  • I am back in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for this video and once again I was not disappointed! This city is very developed with great infrastructure, nice locals and amazing food. I fell in love even deeper with durian on this trip considering Malaysia produces some of the best durian in the world! Plus, the prices are very affordable as well! I love this country! Enjoy!

    Hi Aaron. Nasi lemak is Malaysian national dish. Asam Laksa is also from Malaysia. The blue rice was actually came from a flower named Butterfly Pea flower.

      @@aaronaround there are few variant of laksa in Malaysia. Try a bit of it -
      1. Asam Laksa from Penang.
      2. Sarawak Laksa from Sarawak (Anthony Bourdain fave which he quoted Sarawak laksa the “breakfast of the Gods,” and the “weapons grade plutonium of breakfasts.”
      3. Curry Laksa from KL.
      4. Laksa Johor from Johor.
      5. Nyonya Laksa from Malacca.
      6. Laksa Utara from Kedah.
      7. Laksam from Kedah, Terengganu & Kelantan.
      8. Laksa Kelantan from Kelantan.

    Malaysians love all kinds of food in this world. They are not fanatical about their food alone. That's why any restaurant from abroad is always filled with Malaysians

    The blue colour comes from a native flower called Bunga Telang used as colouring

      @@aaronaround nope..u boil 3-4 pieces of them with water until the water turns blue. Then use the blue coloured water instead of plain water to cook rice.

      You can see the creeper plant climbing up fences. The small flowers are somewhat trumpet shaped and bluish purple in colour. I will go around picking the flowers when I need them

    The cost of Petrol for Ron 95 is RM2.05 per litre the cheapest in the world....

    Nasi Lemak originaly from Malaysia.Syrup Bandung only in Malaysia not from Bandung,Indonesia and Mee Jawa only in Malaysia causine.

    Nasi lemak is Malaysian!
    Nasi Uduk is Indonesian.
    Both rice has coconut milk in the rice but the condiments are different.

    Arron, as per the original recipes, that blue rise is called "Nasi Kerabu". The blue extract comes from the bluepea or butterfly pea flowers.
    For your info, I was a student of ASU, Pheonix in 1980s .... Phoenix is a super hot & dry city!

      The frozen ones are as good as the fresh ones. Durian freezes and thaws well.

    Tht shrimp paste is usually made frm d shrimp head and even to locals its an acquired taste..d blue rice colour should come from butterfly pea flower

      It is not common to have blue colour for nasi lemak...blue colored rice is actually meant for another type of rice called 'nasi kerabu' it is just a plain blue colored rice....nasi lemak on the other hand is rice cooked with coconut milk...I think the vendor should not use blue color for nasi lemak bcoz it is very confusing...to use green color is still acceptable...

    That’s shrimp paste. No need to pour all just bit by bit to suit your taste. 3.47 is Ron97 the one you pumped is Ron95 which is 2.05/L. Undoubtedly Malaysian durian is the best in the whole wide world

      @@aaronaround, the Unleaded RON 95 (Yellow nozzle) you pumped in is RM 2.05 per litre while the price you saw RM 3.47 per liter is for Unleaded RON 97 (Green nozzle). Malaysian fuel price is quite reasonable due to government subsidy all these years.

      Nasi lemak is definitely a Malaysian dish. The coconut rice version from Indonesia is nasi uduk.

      The Malay nasi lemak has many new versions nowadays. For instance, the Malaysian Chinese or Nyonya has given the nasi lemak a blue color, which is a color similar to the Malay dish, nasi kerabu. The Malaysian Indian also give nasi lemak another twist by cooking the coconut rice in a bamboo.

      There are many dishes that are similar between Malaysia and Indonesia, those are regional comfort food, for instance like rendang and satay which is also popular in Singapore and Brunei.

    Aaron Nasik lemak originally from Malaysia, Asam laksa, Asam pedas, Nasi kerabu the blue rice, its all from malaysia also Nasi kandar, nasik dagang, now indonesia also want to say that nasi kandar from there with name Nasi Iskandar, Also from Malaysia roti john, ice cream malaysia Burger bomb (burger Malaysia), nasi campur AKA nasik Malaya.

    Nasi Lemak is totaly Malaysian in Indonesia they don't call it that instead its called Nasi uduk and if you see the side dishes that come with that is completely different the only thing it has in common is the coconut milk rice. The blue rice is all natural from butterfly pea flower it has a distinct dark navy blue color that said there's other vendors using artificial color and it has a neon blue color obviously fake. Traditionally the nasi lemak is not colored but Nasi Kerabu from the state of Kelantan is colored with that flower. I also seen Nasi lemak colored with green Pandan. Pandan if used to color the food has only a hint of green they do often add artificial green food coloring to enhance it.

      Nasi uduk has daun salam as flavour but nasi lemak never use it... definitely the taste will be different too...and Malaysian sambal and Indonesian sambal differs a lot

    You can find Nasi Lemak ONLY in Malaysia and Singapore where the Malays are. They have it for breakfast traditionally. Pls don't compare Malaysia with Indo-nesia.

      There will always be some sensitivity about food. Normal and understandable. Indonesia and Msia has similarities and yet not the same.
      For Nasi Lemak, you would be hard pressed to find a good specimen in Spore.

    Asam laksa is actually malaysian chinese laksa. There are lot more version of laksa (malay one).
    Nasi lemak definitely a Malaysian dish.
    The blue rice (nasi kerabu) using butterfly pea flower to make it blue. It's an east coast cuisine.

      - laksa johor
      - laksa utara from the nothern states (almost like asam laksa but a bit different)
      - laksam (kelantan)
      - laksa terengganu (almost like laksa johor)
      - laksa sarawak
      Malaysian chinese make up 25% of total population.

    Malaysian durian top list. Black thorn, please visit Putra Jaya on your way back to the airport, and if you want to go farther out of KL, stay 2 or 3 days in Cameron Highlands, or explore north or south with a beautiful highway route, you simply need to get a touch card and use the highway.

    15:27 normally we go to the counter to pay ourselves.... luckily the attendant was kind enough to do it for you...he helped you to pump the fuel too....,👍

    There are so many good durian's variety in Malaysia such as Musang king, black thorn, udang merah, durian kampung, IOI, D24, D37 and many other D series. They have different color and taste. Musang king is the most famous, black thorn is the most expensive dan most delicious i guest. However i prefer IOI for it bitter sweet taste.

      owww this is what I love! Durian! You know I had the Dang Merah and it was phenomenal! I did not try the black thorn though I wish I would have had it! I didn't see it. I think maybe they said it was not in season.

      @@aaronaround Just because its expensive doesnt mean its better its just more sought after variety for the locals. The expensive ones tend to have a bit of a bitter flavor i personally like all of them maybe the sweeter version more . You could try Kampung (non specific variety) its cheaper and wild grown and has random flavor the good as well as the bad haha.

    Malaysia have nasi lemak, Indonesia have nasi uduk. Similar but different. The colour blue rice come from flower blue pea.

    16:35 actually Ron 95 is around RM2.05/L. The green one is Ron97 and it cost RM3.47/L. You used yellow which is Ron 95.

    The argument you think about is Rendang, which is a Minang people brought in Malaysia. Nasi lemak is only in Malaysia, and nasi uduk is not nasi lemak at all and tastes a lot different.

    My guess nasi lemak was brought by immigrant from part of sumatra,indonesia in padang where their influence spread across msia n no longer a traditional food in indonesia way back in 16th century.

      @@aaronaround No problem, for nasi lemak the one you had is kinda of a fusion try some authentic ones maybe from Nasi Lemak Wanjo in Kampung Baru or if you prefer a less spicy a bit sweater sambal you could try Village Park Restaurant in Petaling Jaya. Have fun enjoying Malaysia

    our customer service level is still very poor compared to other countries, americans have the best customer service especially in f&b, when tourist says that we're under rated well it seems like we've left behind in promoting ourself recently, i remember in the 80's and 90's we had the Malaysia Truly Asia, Cuti2 Malaysia program, nowadays seems like youtubers are doin excellent job in promoting our country compared to our tourism board

    Durian in Bali? Obviously Malaysian musang king much much much better.....some say (you said too ) it is incomparable to other durian from other countries

      Yes I would agree I feel like the durian I had in bali was almost dull.. or plain compared to the durian in Malaysia which tasted so creamy, Carmely, sweet, and very decadent... amazing quality, honestly

    Arizona is so big, and flat.
    KL may be slightly better than LA/Miami...but driving on the 'wrong' side of the road.
    I hv driven lots in all the above places mentioned.
    I reckon u r an adventurous and skilled driver.

    When you eat in Malaysia..and the restaurant give you some side sauces or condiments, you're not supposed to pour the entire thing in your food. They are meant as extra seasoning for you..and you should only put in according to taste. Or you could skip it entirely if you prefer the taste as served.

    Don't care about Indonesia. From the beginning, they claimed the Malay Peninsula and Borneo as theirs, as a result Seokarno, the First President of Indonesia sullenly left the United Nation and established his own union with China and Russia in the hope that the two Communist countries would help Indonesia conquer Malaysia, but Seokarno failed and lost the war with Malaysia. Since then Indonesian people believe in the doctrine that everything that belongs to Malaysia belongs to Indonesia. Imagine the largest Indonesian race, the Majapahit and Sundanese Javanese, did not succeed in keeping their mother tongue alive but adopted the Malay language that was taught in Dutch schools through Malacca Malay language. Malacca was an important trading center in the past and the Malay language was the official language of the Malacca kingdom in the 15th century. The Malay-Chinese and Latin - Malay dictionary was recorded in the 15th century and equated to the Malacca language. Because they feel ashamed, they plagiarize the English language by changing the ending sound and then claim Indonesian language. In the same way they claim Hindu religion and culture, claim the Indian Rupee currency, even the shape of the Petronas Twin Towers they claim originates from Brobudur. Their modus operadi is simple, copy, change a little bit and claim their own. Isn't that funny? More importantly, according to the latest report, Unesco has listed the Nasi Lemak dish as originating from Malaysia. Indonesia is trying to change history by imitating the cooking of Nasi Lemak by practicing Nasi Huduk but does not have a special sambal, anchovies, boiled eggs,
    nuts as mandatory dish of Nasi Lemak.
