not that I was waiting for it, but I felt like it was overdue. My personal favorite song from Slipknot is Snuff and I don't know if he's reacted to it or not...but yes, Psychosocial is a banger for sure
This might have something to do with me being an Iraq War veteran, but I see it as an anti-war song. "I did my time and I want out." The character is referring that he did his required time, either in Iraq, or in the military as a whole and wants out. "Go drill your deserts, go fill your graves" Pretty self explanatory. "Then fill your mouth with all the money you will save." While on deployment, troops make a lot more than back in the states. It's still not a lot, but compared to state-side, it's a small fortune. "I'm done! It has begun, I'm not the only one." The character is at his breaking point, he's fed up with the system as a whole. However, his psyche has been corrupted by what he has seen and done. There are others just like him. The chorus of the song refers to the overall corruption and death of a generation as a result of this war. "Fake anti-fascist lie." The lie based off of the poor intelligence that caused us to invade in the first place. "I've tried to tell you, but your purple hearts are giving out." The part about the purple hearts seems to have more than one meaning. The purple heart is a medal that the U.S. military members receive for being wounded in combat. Purple heart could also mean a literal heart that is in poor health. "Can't stop the killing idea. If it's hunting season. Is this what you want?" Now the character is out of the combat zone, back state-side, but all he has is a messed up psyche. Once the "kill switch" has been turned on, it doesn't turned off. All he has is pent up stress, homicidal and suicidal tendencies with a society that does not care or even blames him as part of the problem. Hence the whole term "Psychosocial."
The history of this band alone is a story in itself. They are starting there new tour in just a few days time. Couldn't be happier. R.I.P Joey you'll always be #1
This quote pretty much summarizes the meaning of the song (at least what it means to me) "It's... about society and how the only thing that matters anymore is money and personal gain at the expense of whatever. Life, Children, God, doing what's right even when it's not popular none of it matters anymore. Look at history it won't lie to you; it'll all come down someday but this is life and we don't get to choose that day. Do right and if you don't know then look for it; its here..."

Corey Taylor is one of the best song writers of our generation. Everything he goes through in life, he creates songs with so much emotion. So many of his songs give me chills cause you can feel the energy in his voice 🔥

One of the things that always impressed me about Slipknot was the rhythm section. They have so much emphasis on percussion. Many songs have the element of a drum-line. And every percussionist they have had is not only amazing at it, but all clearly have great time-keeping skill and deep understandings of music theory. Not to mention they are just so creative with it. I mean, Shawn Crahan (Clown) always knows the right time to smack a *beer keg* with a baseball bat. Such a unique element to add to a rhythm section!
