movie again and have as many showings per day as possible because that makes them more revenue. They'll put up with up to 2 hours, and beyond that studios begin having problems finding theaters to show their film. If it's up to 2.5 hours and a big studio says it's gonna be a hit they'll show it, but you get to 3 hours and few theaters will show it. The longest movie I've ever seen in the theater is The Right Stuff, which is 3 hours 13 minutes, they had to have an intermission so it took more theater time, and even in 1983 few theaters would show it. (I remember the intermission was long enough that we went next door and got pizza, and even then some people were complaining it was too long and didn't want to go back.) Also, a 4 hour movie won't fit on a bluray, which holds 3 hours of HD video. Studios *hate* to split a movie on multiple disks. Maybe *you* want to sit for a 4 hour movie, but most Americans want Short Attention Span Theater.
I didn't know about the gorilla subplot. I wonder why Steven Spielberg thought that was such a great idea?
It reminds me of how Doc Brown was going to have a pet chimpanzee in Back to the Future. I'm so glad both of these ideas didn't make it to the final cut!
Its spelt Kyber, not Kaiber if anyone wanted to know.
yea i was confused because i thought it was kyber
Wrong. Kaiburr. Originally in the book Splinter of the Mind's Eye by Alan Dean Foster.
@@carlhanson8845 Well you learn something new everyday.
@@noirangel6416 A bunch of the new content does spell it Kyber.
Thank you!
Should be "Kyber Crystals" and "Avoxes".
Thank you.
Nope
@@Deadvld Yep. Wookiepedia lists the canon spelling as “kyber”. However, Kaiburr was also used in the non-canon Legends stories but were different from kyber in how they affected lightsabers, however that spelling is currently not relevant.
the kyber crystals were the stuff used to make lightsabers in the star wars universe.
@@Deadvld Yes. Whatculture is consistently terrible with differentiating plurals from possessives.
The ice creatures attacking the rebel base in Empire Strikes Back. Leia mentions them, but everything else was cut.
I always assumed she was talking about the wampas
WAMPA!
The Rebels even use one, emprisonned in the base, to slow down the Empires assault.
That is a great deleted scene to watch! Seeing one of the Stormtroopers open a random door and get attacked and pulled in by one of the Wampa creatures. oh, and the trooper behind him just slams the door shut, shakes his head and motions to keep moving is hilarious!😂😂
The Abyss had a subplot removed that, when I saw it restored, made the whole movie ten times better. I don't remember now if it was the director or the editor, but someone involved in making the film said that cutting it out was the easiest way to get the movie down to a length they would use in theaters.
The Constantine subplot was actually pretty good, I've seen the deleted/refilmed clips
What about the senator in X-men? He didn't die, he became a puddle of ooze and left his cell.
and he died in the same movie
@@ranwolf1240 when did he die? Remember Magneto saying, "Are you sure you saw what you think you saw?"
@@jeffcox6539 He definitely died. They made that clear.
The senator squeezed himself out of his cell through the window bars, fell into the ocean and walked out onto a crowded beach. He then ends up with the x-men and dies basically in Storms arms. The scene where she holds his hands, after he asked not to be left alone. His whole body could not hold a shape anymore and dissolves into water, splashing all over the floor. Pretty sure he's dead.
The theatrical version of Marvel's "Daredevil" had removed a subplot with Coolio being defended in court by Matt Murdock (Daredevil).
the directors cut of Daredevil is VASTLY superior, and answers a lot of questions and dangling plot threads from the theatrical cut- it's like an entirely different movie
Robocop 2014 comes to mind at least Orion Pictures and MGM are Returning him to his Hard R roots Thank God
and what does that have to do with cut sub-plots?
It's funny how kyber crystals keep getting cut from Star Wars. There was a 4 episode arc in Clone Wars that never got finished about a giant crystal. An unfinished version was on the season 6 blu-ray, but most fans will never see it.
You can buy them at Disney World.
I can't help but feel that Bane was nothign more than a criminal with muscles. In the comics, he uses a chemical called venom to become stronger. With the Dark Knight movies aiming to be more realistic, using steroids called venom wouldn't be that hard.
Not to mention he was Mexican and they white washed him with a Brit
AND he's supposed to be just as smart as Batman, therefore being the first person to deduct Batman's identity!
Wait a minute, we had to watch that stalker being romanticized in Love Actually when we could have had the sweet adorable lesbian couple??? COME ON.
@Tara Croskery Michael Fassbender's character is creepy, not cute, like, at ALL.
@@transienthorror Michael Fassbender is not even in "Love actually". I strongly suspect you are thinking of Andrew "Walking Dead" Lincoln.
I'm glad at least we were spared a gay subplot. FOR ONCE.
Who wants to watch a sick lesbian slowly die on Christmas, you weirdo.
Nothing about Kingdom of Heaven? An entire hour of removed subplots?
The directors cut 4.5 out of 5 for me. Theatrical cut, 2 out of 5.
Ok, ok. But in Josh Tranks defense, the studio came up to him the day he started filming, cut his budget by a 1/3, and told him to cut the two biggest action sequences in the film.
That movie was still garbage, but his original script would be an interesting read.
Goonies took out the gorillas AND the octopus, which they still reference when they are on the beach talking to the cops/parents. 🥺
What about the whole Coolio subplot in the Daredevil movie? The whole subplot made the movie almost watchable
That Justice League joke not holding up so well throughout time LOL
The Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mikey was supposed to have a darker story plot. Where he doesn't cope with Splinter being kidnapped too well.
What about Starship Troopers, where the Leading Lady has a sub plot removed.
Actually Jaws is supposedly the reason behind the phrase block buster.
i predict the 2 different versions of the justice league will help bring about the interactive movies that are basically high budget visual novels, most having 2 alternate tones with an optional side plot
the goonies also had the octopus scene cut so that two animal scenes cut. evne if the octopus is mentioned even after it scene is cut
Has "popular movies" in the title... first film is fantastic 4 :/
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy managed to cobble together pretty much another whole film from the bits edited out called Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie.
Something about Mary had a subplot cut with Jeffrey Tambor’s character falling of the wagon because of Matt Dillon’s character.
Imagine being so wrong while trying to take a shot at Justice League
The 4th Hunger Games movie left out the part that Katniss ended up with multiple burn scars all over her body by the time she was put under house arrest at her district 12 home.
Wasn't there another dropped subplot in The Goonies about an octopus?
Before running from walkers, Rick Grimes must have ran from England. Using cue cards and providing a distraction to hit on your best friend’s wife is uber-creepy and makes you a borderline stalker. She’s playing along because she’s scared.
Um yeah Fantastic Four (2015) wasn't a popular movie at all. It is widely considered the worst superhero movie of the 2010s.
3 minutes ago?? Nice! Hi guys! Have a great day and Happy Holidays!
Hey, i don't mind that change to Star Wars! We all know that R2D2 is the true hero of the story anyway! :)
Lol that Prometheus sub plot would have actually made the movie make sense, without it it doesn't.
The Hunger Games movies did just what the capitol did by focusing on the romances instead of the serious plots!
Having read the book of Mockingjay, I thought the book focused on the romances far more than the movies did.
George Lucas: I want to make Flash Gordon.
Dino de Laurentiis: I'm not going to let you.
Lucas: In that case, I'll remake The Hidden Fortress into the best sci-fi movie ever.
De Laurentiis: Shit.
Lucas: NOW can I make Flash Gordon?
De Laurentiis: No, I want Mike Hodges to do it.
Mike Hodges: (makes 'movie')
De Laurentiis: Double shit.
What about the Goonies scene they cut where they fight a giant octopus/squid thing. Look it up
I was kinda hoping we were gonna get more backstory to Bane, I mean you don't want to present him EXACTLY like the Joker. (Joker's mystery fits) But I guess the film was long enough, so, eh.
Kaiburr and kyber are two different crystals for the commenters that are confused.
You could have listed any story point that was actually KEPT IN Fantastic Four 2015 and nobody would know.
Do a part 2 you left out so many things
In the version of Batman that I saw, Bane wore the mask because he was beaten helping Ra's child to escape
Babe? 😊
Yeah, idk why that movie is included as it literally did happen and was explained
Kaiber crystal??!!
I Did Know These 10 Secret Subplots Were Cut From Popular Movies
Was the Gorilla Subplot recycled for Jumanji?
I hope one day we get to see 9th Star Wars movie as the director envisioned it. 👽
You lead a kingdom, I serve empires.
I still think the Prometheus subplot is an interesting idea.
I thought it was lame, but to each its own.
Oooooh-Whee *MOOOOVIES!!!* :
The way Josh says "films" makes me think of Father Ted, and thus I smile.
I'd like to see Jesus portrayed as a villain in a movie. I mean, I've seen other religions' gods portrayed as villains in some movies, so although Christians might freak out, I don't think it's any more outlandish. And it might be kind of a fun idea to explore Jesus as, say, the devil's agent or something, trying to corrupt people through his showing of miracles or somesuch.
I'll never understand how there are people who think Prometheus isn't the best movie ever.
Disturbing Behavior cut a ton of scenes that would have made movie great. One huge subplot was the protagonist brother’s murder/suicide. That literally is the reason they moved.
If you make another one, please consider for the revisited list
I purchased Constantine on DVD that came with the screenplay version of the book and it includes his demon girlfriend.
For the movie Me before you i wonder if the director had emilia keep that history in mind for her character or not?! Thoughts anyone?
the dark knight is only considered better than the dark knight rises because of heath ledgers suicide
‘...or me with my hair down...”. Awesome. Made me laugh!
Tom Bombadil. LOTR
Tom Bombadil slows down the first book...its not even in the BBC audio book of the LOTR.
you mispelled Kyber
I love the Dark Night and Heath Ledger as the Joker, but I hated the Dark Knight Rises and Tom Hardy as Bane (laughable facemask)
it's KYBER crystals. Do research your scripts.
Half?
Joss whedon refilmed like 90% of the movie that's a little more than half
We don't talk about him now. He's a massive bully.
@@darrengriffin8609 I'll wait for both sides of the story before having a definite judgement
Jesus back to Prometheus!!!
Whatculture must have to hit some sort of apostrophe quota...
Too bad about that inappropriate apostrophe in the title card for #6
Oof, and #1 too. Someone needs to learn the right way to pluralize words.
Banes kinda small in that movie idk why you called him massive lol
Stfu
Please fix the spelling of Kyber crystals...
Would had loved that Jesus plot line not gonna lie
Y'all gotta do some better research on a few of these. Always good content though
its "Kyber", not kaiber. don't disrespect star wars
I would like to hear what was up with Galaxy Quest. I love the movie, but it seems to be cobbled together or subject to rewrites in the middle of production or something.
Why does Tony Shalhoub’s character carry around a paper bag?
He became a pot head?
Seems like it based on some of the dialogue.
Can't believe you just said "Love Actually was good actually"..it's a terrible movie filled with toxic relationships and bad concepts of what love is :(
“Popular movies” first one on the list is Fantastic 4/FantFourstic 👀
to be fair, it also says it's a secret and we didn't know it was cut, even though it's in the trailer, and that it's a sub-plot when it's actually just a scene.
Didnt george Lucas also borrow from Dune?
I would say that Avox's were still in the plot but it doesn't get too much attention. Basically masked servants set in the background and the cameraman's story explains as an avox, his tongue got removed.
Comic book Bane takes the mask off all the time. No medical reason for it, just an unrelated drug dependency.
He's also South American. Does making him into Tom Hardy count as whitewashing?
Kyber Crystals.
What did we expect from Prometheus? We know their biological superiority to humans from Alien. We learned their social structure from Aliens. We watched the convoluted sequels increasingly tarnish the reputation of two brilliant films. So what’s next? The return of a cloned Newt? (I would totally watch that in secret, but then probably be disappointed once again). Anyway, it may be flawed and it’s not a “true” prequel. It still brought interesting and unique back into the franchise. Making Jesus an Engineer may be a bit too far, but religious faith is still an important subplot in the film.
Kyber*
IT ISN'T CALLED A NEW HOPE!
(The hill I will die on...)
You don't have to make everything a 10 list, the fantastic 4 one was just lazy imo
Here I thought ASM 2 couldn't have gotten further away from the source material... Wow.
I’m not sure you understand the word subplot
Early gang where u at?
