Great reaction. The Athena kids thing gets explained in a few episodes. Also the movies are an adaptation of the books, so it heavily deviates from Rick Riordan's (the author) books. This series has Rick Riordan as both executive producer and writer. He was also there every week on set. Also Annabeth is stand-offish now, cause Yeah 12 yr olds and that was also kinda of how she is in general in the books. Keep going, the episodes don't disappoint for people who like the books.
