I love how much Asahi has matured in these last 4 season. I remember in season 1 he was so traumatized by Date tech's blocking that he actually quit volleyball for 2 months. And now even though Date Tech's blocking has gotten ALOT better he's no longer afraid and is just focused on trying new things to get past the blockers. Furudate sensei is so good at writing slow, believable, character growth. People don't just change overnight, it takes time.

"Whoever stops adjusting won't be able to continue forward" - I remember reactions back from S1, where Coach was talking about how whoever makes the last adjustment wins, and then seeing this in S4 and admiring yet again just how accurate Haikyuu is with its sport~
The moment with Kinoshita ("I'll do a serve that Nishinoya can't get"): at first he said that he's just going to join Nishinoya, who was going to practice his overheads. But after hearing him talk, he felt motivated and changed his mind, deciding that he's not just here to help Nishinoya - he's here to practice his own jump float serve first and foremost, and he's going to make such a good one that Nishinoya won't be able to receive them.
Thanks to the editor for all the references from the original reaction, that was hilarious :"D

Getting lost in the crowd is another new aspect of Hinata's decoy skills. He says his best talent is not getting caught by blockers, so that can mean going too fast for them to catch up, or blending in with the other spikers to make the opponents stop and think. It's another tool in Karasuno's arsenal!

  • @pratitghosh5973

4:14 He didn't jam a finger, Aone jam-med (Read: rammed) into him hard during that block... That's why you see Aone apologising in that frame! That's just a littl bit of Haikyuu humour!
4:52 The ball touched the blocker (Koganegawa)'s finger, so it was indeed out of bounds, but it was a wipe/block-out. SO they got the point! (Edit: Editor-san noticed it and put it in the video lol! I comment too fast)

When Hinata jumps for the spike with a faster tempo, he is automatically eliminated from the list of attackers, so the opponent may have an easier time with defense. "Getting lost in the crowd" is him basically matching his tempo with his team (just as he did in the match point in the Shiratorizawa match) to give more information for the opponents to process.

12:58 What I believe that Grandpa Ukai means with the freak quick being wasted, is that at that point, Karasuno was actually using it as the backbone of their offense. They were hitting as many freak quicks as possible, even if they were being blocked, thus slowly witling away the moment of surprise and its effectiveness. Their opponents adapted to the Freak Quick with ease.
If they had done like they did just now, which is to let Hinata disappear in the crowd by letting the rest of the team attack, then the Freak Quick can suddenly emerge out of nowhere and steal a point.
Doing that would confuse the opposing defense. Are they going to set Hinata? Or is he going to fake? Are they setting the left Wing Spiker? The Right? By the time they make up their mind, Karasuno is already attacking.

    Hey coach!
Just a couple of things to point out
    - At the beginning, karasuno won because asahi spike's hit the blockers hand before going out.
    - Your interpretation of "getting lost in the crowd" is correct, usually Hinata would jump first before anyone else in the team, now he's slowing his tempo down to match the team and only uses the super quick when necessary, making it way more effective.
This change will be key in upcoming chapters, actually, a lot of things that happened in this chapter, foreshadow plays from future games.
Keep up the great work man, loving the reactions and the new setup

The tension between the three date upperclassmen and the karasuno upperclassmen was probably because of their decision to continue to play. The date characters aren't alumni they are also in their last semester just like daichi and the rest, however they decided to leave the team to focus on their studies while the karasuno upperclassmen did not.

I like how at 6:58, Tsukki showed more of his slightly ‘chaotic’ character. Usually (from how I see it), he would make snarky remarks either from the sideline, in a very cool/calm or posed manner. Moreover, I also see him as a reserved person. Which is why, when I first saw this scene, I giggled because I really didn’t expect a scene showing Tsukki to act/pose this way. It kinda shows how Tsukki’s becoming more comfortable and confident.

On Asahi's last spike, he successfully hit the shot that he was apologizing for to Kageyama in the previous episode. He held the spike position to the moment that the blockers started to fall and hit high hands off of Aone as he and the blockers were on their way down which sent it way out on the wipe. I'm not sure if you caught that, but if you watch the scene again, you'll see the blockers and Asahi falling for just a moment before he hits the spike. Also Kageyama wasn't encouraging Tanaka on his line shot. He was surprised because he though Tanaka went for a cross court and he successfully deceived even Kageyama. Great video. It's pretty interesting to see this scrimmage and know the backstory about how Dateko were the ones to make Asahi quit or almost quit back in season one, due to being completely shut out. Another detail that you might have missed is that they are actually playing 8 sets in this long scrimmage, as you can see in the end of the match, so they do have a lot of time for adjustments but also just a war of stamina.

5:45 Yeah, as your editor shows, Asahi did tool Kogane's block. But I can't blame you for missing it -- the anime sometimes does a poor job of making it obvious for us when someone's hand was touched and the ball lands out of bounds. About the "lost in the crowd" tactic, if you rewatch season 3- it is the same last adjustment that Hinata thought of which earned the game point for Karasuno against Shiratorizawa! Although at that time when it was used, it might have been a subconscious decision by Hinata, its great that they now know how to effectively use it, and the greatest decoy became even greater when its not used all the time!

Kageyama said that if the other team adjusts to him, then he will adjust to their adjustment, and whoever cant adjust to the other team will eventually lose or something along those lines. Apart from that, your reaction videos provide a ton of insight for actual games of volleyball. With Hinata developing as a Decoy, I think the growth here is that he's choosing to be a decoy on purpose. Before he would run up with full intentions of hitting the ball, but Kageyama would decide to use him as a decoy and set elsewhere. This episode, however, Hinata seemed to purposefully bait Koganegawa into blocking him to make way for the rest of the synchro attack to work

Because of those two circumstances he was able to get a clean wipe on them. Date Tech blockers noticed what Asahi was doing and was surprised at his hang time and his gutsiness for attempted such a point at the end of an exhausting scrimmage

Lost in the crowd means, using different tempos during the synchronized attack. Usually Hinata is at minus (freak) tempo for the synchro. This gives the D dense a somewhat easier time defending since they can defend hinata first thennnnnnn focus on the next 4 hitters. If Hinata gets lost in the crowd he’s going at least one tempo slower meaning the Dfense will have to try to defend 5 hitters all at once. Similar to the Bruce lee films where he fights 100 men but they tend to attack in succession vs all at once. 😉

I think this might have been overlooked slightly, but in the score keeping they keep track of the set they are on with the number between the scores. If you look closely, Date Tech’s blocking formation didn’t get broken until Set 8. Which would mean that in a regular, or even 5set game, their blocking formation would remain the same.

  • @ArgKnoxville86

"Get lost in the crowd" goes back to the last point in the Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa match, when Hinata slowed from a "minus tempo" to a "1st tempo" to be running with all the team.
If he goes for a minus, then Dateko figures he will not partake in the synchronized attack, so they can read karasuno's attack easier (e.g. it is either Hinata attacking or the rest).
If Hinata joins the synchronized attack he does his function better as a decoy for that type of attack.
It is fun and very intersting that Dateko is such a different team that Karasuno needs a custom strategy and logic just to fight them. Even though Dateko never even got close to beating Shiratorizawa or Seijoh (teams that were much harder for Karasuno) they are still such an original team that are a very real threat to Karasuno's style.

Also, the reason they reference the sky so much is that the word for moon is Tsuki and Hinata is a reference to a sunny place (I think. Not a japanese speaker in any way). So Tsukki and Hinata both have references to the sun and moon in their names, and that's why they are always portrayed both with sun and moon graphics, as well as being opposites

22:34 Koganegawa's name is written with the characters "yellow", "metal", "river" (黄金川). Kageyama is mistaken and calls him "Konekogawa". Koneko (子猫) means "kitten".
Also, Shoyo's little sister is named Natsu (夏) which means "Summer", fitting perfectly into their family name Hinata (日向) that means "Toward the sun".

Something to consider about Hinata when Kageyama was observing Hinata and noting that it looked like Hinata was "luring" kogane and you said that you felt Hinata has been "luring" opponents since he accepted his role as Decoy is that just like the show has been about watching Hinata go from being naturally athletic with a love of volleyball to learning how to play it properly to learning how to consciously analyzing how to play better.
His journey as "the best decoy" is like that too. It was basically natural because the freak combo was so show stopping and eye catching. And naturally captures attention, but then was foiled pretty quickly with the practice match with Nekoma and Hinata realized it can't just be the blind set, he has to hit & control the shot himself too. But as coach Ukai said, it still isn't being best utilized as noted in this episode because they were still using hinata & kageyama's minus tempo as a main attack which starts to lose its impact when seen too much making. To alternatively it's best used is as a sneak attack that draws attention suddenly because then it suddenly draws attention to Hinata who has been blending in with the group and allows him to strategize how to use all his skills to be the best decoy.
Hinata prior just by happenstance was naturally doing very good decoy work with his natural abilities before, but the Hinata now is putting his first steps into learning to strategize with his abilities to become an even better decoy

But* and it's a small "but", I would say reading a little closer to the subs because some words or key sentences get a little overlooked and then it seems you confuse yourself. The tension with the Date Tech third years is that, well, they've chosen to leave their club. Of course, they've lost the tournament and there's "no point" to them continuing, but i think if Karasuno was eliminated and had no more matches to look forward to, I think our third years will stay on until graduation.

At 28:55 when you are talking about ending up becoming more athletically accomplished than your more athletic older brother, it really reminds me of Shiratorizawas coach when he talks about the "hunger" that short players have in them in place of the height they are missing. Having to fight for everything makes you stronger, and in some cases that willpower is enough to win out over the natural athletic talent of others.

When Shoyo does his "ultimate lonely passing drills" with Natsu, I always tear up for two reasons, but I'll only state one of them here. It reminds me of my own relationship with my younger sister. Even though our age gap is only a year and 4 months apart (two years in school), I encouraged my sister to keep playing volleyball even though she ended up being better than I was. We'd work out together, and she became a great encouragement to me when I got cut my sophomore year of high school. That year, I learned how to score matches, and I scored her games. I got time to observe plays, and in down time, my sister would practice with me to keep working on skills. While I never got to play on the team again (my junior year, there were too many great players and my senior year, I was ineligible because of an error by my school), I was chosen to be the team manager because the coaches saw how hard I worked during that offseason when I was cut. Funnily enough, all of that improvement the year I was cut led me to play so well in our church league's competition, and we ended up winning against a heavily favored team (that included 3 JO players) to win that tournament.

i’m pretty sure 5:18 was a blockout cause the ball touched the side of kogane’s hands so it was still karasuno’s point. cuz it looked like it ricocheted when asahi spiked it, even paused it to see if it hit koganes hand and it looked like it did. correct me if im wrong tho im still not that well versed with the rules lol
EDIT: Nvm the editor clarified it AHAHAHAH got too ahead of myself there

I love Kageyama's line at 9:04 when he says "Whoever stops adjusting won't be able to continue forward." Like what coach has taught us, "The team that makes the last adjustment, wins". As a tennis player, this has been an incredibly important lesson that I've learned from playing the sport and has been reinforced from watching coach's videos.

Love this video, also coach in the previous episode Kageyama after coming back from the Japan youth camp compared Hinata to the little giant in the Youth Camp. Kageyama states that Hinata can jump higher. This meant before Hinata was just jumping with no technical focus and that if he jumped on the balls of his feet he can jump even higher than we have seen before. there was a glimpse shown of Hinata using the balls of his feet and getting to his max height however Daichi interpreted him and we just got a semi tease of the potential of Hinata to come in later episodes. This is a key take because he hasn't tried that technique since and when he does later on....oh boy is it amazing

The animation was on point, the ball was out.
As Asahi hit it, it bounced off Kogane, the blocker so it ended up winning them the match point, it's a little fast but if you look closely you can see it.

We're all like watching coach Donny improve as a youtuber while watching the characters in Haikyuu improve at the same time. The video quality is superb coach, I don't think 4K is necessary everytime since not everyone has a 4k monitor to really appreciate the quality, 1080p should be more than enough with good camera and render settings.
Also, it feels like the inability to produce 4k on new year ended up as a blessing in disguise since you get to do that exactly on this episode hahaha.

  • @itsukakasuga6732
    @itsukakasuga6732 2 года назад

The comment of kageyama about hinata trying to lure the blocker from Date is because in the beginning of the episode they talk about getting lose with the other attackers, after the freak quick fail because Aone blocked hinata start doing the sincronized attack with everyone but decide to change it mid way to make it look like he is doing the minus tempo again to confuse the middle, what kageyama was surprised is because hinata now is thinking more in the game that before, applying both tactics to make people focusing in him more, this time kageyama is wonderin if this action is intentional from hinata (changing his approach mid way) or he just his old self and try to always attack 100 %, this part show that hinata's thinking in the game is developing from past episodes, he is now starting to think more in tactis and plays not only trying to score

I think the reason Nishinoya does pushups after missing the serve receive isn't to train his body for overhead receives, but to fix his mental state.
I think he's trying to use it in a similar way to a serving routine to pump himself up, and perhaps also as a self punishment
